A few years ago, my doctor was going to Sierra Leone, where she had been a medical missionary in the past, to start a women's clinic. When she came back, she told me what a fiasco it was. She was there for two weeks and had seven women come in to give birth. Because of ebola, all patients had to quarantine (isolate) for 72 hours. Because of FGM, all the women were unable to give birth naturally. All seven women and all seven babies died.

I like your comment. But I think I understand what the commenter was saying. And that's just, to me, that men are being hurt, too. And it does seem like in a lot of conversations these days men's issues are ignored. Men feel left behind and uncared for in our culture, because of course, our American culture is not Christian by an stretch. So I don't think there was intention here of creating controversy or contention. I think I'm mostly speaking as a mom of young men (ages 16 and 21) because I see how men (culturally American, whether white or not) are just not considered in any meaningful way. So if I see someone teach out, put there self out there and say, "Hey! What about men!" I don't have a problem with that and totally support it, you know? As long as they're not being rude or vulgar. Ayaan Hirsi Ali tried to escape from the forced marriage and fled to the Netherlands under the name of her grandmother ... or some other family member... I don't know exactly but her action is understandable considering the whole situation when she wanted to make sure nobody would find her to take her back to the forced marriage. So it was a most senseless media circus when Dutch parliament decided to kick her out due to that little lie which was made basically out of self defense. The true reason why they wanted her out of the country was due to her courageous standpoint that Islam was a danger to the western society which is based on gender equality. Which theory is totally true. Neoliberalism is a downward spiral to gender equality. And the tolerance of Neoliberalism towards Islam will slowly undermine gender equality in western society. Ayaan Hirsi Ali is better to live in the USA. The Netherlands was too small for her.

What caught up with her was her fake story about being a penniless refugee and the gall she had not only to claim fake refugee status from Somalia (she had actually come from Kenya where she was living a comfortable life as the daughter of a prominent politician) but her willingness to accept funds from the Dutch government to help her "resettle". Moreover, she gave some very public television interviews about herself as a member of the refugee community in Holland. Don't you think that's rather strange if she was really afraid of her husband and wanted to hide? In one of her books she describes how her marriage was annulled by a council of Somali elders in Holland, who basically agreed to annul the marriage because Ayan said her heart just wasn't in it. By her own account, the money she used to get to the Netherlands was money her husband gave her to join him in Canada. Also by her own account, she eventually met up with her ex-husband and offered to pay him back - but he declined. The problem with lying is that you have to have a really, really good memory, or not write too many books about your life over a long period of time. You're bound to slip up somewhere.

As for AHA, she’s a crowd pleaser (like dear old dad) and she’ll tell you what you want to hear.
