I would absolutely LOVE to have an 81/ 83 Imperial! My favorite car I have ever owned was an 82 Cordoba! It was solid, reliable, and oh so comfortable! I parted it out in 1996 when it had 189k on it. It was still reIiable as a daily driver, but was getting a bit quirky in it's ways, and as a newlywed, I felt I should get something newer for the wife to drive, but I loved that car! I saved the front passenger seat and made a desk chair out of it! I'm sitting on it right now, still enjoying the "rich Corinthian leather". :)

I remember when I was a kid one of the Chrysler dealers in our area had their main dealership sign with three brands on it when most only had two. There was Chrysler, Plymouth and Imerial on the traditional Chrysler dealship sign so Chrysler was definately still trying to market it as a seperate brand. It's the only one I remember seeing and remained up maybe 7 or 8 years after that model went out of production. I remember seeing several of the cars on the road but I don't recall seeing another Chrysler dealership sign with Imperial on it.

Hey Bob & Becky, this Imperial is so unique, I actually like the style of it. It's a shame that the fuel injection was such a disaster, it really had everything on it!!! Thanks for sharing another exciting video!!! 👍👍🙂
@cadillacguy1890
@cadillacguy1890 10 ай бұрын
The Imperial fuel injection system had several issues. The main problem was the state of filtration in 1981-83. Many gas stations still had old metal tanks in the ground that were deteriorating. This would bring lots of sediment into the gas tank. FI fuel pumps, pressure regulators and injectors don’t like foreign objects. Also, Chrysler electronics were not the most robust, and their location under hood didn’t help. Another problem was that the air cleaner has to be installed for the car to run. However, things like the timing cannot be set, and throttle sensors cannot be calibrated unless it’s removed. It was a nightmare for technicians to service, and some settings were difficult to get right. The fuel quality and filtration issues are not a factor today, so it should have better reliability than previously. Super nice Imperial!

The 1980s brings flashbacks of the Cordoba commercials talking about its "rich Corinthian leather". The Imperial was unique and brought that regal look with that tail end and that big grille in front but I believe they had their fuel injector issues (and had to recall them replace them all with carburetors).

I purchased new in 1981. The fuel injection was a nightmare. The dealership Chrysler Corporate had it converted over. $2K at Chrysler Corporate paid the bill. The car itself was just a classic look. Mine had a moon roof. And White/Red interior leather. Red carpet. 23K new in 1981. I traded the car for 1982 New Audi 5000. Never had a issue with that car. Today I drive Cadillac. Thank you

I believe Frank Sinatra paid Lee Iacocca full retail price in cash for two (2) new Imperials. One for himself and one for his wife. Frank wanted to feel he was doing his part to help save Chrysler Corporation. Sadly, as told in this video, Frank Sinatra had a bad experience with the Imperials he bought.

Look at the door lights. It’s like the engineers looked at the other cars that they were going to be competing with and said, they have good lighting on those doors. But we can do more. When one of the engineers asked, more, do you mean better. The first engineer said more. The second engineer was like, ok.

@@allenwayne2033 As a little kid in the 1970s I grew up surrounded by new Cadillacs and Lincolns. And my Aunt had a spectacular yellow 1967 New Yorker. The impression these cars made on me has lasted a lifetime and these are the cars that I still gravitate toward today. I’m not sure what my next car will be. Perhaps an old Fleetwood or Town Car. I get a bigger kick out of these old cars than any brand new car that I could buy today. Also high on my list is an early 1980s Riviera. Call me crazy, but I love all that fake plastic wood on the dash!
