great video ! one question, You say we need to update retropie with basic install option, I see this in retropie wiki: Basic Install: This is intended as a first install and is not required if using a pre-built image. eg When installing RetroPie on top of an existing OS. Update All Installed Packages: This will update the RetroPie-Setup script and all installed packages. Are your sure that Basic install is the right option? If we use basic install, Do we keep our existent emulator configurations ? thanks a lot :)

I've recently gotten hooked Mario Kart 64, which ran beautifully before. But now it's unplayable really. I did watch/follow your n64 enhancements video + now the fps show on the bottom left, which didn't before. If any of that info helps! And to make it all worse, I depart on a family trip tomorrow where I excited to showcase the new pi! So any prompt help will be much welcomed!!

Important: As of at least January 2021, the videos downloaded from arcadeitalia are at YUP244, incompatible with the new video codec implementation in Retropie, so no videos show. While this will likely be addressed, for now you can batch convert all videos to YUP420. I used a windows ffmpeg batch convert app with arguments '-c:v libx264 -pix_fmt yuv420p' and they converted fine without file bloat. Still, thanks @ETA Prime, very useful videos!

great walkthrough. my only gripe is when you switch to OMX player it brings the video to the front and puts the boxart and marquee BEHIND it. its nicer the other way. and it'd be pretty awesome if I could get my DOSBOX games to show up

After the first time you run this, for follow-up scraping change gamelist "overwrite" to "append" to avoid overwriting any manual scrapes you did for ones that Selph's Scraper couldn't find. Also change arcade source to ScreenScraper since the hardware accelerator does not work with videos in ArcadeItalia.

ETA PRIME, Retropie video capture, de suite tone of your voice (it's almost like if you say in your attitude: "relax...you can do it"). Everything went just fine. But, I noticed a huge lag in SSH communication afer Steven Selph's Scraper. That odd but it is true. I format everything several time to really understand when exactly the problem occur, and finally, It really looks like it is right afeter Steven Selph's Scraper installation. I there something to do to improve my SSH connection^ Symptom: - On a remote console via Putty in LAN----» A huge lag for key input. I time ans it takes like forever to see what I typed. Problem occur as root & pi user. - Transfering data upload/download from remote client in LAN from/to Raspeberrypi via fillezilla in SSH protocol. Log record dropped connections. I tried to use only one tred, but this was unsucceful. My config: - Raspberriepi 3 B+ connect to local wifi - Linux 4.14.30-v7+ armv7l GNU/Linux - retropie-4.4-rpi2_rpi3 - NesPi Plus Case whitout Shutdown safe module - Fan & heatsink - iwconfig wlan0 power off (custom.sevice at boot) - /etc/ssh/sshd_config -----------» UseDNS=no Wifi: - IEEE 802.11 - Mode:Managed - Frequency:2.462 GHz - Tx-Power=31 dBm - Link Quality=70/70 - Signal level=-35 dBm - Bit Rate=26 Mb/s - Retry short limit:7 - RTS thr:off - Fragment thr:off - Power Management:off - Link Quality=70/70 CPUs: - Temperature........: CPU: 40°C/104°F GPU: 40°C/104°F - Running Processes..: 115 SD: - Space available = 48G - Use 14% I realy don't know where those SSH lag beaviors come from. I'm getting audio but no video. That is, when scrolling through the games, i hear the sounds and audio effects playing in the background of each different game, but the video itself is not visible. Any ideas? I'm using the carbon theme, with vertical screen setup using screen_rotate=3.

How long are the videos usually? I'm guessing a 64gb SD won't be big enough if I have thousands of roms to scrape?

If your videos are not showing up under arcade then uncheck OMX Player and it will work.

How to ACTUALLY scrape one or multiple systems at a time: Once you get the "Select ROM Folder" window (lists your ROM folders...) you must press B while the folder is selected. This adds an "*" between the "[ ]". Ex. "[*]" Basically you need to select which folders you want to scrape by checking the "boxes" next to the folders. If you select no folders, no folders get scraped, which gives you the instant "ROM folders scraped". I found that by accident... Hope it’s helpful.

Is there any benefit to scraping in the "DOS" mode as oppose to in the GUI mode?

Stupid question.....so i should be sure that i have the folders ( Snap, Marquee, flyer, box art...etc ) created before i do this? Or will this create folders for the downloaded items to go in?

When I have the OMX Player off, the videos play perfect in the Mame and FBA sections but the videos lag in all the console sections. When I turn OMX Player on, the videos in the console sections play perfect but in the Mame and FBA sections they won't play at all? Have you experienced this? Is there a work around for this so all the videos work?

hello. i have seen this scraper at the bottom of the list of packages for some time now and just assumed it wasn't useful for me. this has lead me to use the integrated scraper for all of my games up to this point. i have quite a few games and have scraped art, description, and info for every single one of them and have what i would consider to be the "perfect" setup for me with everything as complete as i was able to make it. now that i have seen this, i'm quite interested in the video aspect of it. my question is, how will using this scraper affect all of the date i had scraped before? can i use this scraper to just scrape videos to integrate into all of the data that i have already scraped without any risk of deleting my previous work?

I've been using this video as a tutorial to get box arts, descriptions and such for the games, not the videos... anyway I have a question - all has been mostly going well for me, although some games won't be "scraped" by the time it's done, so I found out I can go in to each individual game and do everything manually; my question is (and I've only been seeing this with Sega CD games, so far...), why do two entries appear for some games? I mean, with Night Trap, which I know is a 2-disc game, there were 4 entries in the games list on retropie/emulationstation, and other that are single-disc have two entries. Does it have to do with there being two files: a BIN file AND a CUE file, each for one game/disc? I'm currently removing the games from the "segacd" rom folder, going to restart emulationstation, re-add them, restart again and see what happens. I don't mind having to do them manually, I just don't want multiple entries for one game in the games list (again, Night Trap is fine; when I was doing PSX games, with ones that were 2, 3 or 4 disc games, I knew that seeing "disc 2", "disc 3" and so on was normal in the games list (note: I was not scraping those games at the time - I currently need to buy a bigger micro SD card to fit all of those, in addition to everything else, from NES to Sega CD, so I currently have no PSX games on my retropie).

Help! I've done the scraping but it had also scrape my retropie menu, so all the item are abbreviated "audiosetup" (with no descriptions). What can I do to revert it back?

Small question, I followed this guide on my pi and my Atari &GB/GBC videos work but I had a problem that the FBA ones don't play with any theme. However if I copy the gamelist.xml and images folder to a windows version it works fine and the video preview play. Any ideas? I can see any issues in the gamelist.xml it looks correct with the correct filename case.

Excellent guide. Question, though. How come it scrapes my PlayStation section twice? It looks weird having 2 Crash Bash's on my screen. Is there a way to fix this?

Good video. Everything works as advertised... I do think it just really, really needs to be emphasized that if you have already altered metadata before scraping (ie: renamed roms, added a hidden tag, etc). That will ALL Be wiped out when it scrapes everything for the first time. If scraping would not alter the names or hidden flags, I'd be much happier.

I’m wondering, is there a screen saver option for retro pie where it will run videos examples of the games? So if I go through the process of downloading videos to the raspberry pi, as examples for all of my games, can they just run on random and then when you move the keyboard, it goes back into the main menu? You know how arcades used to run little demo videos and flip between examples of the games

@ETA PRIME - Using the OMX Player fixes the problem with laggy videos, but now some of the videos (probably the ones with higher resolution) won't play at all. Is there any fix for that, or I should convert all of these videos, so they can be playable while HW Acceleration is ON? Thank You in advance for the reply!

Thank you for posting this video. I was able to get the videos to play for my Sega master system, but on the mame and final burn Alpha emulators the preview video shows for about three seconds, but then does not run.
