In this footage, Eva Evdokimova is interviewed firstly about her dance history in ‘The Sleeping Beauty’ with Rudolph Nureyev, saying they have appeared in the ballet in London and Australia. She then speaks about her off-stage interests, such as the Medieval period and in particular literature, such as the Book of Kells’.
The interviewer then tries, unsuccessfully, to draw the ballerina out on the question of her partner’s difficult disposition!
In the second part of this video, we see Nureyev on stage rehearse one of the prince’s solos and then Evdokimova the Rose Adagio, this time in costume.
A kind KZfaq person comments that the date of the footage is 1977 and the rehearsal was at the Palais de Sport in Paris with London Festival Ballet.
Enjoy!

Is a pity some people that post here, forget what an artist Nureyev has been.At 1977 he was ill or tired but this can't erase the great dancer he was and the way he changed the male ballet dancer's place in dance.

not jet ill probabily he was infected in 81 or so but surely very tired ,he danced too much but was very very sloppy already in this period of the video ,not for this reason l forget the great dancer he was at his top.

Perhaps we could remember that this was a rehearsal, after a very busy day. We can also forgive any dancer for not knowing when to stop and change direction. I always felt he was a brilliant producer, who knew how to chose and direct designers too!

I saw Eva Evdokimova dance Louise/Sugar Plum Fairy in LFB's 'The Nutcracker' in London. She was so absolutely stunning that I have never forgotten her performance, although I wish I had seen her in 'Giselle'. It was nice to see her in offstage moments. I liked Patricia Ruanne too, who trained with Louise Browne in York.

Lovely to see Evdokimova lucky enough to se her dance twice in the two romantic roles of Giselle and La sylphide such a beautiful dancer and lovely actress so rare in dancing where so much accent is put on technique that a lot of dancers end up like automatons I was once told by one of my teachers True dancing comes from the heart only then can you truly develop the character you are playing

Nureyev was one "force" to be reckoned with,,,,,controversial personality, and private life...demanding presence (NOONE looked like him) ,,,devoted his life to Ballet,,(couragous , a bit narcissist) ,,,but one can't deny this man's accomplishments, achievements and contributions

Ce n'est pas exact. Rudolf ne s'est contenté de reprendre la version de Petipa et d'ajouter des éléments de la version du Kirov : il a complètement changé le sens du ballet comme il l'a fait pour d'autres.

Half the work was in coordinating the speed/tempo of the orchestra to sync with speed of the dance moves,,,,,especially with Tchaikovsky's scores...I don't care if one started dancing/practicing ballet from out of the womb.....even after years of doing this sort of "Art", seems utterly exhausting,and grueling...almost agonizing,,,,,even just watching it.......let alone dancing it...........much harder than any professional sport

Eva is wonderful as usual. Nureyev is already past his prime and sloppy. I've never like his choreography, usually giving himself too much solo time -- in fact, at the end of the video, I believe that music is designated for the Lilac Fairy solo. He's given himself a long solo with way too many steps beyond his technical ability. Even if he had performed the steps cleanly, I find the choreography heavy & tiresome.
@JohnRaymondHall
@JohnRaymondHall 7 жыл бұрын
i had a slight connection with Eva through her rehearsal pianist at Varna, Charles Hedges, whose main work was importing films into the UK. yes, Nureyev is pushing it technically and it's not nice to watch. and yes the chore is often clumsy and heavy-handed :)

Nureyev as jet-set personnage, coreographer and talent scout was unbeatable. As a dancer I never liked him. His dancing clashed disastrously with the number one basic principles of ballet: never show the effort.
