I like it, but my only concern is about privacy. There are many, many people who are very protective of their email addresses. I’m not one of those people but my husband is. He would be upset that his email address has been given to Etsy without his consent. Hopefully, Etsy has an answer for people’s concerns regarding privacy of their information.

Of the 50 million things we’ve asked for the fact that Etsy keeps putting out things that only makes things worse for the sellers baffles me. They say it to help but then it restricts us (ie the promos we can’t cancel)

its a dumb thing. Who cares about their little surprise, when an even bigger surprise awaits you when you get banned for no reason, or you find out all your sales are being held for 45 days. At that point their little idea is worthless. Who is seriously running the show there??

The advantage of something like this for the shop would be that the recipient is aware of the unexpected package and will be looking for it (fewer shop owner tasks related to shipment tracking, recipient questions, etc.)

The only reason for this is if the buyer orders too late for the gift to be shipped in time for the recipient to receive on the day of celebration or the event. In the past, I have advised my buyers to print out a pic of the item to give the recipient if the item won't be received in time. This is really the only reason I can see for this option. Otherwise, as you mentioned, you're ruining the surprise

Hi! Thank you guys for the videos with lots of helpful information. I have a question, would you have time to make a video for Etsy stores whose products are made to order - Handmade and priced in the 5 - 6 figure range? One issue that arises with such shops is that a lot of work goes into the design process, which is not compensated if the order doesn't go through, as Etsy does not allow the service to be charged. I wouldn't want to know what the gift is going to be. Quite honestly I think it's a waste of time. I do offer a card to someone if they've ordered late or there package has been delayed and they choose to offer a "gift is on the way" card to the recipient. I feel Etsy needs to resolve all of the current seller issues first.

I agree with Scott, seems to be gift spoiler… I’m not really understanding how this offers either buyers or sellers any benefits… + do we now start using hashtags for gift teasers.. to get our listings more traffic ?

I also agree that why to spoil the surprise?! Etsy should solve more important problems on Etsy… I am not sure why but with gift mode in action it seems that I started having less views. Out of curiosity I tried it as if I am looking for a gift for my husband, I wasn’t shown t-shirts or some other pod products…

How does Etsy have permission to send the recipient an email. That's spam unless they have given their email address to Etsy themselves. I think this is a horrible idea. Just trash in the email inbox that people are going to be annoyed with

hmm, good point. It would be the gift giver providing the e-mail address of the gift recipient. That could cause an interpersonal problem (the opposite of the intent of giving a gift). Especially if Etsy EVER uses the recipient's e-mail again to send them promos.

Yes, it can be good for those people who are buying gifts too late and they know they will not arrive on time- people ask me sometimes to send them a picture of the baby hat I make so that they can show it to parents-to-be because they know it will not arrive before the baby shower; I like it for those last minute purchases, otherwise- blah

What's happened to people? Why can't they wait for the surprise of the gift? This is just a gimmick for the dopamine addicted generation. Of all the things us sellers need, this wasn't even on the list. So what if something doesn't arrive on the exact date of a birthday - surely knowing a gift is coming should be enough to appreciate? Even worse, in combination with Etsy deciding they know best on your dispatch/postage times and displaying what THEY think based on your average rather than what YOU state in the listing this idea plain sucks.
