I'm in Playa del Carmen - month 1 AirBnB. Walked around and found a place is which more suitable for almost 1/2 off for month 2. The internet here was intermittent so walked some more and found another place closer to the beach and better internet for month 3.

Great video! Appreciate you. I have spent months all over Mexico (mainly Airbnb) Oaxaca- Puerto Escondido, Mexico City-Polanco, Vera Cruz and all over the Yucatán peninsula. I am looking for long term (min 1 year) lease in either Mazatlan or Sayulita so this video is super informative. Gracias!! 🤗

This was so helpful! I am spending about 5 months in Mexico starting in Mexico City and realize how much the fees on Air B&B have gone up; plus, also property companies can charge such high fees. Thank you for sharing this ! It was VERY helpful!

That was a great tip about messaging a property and even if they don't have what you are looking for, they may try to connect you to someone that does. I always hear youtubers say that they were connected to someone who had a rental but they never say how they got connected.

Thanks for the video. Very Informative. Here in Xalapa, across from my gf theres 3 bedroom apartments with parking and a very nice park for $175 month. I asked what they needed and how long. It was monthly or yearly for the same rate. No references needed etc. My gf said you will never get the deposit back which was $175 also. My friend Sarah who is an expact here has a really nice 3-4 bedroom 2 bath house for maybe $300 month. There was no reference check needed either for her.

Matt Ferencevich Xalapa Veracruz is a beautiful city with varied climates. But it looks like Swiss climates. But the best thing is that the sea is only 45 minutes away in the city of Veracruz. I lived there for many years. It also has the best coffee in the world in Coatepec. Renting in Mexico is very easy and cheap. When you discover how to escape from the international tourist traps. Xalapa, As it is a university city, One person alone, You can find rent for "pupilos" with food included up to 100 dollars a month. Is incredible

I heard through other KZfaqrs that you have to make sure that you have an agreement with the landlord that they will pay for anything that needs to get fixed. Have you experienced anything in all of your rental history where you had to pay for things to get fixed out of your own pocket?

Nice channel! I'm thinking of doing four months down on the west coast next year (from British Columbia)- one month holiday, three working remotely. I'm settling on La Manzanilla, however do you recommend anywhere else? Someplace I can work but go for a swim on occasion, meet some nice folks and eat good food, but not a party town and nothing *too* touristy. I do love Puerto Vallarta but that is too big for what i'm looking for.

I am just wondering if you ever feel the need to ask for proof that the person who you are renting the property from is the actual owner of the property? Not so much maybe if you are dealing with a legitimate property manager or realtor, but more so with a privately rented place? I just don't want to hand over first and last months rent and maybe a deposit to someone who does not even own the property only to find the legal owners showing up one night and throwing me out of their home.

Hi, Great video! We are planning on permanently relocating to Mexico City and I was wondering what is the best way to find an unfurnished apartment in an old building. Most of the apartments I find are in newer buildings. Any tips would be helpful!
@laura-bronner
@laura-bronner 2 жыл бұрын
If you plan to look at older buildings in the city I highly recommend making sure that they have been checked for earthquake safety, especially in neighborhoods that sit in the old lake bed. The older buildings may be beautiful but the earthquakes pose a big threat to this style of building. As I mentioned In the video, the best way to find apartments longer term is to look around the neighborhoods you want to live and look for “for rent” signs. Alternatively you can get a realtor (there are tons in the Mexico City expat Facebook groups). They can be very helpful if you don’t have a fiador already. Hope that helps!

Can you speak about the bed quality at the places you've rented in Mexico? I've been traveling around Mexico for a little over a year. I've stayed at Airbnbs for periods of 1-3 weeks. With only two exceptions, the beds have been awful--too firm/hard, poor-quality mattresses. I can deal with that on a shorter-term stay, but eventually I want to spend 2-3 months in the same place and that won't work. When you shop for rentals via Facebook Marketplace, Craigslist and with property managers, how do you gauge bed quality?
@dennishassler605
@dennishassler605 Жыл бұрын
Yes, most beds seem a bit harder in Mexico, but that's never bothered me. I do provide some Airbnb's in Phx. Az. and always provide a high quality mattress. Some variances given the culture in other countries, but you've got to LOVE MEXICO.

I'm really curious, do Mexican landlords tend to hike up the rental price knowing you are a foreigner/expat who can't speak Spanish? Even with the last method you mentioned in the video by walking around and whatsapp/calling up those numbers? Or generally are they honest with one single price - regardless locals/expats ?

But where do you find a "fiador?" Why would they want to be a fiador? Are these costs refundable? How much will this cost for 5 months?

If you are only looking to rent short-term you will likely not need a fiador. You get a fiador just like you would if you needed a guarantor in your home country - you know someone. Sometimes property managers or realtors can help you find one, sometimes lawyers can be your fiador, but if you are only looking to rent for 5 months, it really wouldn't be worth the money. I have received a lot of emails and comments saying that in small towns around Mexico, hardly anyone asks for a fiador. It's not something to worry too much about until you've actually found a place you want to rent and spoken with the landlord.
