🎬 NEW VIDEO - EVE DOOR & WINDOW SENSOR NOW WITH THREAD - HomeKit Automation
Door and Window sensors are an excellent way to step up your automation game by providing triggers that you can use to control other scenes and automations within your smart home. The most exciting thing about Eve's latest Window and Door sensor is the addition of Thread support which was made available earlier this year via firmware update.
In this video, I’ll compare the thread compatible Window and Door sensor to my existing Bluetooth compatible Eve Window and Door sensor . I’ll also walk you through some practical everyday uses for these sensors and do a full setup and installation.
Thank you again to Eve for sending me this product to test out the new Thread update and provide a review. You will always get my honest feedback.

Awesome video! I'm currently using Vocolinc door sensors to turn on my lights when I get home after dark. It also sends me notifications if the door opens when I'm not home. I don't think the Vocolinc ones support thread but I haven't noticed any issues with speed. I'm impressed with the difference between thread and bluetooth on this video though. Thanks for making this!

My 3 main door/window sensors are used as following: 1. Laundry room door turns light on when open, light off when closed. 2. Bedroom door turns the lights in the downstairs hall and downstairs bathroom to 1% at night when opened 3. Front door sensor triggers alarm when everyone is gone. I also have one for the porch door that is only open when the AC is on. We don't use it for any automations, but it is a quick and easy way to see if we left our air conditioner plugged in when we leave the house

Nice review! Has anyone tried using this to automate their HVAC system when a window or door has been open end? Ie. stop your hvac from running when a door or window is opened and set to run again when closed? I am debating between these Eve sensors and the Ecobee. I love thread, however I have a good wifi network. I also have an ecobee thermostat. Anyone got any insight? I also want to use sensors for security.
@TheBradLloyd
@TheBradLloyd 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Danny, thank you for watching. I'm not sure if this is exactly what you are looking for, but you can create an automation "A sensor is detecting something" that you can setup to turn your ecobee off when a window is opened and on when the window is closed. Hope that helps.
@dannybroddy
@dannybroddy 3 жыл бұрын
@@TheBradLloyd Hi Brad, yes I think you are right, an automation based on the sensor opening or closing should work. I know on Eve’s website they specifically mention the eve door and window triggering this with their eve thermo. I think one could probably do something like that in the Eve app with the extended ability to customize automations with conditions, this should work with the Ecobee as well. Now I’m just torn on Ecobee or eve for sensors!!! Lol

@TheBradLloyd
@TheBradLloyd Жыл бұрын
Probably not the way you want it to, but you could activate something from your music library to play on your HomePod when the door opens or closes. Or maybe have a light turn on to notify you that way. Just a thought…

On your pantry door, you might try using "Convert to Shortcut" and then you can check for multiple conditions and set the light color accordingly when the door is closed. You could use another set of virtual plugs to determine when it is Christmas Time, Halloween, et cetera, by checking the condition of the plug to see if it is "on" or "off", and if all of those virtual plugs are turned off, then default to the turquoise color. Virtual Plug 1 could be for Christmas, Virtual Plug 2 could be for Halloween, Virtual Plug 3 could be for St. Patrick's Day, and so forth. During those events, turn the virtual plug on and after the event turn the plug off. It would be really cool if Apple HomeKit gave us a way to check for calendar events as a trigger, so I could automatically check for holidays. Do you know if any of the other Home control apps have this feature?
@TheBradLloyd
@TheBradLloyd 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Frederick. Good call on the "convert to shortcut". This is something I've been planning to do but haven't got to yet, but I think it will help clean up and maintain the automation. I also LOVE the idea of the virtual plug to set conditions for different holidays - I will totally do this. The "check for calendar" would be nice for many reasons but I haven't seen this as an option (I use Home, Home+ and Eve). Hopefully one day.
