I have 1-3 day processing time, excluding weekends and holidays, and I’ve never had a customer complain that it took too long to receive an item. Some Etsy shops are a one-person show and we can’t always control life. People have emergencies. People get sick, etc… I remember when they were pushing shops to process on weekends and in a survey, asked why I won’t process on weekends. I simply wrote: Weekends are for family. Etsy’s obsession to compete with eBay and Amazon is what’s giving them all of the negative publicity lately. It’s sad that they’re abandoning the very unique feature that made them successful… handmade products. I hope goimagine becomes wildly successful! ❤

Thanks for the heads up there. I did NOT have a dashboard notice, but i checked my shipping settings just in case, and they had indeed turned on holiday processing for me. I heard somewhere long ago that it’s best to under promise and over deliver. Customers are happier that way than to over promise up front and then under deliver. That made so much sense to me. Do I go ahead and process on Saturdays and some holidays? Sure! But do I want customers to expect it and then be disappointed if I take longer? Nope. I have my settings set on purpose to give me wiggle room, and to hopefully make customers pleasantly surprised when they get their package faster than expected.

They say the shipping is moved to the next day if it's a holiday but I don't trust them to do that consistently.

Thanks for the info Kara. In the UK, we can only choose the processing days option. There is no facility for holidays and certainly not UK ones.

Thank you for the heads up! I checked my shipping settings and sure enough it was just as you said. Fixed now! 😅 I say i will process within 1-3 days so I have a little cushion but usually ship within 1 day.

I got the dashboard notice yesterday. I also got an email about it today. I unchecked the major holidays. I think it's a good thing, letting individual shops decide. Etsy just wants sales and they want happy customers so it's understandable where they may be going with this. I came down with bronchitis 3 weeks ago and it put me out of action for a while. I temporarily set a new processing time of 1-2 weeks so that I could continue to get sales but also give me enough time to catch up. I also had to push out some ship dates, but I got no negative responses and nobody cancelled their order. I set my processing time back to my normal 2-5 days yesterday, now that I'm back at full speed. While I had the longer processing time set, I got 13 orders. Basically, my shop didn't miss a beat. I know people want their stuff yesterday, but it's never been an issue for me.

Thing is that they're opting everyone in without letting everyone know about it. For me it's not a big deal but there are times when they start looking at your processing times and being punitive about it. Last holiday season was an example of that.

Funny when you said you haven’t “closed” the shop. I did literally close two shops in May that I decided and I didn’t have the time to maintain on top of my regular shop (they were tests) well since May I received emails from Etsy congratulating me on the number of “visits” to my now closed shops (confirmed by Etsy.) and some from offsite ads. 😂😂

So this explains the "Buyer expects this by (date) and the item is shipping that date.

It's the way they calculate processing plus shipping times, but even that isn't accurate.

Thanks for the info. I think I will go through my 800 items and apply different processing times for different items. While I don't call them "make to order", I still have to "assemble them" and some take 10 mins and others take an hour or more, so want to have more cushion for the ones that take longer.

Just got it today. How can they include Bank Holidays in the Shipping Times when the POST OFFICE IS CLOSED and I can only get a Tracking Number from the postal clerk at the counter? 😮

I can ship the same day and Etsy will tell me that it will be late when I print the shipping label. It doesn't always happen, but it happens a lot.

I remember back in the day when Etsy included holidays in processing time for everyone. It was awful for me because my post office began to lock up evenings, weekends, and holidays with no outside drop box available because of crime (SoCal). I was thrilled when they started EXCLUDING holidays because it was messing with my shipping on time. With more and more US post offices closing during “unattended” hours this is a feature that I’m sure NOBODY asked for.
