I went in expecting American teen drama staples like gorgeous 30-year-olds playing minors. And I knew I was in for a trip because, personally, my high school experience was largely shaped by my looking like an overgrown goblin.

The dialogue in this show kills me. No teenager-neither do most grownups-articulates "You think I'm interested in you, in what you think,, as if you were so interesting?" Those things occur in a dripping of little gestures, way more cruel, pervasive and devastating

In recent memory I've only been okay with adults in their twenties playing teenagers in Derry Girls & Bottoms. I'd attribute it to: 1) the lack of hypersexualization. 2)the fact that they act & dress like teens. 3) it's a comedy. I get that it's easier logistically to hire adults to work in an R rated project so I'll suspend my disbelief when they put effort into creating believable teenagers.

I love Derry Girls and have been meaning to watch Bottoms! I also heard the show Pen15 (which has adults playing middle school versions of themselves) is good and painful lol
