Hi Would this method have the chance of putting the cam out of line, and would be a problem locking the door

I have euro lock and I want to install a smart lock on top of it. I can't replace the lock because it's rented appartment and I'm not allowed to. The smart lock requires one key to be in on the inside, but then if smart lock battery dies, I seem to be unable to insert 2nd key from outside to open the door. It won't go in all the way. Stops about 1 or 2 mm short. Only if the inside key is perfectly vertical I can push it out that bit and open from outside. Is this a safety feature, or is there a way I can fix this, eg by filing off a little of the tip of the keys?

So a seasoned picker can still break into your house after a couple of minutes?

There is a quicker way into a lockout with this problem. Remove exterior escutcheon and at the top of the lock assembley drill two holes around 1/8 inch diameter. Insert a stiff wire with an "L" bent into it. Rotate several times to engauge the cam of the doors lock set. You will feel the door unlock and your in.
