Join me as I revisit the solo journey of taking my Honda CG125 to 6 different European countries during the summer of 2017.
It's worth noting I had only owned the bike a few months at the point of the beginning of this trip and I bought it for just £450!
Stay to the end for a surprise!

Good on yer, fella for taking on a trip like this. I'm sure people will have asked "Why did you do it on a 125". Until these people give it a go themselves, they'll never know what they are missing. Want adrenaline? Look elsewhere. Want fun and a daft grin on your face? This is the way. I have a Sinnis Terrain 125 (as well as much larger capacity bikes) which I have taken to Wales for a couple of one-night-away trips and had a great time on little lanes with grass growing up the middle. Brilliant. Well done.

I used to do medium distance tour (250 kilometers a day) on my small Honda XL100 in the late 70s. I should have bought the Honda CG 125 then as I found out it was more comfortable and was a better street bike. @@ILikeMotorbikes Thanks mate! How did you get on sitting on a 125 seat all day? Did you get Numb Bum? Or a backache?
@ILikeMotorbikes
@ILikeMotorbikes 3 жыл бұрын
@@willswheels283 yeah the numb bum was a factor! You may notice I had a sheepskin on my seat which helped massively. It took the riding time from around 1 hr before a numb bum, up to around 2 hrs. Lots of shifting in the seat too like putting feet on the rear pegs or sitting more on the left or right of the saddle etc helps as it puts pressure on different parts and relieves others.

Hindsight is always 20 / 20... But realistically: I have road side assistance & tow me home insurance (back from MZ days). + How long is a clutch supposed to last? / How short is your trip? If you worry: Better replace before you take off and switch back to "fishy" parts, when you are back home. Because you are carrying too much junk around anyhow and can't bring everything.

I thought 125s had to be moped in Europe? When I did my cbt years ago they instructor told me I'd have to have a moped to go to France
@ILikeMotorbikes
@ILikeMotorbikes 3 жыл бұрын
I've never heard that before and can confirm it was no issue when I was there. I'm sure I saw other 125s too but can't recall if it was in France or elsewhere. Travelling by 125 is certainly not a problem if its a UK bike

Thanks for sharing your experience buddy. I am also from Somerset and own a 2005 CG125. Your video was first on the search results for 'touring on a 125'! I'd love to know a little more about your experience on the bike if you'd care to share? I know you had some clutch issues which is a shame. How would you say the bike faired apart form this? I think I could see a few mods such as USB charger, wind deflectors for your hands, fly screen etc. Thanks again!
@ILikeMotorbikes
@ILikeMotorbikes 2 жыл бұрын
Hey Dylan, awesome to know you're relatively local and have great taste in bikes 😉 awesome to know my video comes up first for that search! Yeah I had handguards, different bars, a screen from my old XJR1300, a USB charging socket and a sheepskin to aid in comfort on the saddle. The bike was brilliant really and the clutch issue was actually only the fact it needed adjusting! What else would you like to know? Happy to help on here or feel free to DM me on instagram - link should be in the description 👍

touring on a cg 125 can be done for a fraction of the cost in fuel than a bigger tourer and thats a important thing to realise,half the cost of coin on fuel compared to a larger tourer bike,and when your touring you do alot of miles and alot of fuel and thats alot of coin.
@ILikeMotorbikes

Absolutely! If you can afford to go for a week on a big bike.. You can go for 2-4 weeks on a CG125 for the same money!

Full license Jon. Sadly a CBT is only recognised in the UK so your son will be restricted to the UK. However there is plenty of good riding and places to be discovered and Scotland or Wales are great places as is the lake district or the south west

Good stuff! how is the fuel consumption like on the CG?
@ILikeMotorbikes
@ILikeMotorbikes 5 ай бұрын
Depends on a lot of things (speed, luggage, hills, wind) but generally worst case is 75mpg and around 100mpg can be achieved without much difficulty. If it was fuel injected it maybe it would be 120-150mpg like some more modern bikes

I have a rack on the back of this bike, it came with it so I don't know who made it I'm afraid. Then a top box on the rack (though other trips I've just used a waterproof dry bag), throwover panniers and a tank bag. Then you're good to go 👍
