The 2018 Maui Invitational Tournament witnessed College Basketball's top teams, No. 3 Gonzaga Bulldogs and No. 1 Duke Blue Devils, clash till the finish in Hawai'i. Duke's Big 3, Zion Williamson, RJ Barrett, and Cam Reddish's late surge was not enough to defeat the Zags led by Rui Hachimura, who finished with 20 points, 7 rebounds, and 5 assists. Maui's championship duel came down to the wire as Duke missed its last 7 shots in the final minute of regulation, as Coach K's squad suffers their first loss of the season.

RJ Barrett lost them the game, he made the same play 4 times and got blocked every single time while he iced Zion on the wing. The only touches Zion had in the last few minutes were easy buckets in the paint. At this point the only one who can stop Zion is RJ.

"We're the best team in the country and I'm the best player too. I have to guard him."' Everyone who's been aware of Rui, knew this was coming. The guy's a different calibre of player who's been lighting it up all season. Massively underrated and he's had a lack of exposure. Sky high potential imo.

Big_Nasty What about them? He was a 80% FT shooter last season, he's dropped to around 70% this season. Even elite NBA players have slumps. Zion is 62% from the FT line while RJ is 65% yet they're both slated as the top two draft picks. He has far more facets to his game that eclipse his 'struggles' this year from the FT line. He's been ballin' too, look what he did against Arizona, Idaho, Illinois etc

RJ Barret played with tunnel vision, forced to many shots, and almost single handedly lost the game. He needs to realize he is not the only great player on the team. I'm sure Coach K will make sure he learns to trust his teammates more (especially Zion).

Tre jones should of held the ball the last possession and made the decision to pass or shoot, since his mid range shot and floater was killing it, zion had a easy dunk at the end along with javin at the end or lay up, rj took the same shot and did same layup 3 or 4 times, got blocked over and over again same result, duke should of won that game, they had a minute maybe a little more to put up 2 or 3 or even 4 points to win or tie, it was 89-87 same score for atleast a min straight, duke had 4 other guys besides RJ to make a play, but rj still tried himself without learning, i do still believe duke could or would of won im overtime, if it went to overtime like it should or more likely and win with all the opportunities that was given to them, falling game by stupid mistakes at the end

Half agree with that line of thinking. If it was Coach K's call, I believe RJ was told to look for options like drawing the defense to himself and hitting one of his open teammates as the 2nd option as opposed to taking a contested shot with 2 & 3 guys collapsing on him.. He needs to have more trust in them. He has other great players around him and is not a one man show. I'll be very surprised, going forward, you'll see this happen again against great competition like Gonzaga.

Zion is gonna be a superstar. He has all the physical gifts and talents but no one is talking about his attitude and leadership. He had to put up with RJ Barrett wanting to be the man and being selfish but isn't flustered by it. Watch how he offered RJ a hand when he was on the floor at the end. And he was there shaking all Gonzaga players' hand while RJ is nowhere to be seen. This kid will be a superstar.

Why tf is rj not giving the ball to zion. Last 3 possesions he missed every shot and ball hogged. Give Zion the ball in the clutch from now on he can easily penatrate and get an open look or score himself. Rj is great but no idc what no one says im taking zion over barret easy. Tough loss

Some serious talent in this game. Duke w/ 3 lottery picks and Gonzaga with 2. That is just the beginning of it. I do agree that Duke ignored Zion and empathized RJ too much at the end of this game, but I also Few had a six sense, that early in the year, that Duke felt no one could stop RJ driving at the the rim. The problem is that GU had two terrific shot blockers in Clarke and Hachimura to protect the rim. They just walled off the lane at the end. Plus RJ just had total tunnel vision and wasn't looking at the Duke players around him.

For reals those last 5-6 possessions that duke had where Barrett just drove blindly to the hoop without even looking to pass only to get blocked every time. Brah pass the damn ball it’s that easy !! That was straight up Barrett trying to play Hero Ball !

Zion showed great character in a loss. Going right away to pick his teammate up, and showing genuine respect to the other team in the line. For me, he has now cemented the top spot in the draft.

Zion is a damn beast man .. if he gets around 6 - 11 with his quickness .. it is over for anybody that try to guard him .. he play the game with a lot of passion as well .. he gonna shine real hard !!
