What a great man. I saw him interviewed on Australian TV and he is a man of dignity. A man of class and everything you would want from a cricketer. A legend of a human being. And he chucked every ball he bowled. If he was Australian he would not have made it past third grade local cricket. We crucify chuckers in Australia, and Murali was a chucker. Every ball was illegal and only reverse racism allowed him to continue. Great man...but a chucker.

I think Martin Crowe asking spinner to open bowling or sending greatbatch to open the innings should be considered in the list. Coming to murli..i guess his no ball incident had more impact on cricket than his 800 wickets. Though I agree it's not an easy task to reach 800 test wickets. If someone breaks this record that would definitely change cricket.

He also took daring decision & mentioning its his last test when he had only 792 w, when the entire nation was like what & why?? Well his decision was eventually worth it. That's the beauty of Murali. A gutsy move by a kindhearted & fun loving man. Now that's the kind of stuff any future sportsmen should be made of. I think his record will be broken, but not for the reason they mentioned. The T20 format of the game has changed the way batsmen go about their task. They are far more impatient and aggressive towards compiling quick runs at the expense of increasing the risk of sacrificing their wicket. An entire generation of batsmen are about to come into the game that grew up watching T20 heroes swing for 6s instead of effective, but ultimately protective batsmen in Tests. Meanwhile, test bowlers have always been extremely wicket focused in their aggressiveness. It's going to be a perfect storm.

Anderson and broad have 3.5 wickets per match , they both need to play 225 test matches to break it . Rabada is 27 and has played since last 8 years (2years lost due to Covid ) he has 280 wickets in 60 matches . So if he playes 10 test matches per year , and if he retires at 40 . He got still 130 matches . And if he takes 4 wickets per match , he surely will , that will be 520 wickets . Two player who look like breaking Murali record at the moment is Rabada and Afridi from Pakistan , he is only 23. He has played only 25 test matches . Let’s see how fit they can stay !

5:22 Ashwin a Tamil surpassing Muralitharan also Tamil despite separate countries would still be like keeping it the family, although it seems a bit unlikely at the moment if he could even come close. I remember watching that Test & knew very well what was expected from that match. I wanted him to fail & was a bit disappointed in the moment he took the 800th Wicket. But still being a Bowling fan I was also excited to know someone took 800 Test Wickets & that I also got to watch it Live. Now I feel how unfortunate it could've been had he missed it, it would've been just like Bradman's.
@grayscarab5784
@grayscarab5784 3 жыл бұрын
Ashwin won't surpass Murali unless he becomes about 5 times better at bowling overseas. He is sitting at 5.2 wickets per match currently and that is due mainly to playing on Indian spinning pitches. To put this into perspective, in England Murali took 8 wickets per match at an average of 19.2. Ashwin took around 3.4 wickets per match at an average of around 36. He needs to improve this significantly if he wants the record.

No doubt He was one the greatest Spinners. I still admire Shane Warne as He was true Artist who could get those wickets in English conditions

In England, Murali took 8 wickets per match at an average of 19.2 Warne took 5.86 wickets per match at an average of 21.93 in England. Murali was FAR better in England than Warne as you can see. Heck, in Murali's first ever match in England he took 16 wickets. In 2006, he took 24 wickets in 3 Matches in England, despite Vaas and Malinga also taking decent amount of wickets in that series. He was just an unbelievable phenom. He also was far better than Warne in South Africa and West Indies. Murali was superior to Warne in any conditions.

Murali certainly changed cricket. They literally changed the laws of the game to allow him to chuck the ball. As for 800 wickets, not that hard when the majority of them are against minnow sides.

I wonder how these Australian umpires only see his action illegal, mind you its after ICC has cleared him. It was a planned attack to destroy the great mans carreer, which failed miserably. Murali is a honest man in contrast to notorious character of Warne.
