Euro NCAP performs a series of crash and safety tests on car models:
- a frontal impact test, 50% of the width of the car is striking an oncoming deformable barrier, also travelling at 50 km/h
- a frontal impact test, the car impacts a rigid full width barrier
- a side impact test, a mobile deformable barrier impacts the driver's door
- a pole test, the tested car is propelled sideways into a rigid pole.
A series of pedestrian tests are conducted with different impactors, adult and child head form, lower and upper leg form and whiplash tests are performed on a sled as well as AEB pedestrian and cyclist tests.
Active safety is tested based on the car’s equipment: autonomous emergency braking car-to-car scenarios, occupant status monitoring (including seatbelt reminders), lane support and speed assistance technologies.

Bro the cars are same the difference is in india the car is tested at 64 kmph which got 2stars and euro cap tests at 50 kmph due to which there is 3 star in the results

May „only“ be 3 stars but im still impressed how much more rigid and overall safer these mini city cars have become these days. I remember my uncles old Mk1 Golf from decades back. That car would definatle be your grave if crashed like this.

I see a lot of people complaining about 3 star rating. Do you even know how easy it was to get 5 stars 10 years ago? A lot of cars that had 5 stars then would hardly get 3 today because of different standards.

For those who say Hyundai skimped the quality in India and have better build in EU should also note that it starts at €10,990 which is close to 10 lakh indian rupees whereas the top specced(priciest) version of indian spec i10 is 8.35L which is the asta diesel (i am not talking about the on-road prices here). For the price of euro spec i10, we are getting much better cars which has better safety ratings in India

If you check my last point which is "for the starting price of a EU i10, we have much better cars here" in which I was referring to cars like Tata Nexon, XUV 300 etc which have got better build than the EU i10. My first paragraph was about the comparison between EU i10 and IN i10 only

In Italy the i10 here tested starts from 14650 euro, +500 infotainment 8" display, + 0 / 350 / 650 euro depending on external colours.

I would say Hyundai actually cheaper out in this generation in safety and didn’t pay as much attention in safety/ care about safety ... this will still appeal to the older generation like pensioners.

As a tiago owner from last 4 and half years I want to say that Maruti and Hyundai agents made so much negative marketing for new Tata cars. All negative they count on new Tata cars against Maruti and Hyundai cars like nvh levels of tiago against nios is like no importance for more than 95% buyers, even most of the buyers can't notice but they highlight them as a very important point where as positives are massive in new models of Tata cars like safety,comfort,Handaling,road stability etc but they put them like average. This is the reality and magic of marketing other wise like if tiago from Hyundai or maruti it would have captured 80% of hatchback market till today. Same story in all segments.

It’s more to do with the test being so much stricter these days. Back in 2018 this would have been a 5 star car all day long. It’s now impossible for a city car to be a 5 star in 2021 as the amount of passive and active safety systems needed would price it out of the market.

Its depends on driving skills..present of mind,calm..five star not assured 100%safety method of measurement. Limit in speed..mobile use during driving..etc..so drive always on alert and limitation mode..no matter if u have truck so u call I'm safer person

In euro ncap they take top variant and crash test it on 50 km/h but in global ncap they take base variant and crash test it on 64 km/h. That's why this car scored 3 star in euro ncap and 2 star in global ncap.

Funny how the Aygo, Up, C1, 108 get 3 stars even though are smaller. But in actuality are safer because they lose points due to missing active safety equipment, although that's because are small econobox city cars the structure remains intact. The latest i10 is lacking in safety, my guess is Hyundai thought to bring the one sold in India or something to save costs.

Never compare stars from different testing methodologies. AEB is not the only thing that was added to the tests and this Hyundai if tested in 2014 would likely get 5 stars.

Strange this car has been on sale for years with thousands of happy owners including me. It's a city car ffs we go mostly shopping it what's the alternative drive about in a chelsea tractor. I'm wondering why which have slammed it.

It's a new model. Unfortunately it's not as good as the last generation. Still a pretty good car, but the old i10 was a massive improvement from the previous model and did much better in its crash tests.

@@mach1nefan Maybe it's all the ever changing and demanding specs the EU demand. I have the four speed auto that costs a packet to tax yet drives great. Now you get the five speed AMT that gjves better economy, but drives like a kangaroo according to the motoring press. Sometimes though the manufacturers keep doing stupid facelifts that spoil the model.

@@mach1nefan The crash test got harsher. Frontal offset impact used to be at 64km/h, now its at 50+50=100km/h.

The Indian model has DISGRACEFULLY been watered down by Hyundai so it's cheaper. This means that they cut down on safety by a lot. Global NCAP isn't as strict as it tests for developing countries - but other cheaper cars have still done better. This isn't just Hyundai either, a shocking amount of companies will literally *kill* their customers for some extra cash.

The sad to see that these companies provide good quality in other countries where even profit is less and poor quality in Indian cars . People should take a note of this and buy tata and Mahindra cars

With safety starts everything...there is enough scope for Hyundai to enhance the safety of their cars...should learn from TATA India...in the absence of safety, all is mere cosmetics, pomp and show...hollow show of glamour...regret having Hyundai...!!!???

Just because euro ncap choose top end variant for crash test and that too at 50 km/h. It won't get 2 star if they crash test of its base variant at 64 km/h just like global ncap. Tin can spotted 🤣🤣

This car is crashed at 50km/hr with 50km/hr dummy, = 100km/hr total speed and achieved good rating. But if this would be of Indian unit then it gets 2 stars at 64km/hr crash. 🇮🇳 So think abiut what these brands are making big fools of Indians. 🇮🇳 And hats off to BJP govt. 🙏 🇮🇳
