The unspoken fact here is that 100's if not 1000's tata ev owners are stranded on roads everyday due to HV critical alert and tata continues to brush away the issues as charging pattern etc. and in almost all cases tata is swapping battery packs after inconveniencing customers for several months. No other ev in the Indian market has this problem except TATA. Instead of admitting the problem and fixing it, TATA continues to best around the bush and frustrate customers who have placed so much trust in tata and invested their hard earned money. I would recommend TATA to spend money on addressing is monster problem rather than spending money on marketing.

Those who dont know abt HV critical error. Its a sudden drop of SOC (battery %) and your Car goes to Limited Performance Mode(Limp Mode). Usually Limp mode should be activated only below 10%. But due to Tata's poor BMS and battery quality. This can come at any % of battery. And the battery % starts depleting rapidly. You can be stranded in the middle of the road if you have lower battery %. We have a community of Tata EV owners and 2/3 owners have faced this issue. While the main culprit of this issue is the BMS (battery management system) but Tata doesn't have a resolution to this issue. Only thing they do is replace the battery with a refurbished one (Not New Battery). Even after replacing the battery people are still facing same issue.

Used EV batteries still have ~80% capacity left which can easily be repurposed to use in grid energy storage or home power backup. The battery materials can be recycled to create new batteries but till now there aren't enough highly degraded batteries in the market so not many facilities r present for battery recycling. If the government doesn't come up with a strict policy then the scope of battery recycling would become completely dependent on economic viability. We still have some time... At least 5 more years to bring such regulation to guarantee setting up of ev battery repurposing/recycling facilities

To answer the question that he simply danced around,a new batter costs 7 lahk and that's not including fitting the batter or shipping depending on where you are. An entire engine and transmission will not cost you that much. Insurance costs are also high for evs because the potential of them getting damaged in a crash is much more higher therefore any crash would require a battery change for safety purposes so do with that information what you will,I'll stick to my petrol and diesels until a better solution comes along. I do not think evs are the future they are merely a stopgap until a better solution is found

While I agree with you on EVs not being the future, we can also expect it to take anywhere from 8 to 10 years for a suitable alternative to IC engines to be developed and become mainstream and cost effective. So in the meantime, for someone who does travel a lot like upwards of 1500km a month it does make sense to switch to an EV for the time being from a cost savings perspective rather than continue to use ICE vehicles until the alternative comes out.

But when you will go to sale the car there would be very less or no demand so you have you sale your car in this example nexon ev at just around 3-4 lakhs whereas an ice nexon would sale at min 6-7 lakh and max 10 lakhs. In my opinion, the battery replacement question is moot and should not weigh much while purchasing an EV. Do you make a purchasing decision for an ICE vehicle depending upon the cost of replacing the engine? Battery replacement is a thing that happens after around 8 years. Like the engine the performance/ efficiency drops gradually and you can always plan around that. Also the manufacturer provide a warranty for the same

@geekyranjit, big fan of yours !! Sales of EV has off late started to taper or fallen worldwide. Even Tata has revised their EV target in India from 50% to 30% in 2030. I think the biggest drawback of any EV in becoming mainstream is the turnaround time to road. If we compare to ICE cars where you can practically fill in the fuel and get back on road in max 10-15 mins, for EVs it might take hrs to do the same. This is taking into account best case scenario that we have enough infra for charging and there is no wait time. If infra is lacking then this turnaround time goes for a toss.

It isn’t just the car having critical issues but Tata’s service is the biggest weak link. Very unprofessional and I notice that some service centres use customer cars for training new staff (maybe other manufacturers do this too) but the way Tata treats customer vehicles during service is absolutely abysmal. Tata broke my vehicle’s charging cover and refused to repair or replace the part in question.

Depends on where you stay. Few states have subsidy on electric bills. Few residential areas have common chargers from solar grid. You can also install solar panel on your house and it is literally free of cost to run EV if you already have panel in your house. There is a huge subsidy from government on solar panels as well.

@srikard1564 Regenerative braking has nothing to do with idle power consumption. The higher efficiency is because there's no engine running and consuming petrol just to keep the engine running. In ice car you have the same hvac system but lower efficiency because it is belt driven not electrically driven compressor like in case of EV So ice car will spend fuel not only on maintaining idle rpm (1000rpm say) but also on running ac. EV does not send any power to motor when it is not moving. If motor is getting power that means EV is moving. There is only one energy drain ie hvac

Smartly, Tata avoided telling us battery replacement costs. Could not they simply give us the cost as of today? The reason they avoided this is because it has been found that the cost can be as high as 85% of original car cost (check other youtube videos for this). So once the battery warranty period is gone and your battery fails somehow, you have to scrap the car.

I can effectively use 30-100% is 20kw out is 30kw . Hence effective range is limited to 140-160 km. So many Nexon faces the same issue . Tata never bothers about it. I own a Tata Nexon EV max, 1 year old. My experience so far is pathetic. I have clocked 15000 kms so far, and every 1000-1200km the car needs to be taken to service centre for various body noise. It has multiple issue with body wrt wielding of metal parts (those were missing). 20+ times service visit including 3 times visit from Tata plant engineers. Still there is no solution. Apart from this car mount issue, HV critical error are more common issue. I will recommend EVs but not from Tata, other brands dont have BMS and HV critical issue (as prominent as Tata).

Tata's responses are so vague. You can always say present cost of battery or the present cost of a cell. All that information are kept confidential which seems so fishy. Regarding resale value, the answer given by Ranjit was vague. If going by the reports of several established auto journalists, resale value of these may plumment to such an extent that the savings achieved in fuel may be negated for anyone other than extremely heavy user. A lot of it is a bit of a question mark. Also, the long distance travelling is extremely stressfull. App may be there for showing chargers but most of those chargers would be in use when we reach there and it's not like they will vacate the charger in 5 or 10 mins, you'll be stuck there most of the time. A lot of chargers are also in a defective condition. Also, I have watched a lot of breakdown videos of several Tata EVs. All of them can't be fake. So, its not a smooth creamy experience as Ranjith is advertising. If you're doing a detailed video, kindly include the cons and disclaimers.

Essentially after the battery warranty is over, it's just your luck. Purely depends on the quality of battery used by Tata. It can change from batch to batch. If by chance, your battery loses steam after the warranty period is over, your car will be a brick. Too expensive to fix and nobody will buy it without fixing a new battery.

This is not peak GeekyRenjith quality video, considering he's focusing more on health and personal life its acceptable. But there's a lot of things that have been looked past and the clever answers from Tata's engineering team. 1. Repairability of battery packs. You can't repair it and you will have to replace it. Just like other components the battery packs can also have manufacturing defects that can creep in before you even reach the 1.5k to 2k cycle limit. 2. After 8 years/1.5 lakh kms you will be basically walking around with uncertainty. For a middle class shelling out 3 lakh plus on a car repair is unthinkable. 3. ICE cars have higher ex-showroom price, the only reason the margin is coming to a few lakh rupees is because of govt incentives, which we can never tell how long it will last and almost certainly not applicable during repairs. 4. Because of the rate of development and progress in battery technology, you can't tell if your car's battery technology will be present at that time or even a ready replacement will be available. If it's anything like other electronics parts like say PC parts, old and rare components cost more than the current gen technology. 5. All the above issues will be a common knowledge in 7-10 years and most consumers may never look at a EV car in second hand market.

Tata evs are a good begining for our country-but overall quality and reliability can not be compared with chinese evs. I feel chinese evs should be allowed entry in India so that Indian manufacturers tighten their belts and with time give us better products. Let us not repeat the mistake we did by protecting ambassador and Fiat for 40 years. Presently Tata evs have lot of problems including random hv critical error and battery replacement.
