The Mayans are super fun to play, just started a campaign with them a couple months ago and it might have been the most fun I’ve had in a while.

The best way to play Mayans is to actually obtain the religion from Asian Tengri/Animist by forcing them to convert you trough peace deal . You can do some crazy things with that . But you can also play Any of the Nahuatl and force Maya upon yourself .

As for Hisn Kayfa/Ayyubids, if you culture swap to Turkish you can form Rum as them, and just keep the Ayyubid ideas. The custom Ayyubid text speaks of an eagle banner and the description still fits for Ayyubid Rum well.

You can avoid losing provinces if they are disconnected from your capital. You can still core through a single naval tile, and if you have like ten of your provinces in an exclave you won't lose any. You still lose cores, but you won't have to fight any wars or wait truces to get them, just wait until they're cored.

IMO initial colonist pick is too expensive. But the most important thing to know is that you can annex --> release the animist native councils to force them into monarchy status. You can develop institutions in them, and they will embrace it. Since they embrace it, you can reform off of them. The tech boost is smaller, but the much-reduced wait time more than compensates since you can reform immediately after passing 5th reform.

A top 10 "holy trinity" ideas would be cool. Holy trinity ideas are your first 3 ideas that give you 3 polices ,one in each category. For example Religious , quantity and trade or Innovative , offensive, and espionage. Balancing the power of the idea groups themselves and the sometimes powerful polices is fun

When I did League of Mayapans achievement, I only took 2 provinces from Chichimeca and Guamar and made them a one province vassal (I don't remember if I could force the religion or not). Then the number of rebels in these territories was 8K instead of 10K and I could kill them without much problem, and I had 2 vassals for the mission tree.

I suck at eu4, yet I love watching these videos.

It should be noted that if you continually conquer and re-conquer the same nations during your reforms, the others you ignore that border you will eventually get enough aggressive expansion from you to form a coalition, though the threshold seems to be higher than European nations. It's best to 'leapfrog' which nations you conquer with each reform, as any released nations won't have any AE against you.

Recently every EU4 game I start the AI builds an alliance deadlock on day1 around the player essentially blocking any expansion unless you pick a strong nation that can solo two or three smaller ones. The favor/trust mechanic also blocks you from calling allies into offensive wars, who also readily decline calls into defensive wars. Couple this with AI focusing all aggression on the player (like when Great Britain rivaled my unreformed Indian nation across the pond) and the game just becomes an unfair mess that just frustrates gamers who'd like to play something different from Ottomans, Russia or France...

Can you get sunset invasion achiement with the Maya or is it only with the Aztech?

i formed Maya but not as Haustec, its not impossible to beat the colonists before reformation, since they never have more than a handful of troops mostly from their colonies you can have a massive numerical advantage and its possible to win wars against them, but costly. In my play through they didn't accept peace for money or land they seemed to want unconditional surrender which seemed like a bad idea to me

One thing I found as Inca that I would assume is true for basically any nation in the new world is that most old world nations will refuse to ally you because of the distance between borders, while the colonizers themselves will relentlessly attack you because of the claims they get from their mission trees. It’s a good idea to either get some provinces close to someone like the ottomans, or force the colonizers to revoke their claims

Great guide overall, but I have a few points of disagreement. Instead of full annexing Chichimeca, I would take 2 provinces and vassalize the rest. An early game OPM vassal is WAY more valuable than a low dev 75% autonomy province, since a vassal gives you 2 force limits and normally maintain 2-4k of their own army. Not to mention the separate manpower pools and vassal income. As for conversion, there's a somewhat cheesy way to help with that: force religion on your war enemies and demand their capital. The capital is auto converted by force religion, and it applies to the capital during the war not the new capital after the war. I've used this on my Huastec run and probably converted a dozen provinces with 0 cost. I would also not pick colonist for the first reform, although this is mostly down to personal preference. That 2 ducats per month maintenance is really expensive, especially if you don't upgrade diplo tech for faster settling speed. Instead, the -20% coring cost is my top pick for first reform, since it makes future expansion cheaper. Alternatively the 10% combat ability makes war easier and I also rank it above the colonist.

I have been trying to form mayapan for a week now. Most of the time i either get caught in endless wars after the first reform or i get a metric ton of rebels which exhaust my manpower. One time i had a siege last almost three years( and my general had 2 siege) . Needless to say i was completely too late to pass all the reforms. Aside from cases of.bad luck( like three events that give a stab hit) the main problems i see are timing and manpower,since most of the provinces are crap. Opinions? Hints?

I know that religion reforms are DLC only, but where are the Primitive mechanics? They used to be part of the game, and they are gone from like 1.27. Wiki says nothing and I can't find any explanation from anyone.
