Yucatecans have a 4000 year old culture ingrained in some local people. People live for family, they are adapting to having cars and tourists. People have a great nature. They watched seasons but were not in a hurry. Look at the me and you seats at the parks. People want to hang out and have a high sense of community. The financial system is making them lose the greatest human value they have. Now some have to be in a hurry, working two jobs etc. but they work hard to share what they made with the family. Keeping up with the Jones is not what they care about! Continue to value life and enjoy Mérida!

Great video! Love the concept of the family dinner. Nice to see you all and hearing from you. Like to add to a couple of your topics. Buy scented bag liners for bathroom garbage cans and don’t let the fill to close to the top 😅. The ones with the little flapper lid on top is best 👍. Bring your shopping bags with you when going to store. If walking, we bring fold up backpacks 🎒 People on the States are taught about personal space. Many other countries are not caught up in that and many hold hands from childhood to adulthood and don’t let go when walking down a street or continue walking side by side. “ the norm” keep up the great videos. Cheers 🥂

The rudeness that US citizens give to people who don't speak English is a testament to our arrogance and ignorance. Most of us have never been anywhere and we only speak English. When I visit Mexico the people are so patient with me. I really look forward to spending at least a year there to work on my Spanish!

Mexicans started to get bigger when junk food was introduced. You had to work in a factory to make money and started to have an awareness of finances. Some are affected by gentrification enjoy life and don’t think fox are less than you for not having what people in the USA have. Merida is growing rapidly but people used to not have cars not too long back. Enjoy what you have and be kind to the locals. Budget in the USA: income 1000k a week. Rent 300, car 100, car ins. 75, health ins. 125, food 200, gas and utilities 200. You have a long week at the end of your money. Retirement in Mexico. 750 wk. Rent 250, transportation 50, you are healthy if you eat well and aren’t required to have insurance so you can enjoy life and spend 300 to entertain yourself and have 150 left per week.

@belltowndaisy No. I’m still in the U.S. & had to abort my plan to move to the Gambia b/c their healthcare system (infrastructure & more) is deplorable. Although I knew that from my extensive research, I realized I’m not interested in compromising THAT much. Now, I’m considering a hybrid plan to establish a home in Merida for 6 months of the year and a home in a “to be determined” African country for six months. Hopefully, avoiding the worse weather in both countries.

I've moved three times in the U.S. and the next move is out the country. It takes about 2 years to get settle with moves. Every state I have lived in had different laws and times for things to be open. That is pretty normal. People who never moved far from their home state will have a hard time moving away aboard I could imagine. I honeslty feel like we got cheated in America by not learning other languages. I want to attempt to learn two other languages and get immersed in other cultures. Also for me the basics have been tampered with so much in the U.S. it is just not safe. I mean basic fresh/real food, basic healthcare, to me basics are just a minimal. I also feel the economy in America is based off of death, sickness, and violence it is hard to change the basics of a structure and so many people are so stressed they cant even enjoy daily life and just be relaxed. It is hard to see daily. Can be draining on you if your the only calm one in the room. So no matter how much money you have or not. You are playing russian roulette in America. It is so many countries with options to be safe etc.

Just leave .. they’ll show up. My wife showed up after a couple months 😂😂😂. Truth is you’re not gonna convince them. But go anyways if its your desire. You’ll find a way to make it work.

What will your wife and you do when your girls leave? Is this a place you see yourselves enjoying life a deux?

i want to know what kind of household insects you have to deal with, how bad is the racism? because I feel you kind of downplayed the racism especially when you were in Colombia

THANK YOU!!! i been wanting an unbiased opinion because honestly that is the number one question inthe back of many african americans travelling and living abroad...now what about the insects??!! lol@belltowndaisy

I agree with @belltowndaisy (i haven't felt out of place or uncomfortable due to race). If anything, it's more 'classism' (the haves and the have-nots)...Some people will assume we're Cuban or Dominican... Some will even assume we speak French, lol .... The biggest issue i deal with are ants (and that's if you leave food laying around the house or drop crumbs on the floor). Those are the only insects I have problems with. I've seen maybe 2 or 3 roaches in my house over the last 2 years and that's because they crawled in from the crack/gap underneath my front door. Location is key to keeping insects away. I anticipate i'll see more insects when we move into our new house in Conkal (more trees, grass, shrubs in them parts)
