Great timing thank you ... i had just received a new hammer in the post to replace my old broken one ... i was able to use the packing polystyrene to fix my old hammer, threw the new one in the bin as it was no longer needed ... awesome.

No one in their right mind would ever trust a repaired hammer handle! Just buy a new one, job done!

First, all you really need is a pole connector (a two ended threaded screw). You can also use a little epoxy to Strengthen the connection. And you have to be careful to align the opposing holes. But by the time the joint sets and is ready for use it is much simpler to put on a new handle. As most carpenters, blacksmiths, etc would do.

Thanks for posting this fix. However as mentioned by others I would prefer just obtaining a new handle at a local hardware store. Also this fix removes about 4-5 cm of hammering leverage. Finally breathing petrol and foam fumes does not seem very wise.

No glue will hold up to the forces of repeated hammer strikes.

@Inventor K, I respect your interest to post creative DIY repairs. My salute on your efforts. There is just a principle that certain items should not be repaired and re-used as they can lead to dangerous consequences for the users. Eg hammer handle, knife handle, saw handle, foot of chair etc. All these magic repairs using super glue and styrofoam or melting down plastic cable ties are great to repair broken plastic surface which pose no danger if the repair fails. All the best.

Amount you spent & time you spent you can buy the spare handle or very easy to make a fresh one.

Finally ! I broke my hammer 13 years ago , but just this last month I repaired it with this video ! Only cost me 10 hours of work and 10 bucks for equipment. Lucky I didn’t waste time and money on a handle 😂😂😂😂😂😂😢

Using this idea to fix a hammer is hugely impractical however the idea itself could but used for other repairs.

Плотники такой хуйней не занимаются. Изготовить новую рукоять минутное дело. Это будет самый надёжный и безопасный вариант!

I'm a carpenter. In situations like this, I buy a new handle.

It's a heck of a lot easier to replace the handle rather than go through all that trouble to repair the broken one.

I have several ball peen hammers of different sizes, but I don't use them for driving nails

i would rather replace the wooden handle than going through all the trouble

i think you could learn alot more from a carpenter .for instance using correct wood saw not an engineers saw for metal ,and the other thing wow why didnt you put the handle back in the vise when drilling .a little slip and youll have a hole in your hand...if this is on your video what else are you doing wrong

I think the fix is more so a teaching of how broken wood in general can be securely bonded than it is the salvaging of a broken hammer handle.

I am assuming tools and handles are expensive or hard to find where you live. If so, good idea. I've got fiberglass or hickory replacements right down my street for a couple dollars.

Cheaper and quicker to make a new handle. You have to be spot on to drill those holes they have to be as accurate as for dowels otherwise your handle will end up like a dog's hind leg!
