I have never heard this song in my entire life until last month, when I've heard this by accident only three times... Now I'm listening this everyday... 1. On my 25th birthday, I wanted to visit my beloved Grandpa. He was suffering from cancer but minutes before I came to His house, He had lost consciousness and was taken to hospital. During waiting for any information about Him, this song started to play from speaker in hospital's waiting room. I've never heard this before, but its mellow sound gave me chills and weird, calming vibe with hope, that everything will be fine... 2. One week later we were sitting with Grandpa in hospital and we both knew, that he'll pass away in next few days. When I was leaving the hospital, I've started an engine in car, turned on the radio and this song filled the air. 3. Two days ago, right before His funeral, I've heard this song from a car parked in front of cementery's gate. There was nobody inside, only music. Thank you, Eurythmics, for creating such a masterpiece filled with emotions. R.I.P. Grandpa, wait for me, wherever you are now...

Hubert, probably your grandpa was a very good person. This was not a coincidence: It was causality. In Spanish we say "casualidad" (coincidence) and "causalidad" (causality). I absolutely love the way the Sopranos used this song. The whole episode centers around Tony making decisions to repair relationships, he continually does what he thnks should be all the right things. Wants to commit to his wife, looks after Irina, makes peace with Junior, makes a gift to Beansie, helps Janice. In the end he's just sitting there alone, feeling like complete shit. Because ultimately subconsciously he knows that all the things that are wrong with his life are rooted much deeper and can't be resolved by doing a couple of favors.

i think so to compare with "Imagine" of John Lennon the melody is so far better lennon lyrics are intellectual eurythmics lyrics are emotionnal the thing is "Imagine" came first (in time) so could say eurythmics song is a copy but "Imagine" never moved me instead of this beautiful song

Checkout The Man With The Golden Gun which was rejected because they got scared Alice Cooper's music would scare away audience members. They obviously never listened to the track. It drips with James Bond. From the Muscle of Love album. I think you'll be impressed.

В школьное время, в начале 2000-х эту песню иногда можно было услышать по российскому радио. Но мне не удавалось записать ее на кассету. Вижу перед глазами: тёмный холл перед кабинетом учебного заведения, куда мы отправлялись на информатику и экономику. А в голове звучит эта таинственная песня, которую очень хочется услышать. This song was on the radio, when I was in the hospital, while I was giving birth my first son. He is today almost 7 years old..and this song is a good reminder for me to see how time flies and how we have to live every second, every minute, every day...you never know what brings tomorrow...enjoy today....

It would be a great tribute to Annie and something very original to take a song created many years ago and use it for a new movie. What else than save the world that day makes Bond?Just daydreaming!! But it would be great if we could even intervene in some detail of the production of this great movie that I love and make to Annie a tribute.

rumour has it that this was written to be a bond song but the producers thought it too dark to use and decided not to use it, you can imagine if you listen closely to the words why that is. Personally I think this would have been an awesome intro to a bond movie.

I was in hospital with a little radio after heart operation in April 2000 and this beautiful song was running on the radio all the time. It helped me to relax an ti look forward to the future. So soothing and relaxing with beautiful lyrics!

I would like to share my interpretation about this beautiful, underrated song. For me it's about a very deep depression, about a person who feels so empty inside that he can't find pleasure in anything he does, even though he has "everything he needs" as the song says. I think "I saved the world today" means that this person made it for another day, is breathing, but still feels indifference towards the world and the people around him.

Totally agree with your depression analysis but my twist to "I saved the world today" is the person has died and from their point of view has saved the world today for others as nobody has to suffer from their negativity and unhappiness anymore .

You would have to be my age, 63, to recall the impact MTV had on America, "sweet dreams" heavy in rotation, the trans vibe, what I hear is a person very wealthy, perhaps faced with the guilt enormous, quick wealth brings some, wanting to "change the world", yet as they grow older, realizing to change the world, it can only occur by being kind and loving to each person you deal with in daily life, I guess my point is changing the world would begin one person at a time

Reading the various thoughts of everyone who commented, it occurred to me that the world must be saved daily. The people who do this are first responders, EMT’s, emergency room doctors and staff, military personnel, scientists, weather forecasters, and yes, musicians - they’re out there keeping it all together so that there’s a tomorrow. If we’re out there helping them then we are a part of the good thing that’s constantly on the edge of falling apart.

This beautiful song combines so many emotions at one time. I heard it first on the Sopranos, at the moment, I believe, the series reached its highest point. When the profoundly menacing Richie met his sudden end, I was flooded by feelings relief, even joy. The music really intensified the experience tremendously, and I loved it instantly. This is such a great example of how music and drama each have the ability to broaden and strengthen each other.

Funny thing how we connect events in our life with songs we listen at a particular time. This song came out when I was 9, it was always on the radio and is one of the songs of my innocent childhood. A few years later things would go downhill, family fell apart. This song is the last memory of the good.

Britton Thompson good stuff, I remember a teacher I had in school saying that we had only two or three years or something like that in which there were no wars on record. I don't see how that's possible maybe he meant for the U.S. there were no military actions but a year without a war let alone two or three seems impossible.

Many people don't get it that the message in the video is being sarcastic. "I saved the world today" is sarcastically being used to criticise our indifference to the plight of those suffering. "There's a million mouths to feed And I've got everything I need I'm breathing And there's a hurting thing inside But I've got everything to hide I'm grieving"
