(18 Aug 2018) 'ESSENTIALLY MARILYN: THE EXHIBIT,' INCLUDES PHOTOGRAPHIC PROOF OF HOW MONROE GOT HER STAGE NAME AND HER FAMOUS WHITE DRESS
Dresses that belonged to Marilyn Monroe along with an autographed photo thanking the executive who launched her Hollywood career will go on display before heading to auction.
Auction house Profiles in History said that the items will be exhibited in Beverly Hills starting Aug. 18 through Sept. 30th. An auction will follow in late October.
They include a photograph that Monroe signed to 20th Century Fox executive Ben Lyon that reads: "Dear Ben, You found me, named me and believed in me when no one else did. My thanks and love forever. Marilyn"
Profiles in History founder and owner Joseph Maddalena described this photograph 'priceless.'
"We sell lots of cool things but when I saw this photograph, I'm like it's priceless. I mean it really is the moment that like changed her entire life. So those kinds of things you rarely come across," he said.
Born Norma Jeane Mortenson, Monroe changed her name after coming to Hollywood. She used her mother's maiden name Monroe, while Lyon provided the "Marilyn."
The photo was taken during the filming of "The Seven Year Itch," the 1955 movie that provided history's lasting image of Monroe, standing over a subway grate and holding down her white dress.
A version of the dress, made by the original designer Bill Travilla for Monroe for tours and exhibits, is also among the items up for sale, along with her hand-annotated script for the film.
Also in the auction are Monroe's personal childhood photographs, 15 costumes she wore in films, including dresses from "Gentlemen Prefer Blondes" and "How to Marry a Millionaire."
The exhibit at The Paley Center for Media will also feature large format photographs of Monroe by fashion photographer Milton H. Greene, who was a friend of the actress.

The story about the Monroe name did not come from her father, but from her mother Gladys Pearl Monroe.

Ooooooooooohh !!!! ..... so THAT'S why i keep seeing MARILYN's face EVERYWHERE!!! LOL, i mean i knew who she was , i didn't always know just how big she was until "JUST RECENTLY " after watching a few docu's ,LIKE THIS ONE . But over the ... say like the last 12 to 15 yrs, ive been seeing her images on all types of products: SHIRTS, POSTERS and other stuff .... So this docu right here just opened a new door in my mind as to why i kept seeing her face over the years.

... minute 2:50, you see a with cream and a light blue dress. But the black and white photo under the blue dress actually corresponds to a session where Marilyn wore a red jump-suit. Just v-neck is the same..🤨

Its funny how some of the dresses are very ugly.on their own but on her they looked like something out of this world like a fabric unknown to this world that was too beautiful

Wasnt that so : Marilyn herself suggested all this new name for herself. Monroe was his mothers one name and so was Marilyn coming from her family? Why does this exhibition show her as if she wasnt enough to invent herself???? BTW these clothes doenst look anything on these modern plastic models compared to how they fit on Marilyn herself. Maybe d be vintage models to be used here? And why some people gave her JFK dress to Kardashians and her hairlock??? Why is she used like that again? Onto what purposes???
