Walking 2 miles might not seem like a lot, but when you're over 600 pounds and relying on that walk for each and every one of your meals, it's a different story. "Drastic" might be a word that comes to mind when you think of taking that trek to and from your local Walmart for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, but for Pasquale "Pat" Brocco, it was a major step in a life-changing journey.
What began as a childhood habit of fast-food-fueled overeating quickly became scary after Pat's doctor said the words "pre-diabetic," "high blood pressure," and "gastric bypass." He may have taken baby steps at first, but Pat eventually shed over 300 pounds in three years. This is his story.
Why did you decide to transform?
A little over three years ago, I was a bodyguard touring with a notable comedian. We placed a friendly bet on the NBA finals, and the loser had to do 50 push-ups. I lost. When I attempted to crank out my punishment, I couldn't even do one push-up. This happened in a room full of people, mostly ladies, and it was embarrassing. I was supposed to be protecting them, and I couldn't even do one push-up. To add insult to injury I was in front of a comedian, so you can just imagine how that went.
I stayed on tour for about six more months and then finally decided to go to a doctor. I couldn't weigh myself on home scales, so I had no idea what to expect. The doctor told me I was 605 pounds, prediabetic, morbidly obese, and had high blood pressure. He suggested I consider gastric bypass! It was one of the scariest, eye-opening moments of my life. I was 28 and making my death bed.
Did you head home and automatically change?
I emotionally ate for about a week. Then, one morning, I looked at my reflection when getting out the of shower. I was ashamed of what I saw. My stomach hung to my thighs, and my breasts were huge. I knew I couldn't live like this anymore. I needed to change, and that's exactly what I did.
I headed straight for the kitchen, emptied my cabinets and refrigerator, and threw all the junk food away. At 600 pounds, I couldn't do much in terms of exercise, so I decided to walk to get every meal I ate. I knew I'd get hungry 3-4 times a day, and I used that feeling to motivate me to my destination. When it was time to eat breakfast, lunch, or dinner, I'd walk a mile to Walmart and a mile back. I did that for my first 60 days.

I’ve been a big guy all my life. I had just turned 19 years old, 6 foot and 350 lbs. I was at home eating McDonald’s when I noticed this video in my recommended (even thought I had never watched fitness videos on KZfaq) seeing this beasts story set a fire in me I didn’t know was there. I took a hard look at myself, and realized not just what I was doing to my body, but my legacy, I wanted to be remembered as the BUFF guy not the big guy. Fed up with my obesity I went to the gym that night for the first time in my life. 1 year (and a lot of hard work) later and I’m proud to say I’ve finally hit my goal weight of 190 lbs! I’ve still got a long way to go to be my best self, but I welcome the challenge. Grateful for guys like Pat to be around showing us boys what it takes to be a real man.

And actually, this video has got me motivated myself, I'm currently 14 and weigh 150, and I'm 5 foot 10 inches, the funny thing is that I don't look 150, I look more like I'm 120 because I'm built pretty lean. But anyways I've wanted to build some muscle for a while but never really tried it, so I'm going to have to pump some iron. I'm pretty proud of you though for getting into shape like that, because it takes a lot of motivation, congratulations my friend!

Pat is incredibly impressive. Most of us, myself included, immediately react to the realization that we need to lose weight with some variation of "What program do I need to follow? Who can tell me what I need to do?". And that research definitely has its place... but this guy just went out and took two simple- but very difficult- steps to change his life, and then rolled from there. That's an inspiring show of mental fortitude and discipline.

More weight = more work = more results. I lost like 40 pounds walking 5-10miles to school for half a year. 6'1, 140pounds. Underweight is a whole different aspect and hard for me to keep muscle at times starving lmao. But 100lbs in 60 days is freaking insane. He put in the work, and then some.

The bible isint made to make sense to western minds. Romans 12:1-2 Therefore I urge you brothers in view of Gods mercy to offer your bodies as living sacrifices holy and pleading to him. This is your spiritual act of worship, that you do not conform any more tp the patterns of this world but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. God doesent care about you being flawless but he wants you find your true identy in him. When you start focusing on who he is and who you are in him you'll start to be transformed. And holy means to be set apart, not some impossible spiritual plane.

The truth about obesity should be revealed. People keep telling it is not healthy, bla bla bla... Facts need to be shared. Starting from bad circulation of blood in your legs, which lead to a number of other issues, to all the illness, where obese people are exponentially more vulnerable. Heart, Lunge, kidneys are overloaded. and so on. If anyone accepts that, it's their choice, but why would anyone else have to accept it?

However, with that said, I've lost 36 pounds and counting :) so even though it's not as much, I feel proud of myself. Cut soda completely. Drinking a TON more water and or zero sugar/calorie drinks And I'm consuming much less calories a day in general, averaging at about 1500-1700 a day. I love his humility. I been watching this daily. As I wake up at 3am to go gym before work. My life is such a mess right now. Gym is my solace. It's all about feeling good, and the looks come too. Self confidence is such a thing that men suffer from too. Keep striving people. 🖕🏾 to all the people who have made you feel worthless. 💪🏾💪🏾

I work security, I'll be turning 29 soon. Weigh 298lbs, I'm a father of 3 girls. My goal, is to loose 98lbs, and work on my upper body. It's an on going battle for a couple years now, but I'm not quitting.

@@prodigyam5078 I finally got my diet on point without fail. Exercising more. Definitely feel lighter, to even my daughters telling me my "belly is smaller" 😊👌 this is my year.

Inspiring story to watch about a young man who found his way through his journey to improve his life. I really enjoyed what this man had to say about how he got to where he is today.

Basically from a walking refrigerator to mover of refrigerators, by power lifting them. Nicely done. Glad you are still young enough to enjoy it. Good for you.

You fellas who started off over 500lb are a true motivator of no excuse if yall can do it that there is no excuse for someone a little less. I am the biggest procrastinator when it comes to that. Yall lost two hundred plus pounds and I'm too lazy to lose 40lb. Thank you I have a different outlook now
