In this video, I'll show you what I think is the best way to strum the guitar. Guitar strumming technique can be a little subjective, so keep in mind that you may have to make a few adjustments to fit your personal style. Towards the end of the videos, I'll share two of my favorite daily rhythm exercises for guitar to add to your practice routine -- these will do a great job helping you improve your sense of timing and give you tighter rhythm. If you have any questions, please leave them in the comments below! Thanks for watching :)

Great lesson! Your way of holding the pick is pretty unique, most people I know hold it more between the pad of the thumb and the lateral side of the index. I was taught by my teacher that that was the "right" way of holding it, but I guess it doesn't matter.

Thanks for watching! There a many viable ways to hold the pick. The one you mentioned is pretty standard, but it doesn't allow you to hybrid pick as easily because of your hand position or have the same level of control when making micro adjustments to the pick as you play (which is especially important when strumming). When trying to alternate pick quickly, I tend to move the pick into a position much more like the one you're talking about.

This is one of the best strumming lessons I’ve ever seen! I’ve been looking for one for awhile now and all of them don’t answer the questions you did in this one, thank you so much!

Hi, Andrew, thank your for the lesson. I always had a problem with palm muting, because when I move my hand back to palm mute, my elbow and shoulers needs to move back and up, and it becomes uncomfortable to hold it like that for more and a minute or too. Do you know how to deal with this?

can you tell me how you have setup your strat. neck relief, action? thank you.
@andrewclarkeguitar
@andrewclarkeguitar 6 ай бұрын
I actually don't use any measuring tools when doing setups on my guitars. I do it 100% by feel. So I can't really give you any measurements to follow. However, thanks to the way Suhr guitars are made, I can essentially have the neck relief at less than 1mm. I keep my action set quite low with the exception of my low E string. I find that I hit it pretty hard, so I keep it raised a little bit to reduce rattling.
