the last point is what seperates the well paid pro which gets recommended from the 'good' videographer - in the end, everyone at an event is there to have fun and celebrate, directing someone for a quick shot gives them a sense of achieving a sidequest and you get an amazing shot in return. if you approach positively, most of the time you get a positive response.

Excellent advice! I especially like the need to over-communicate with your client. Be pro-active. They will appreciate it.

Interesting! I will have my first opportunity to do event videography in a couple of weeks, I'm a beginner with photo and video, just beginning, and a friend of mine wants me to practice in an event of his. I'm also an introvert, not a fan of events in general, but a portfolio has to grow from somewhere haha. Thank you for your tips man

These are really great and rare tips! Topic wise it seems to me that filming on an event is not that different to shooting stills at an event. Besides that both have there own "difficulties" (of course). ... I mean that makes sense, right? Oh und Grüße Landsmann 😂✌🏼

I’m watching this right before going on a shoot. I already checked off a bunch of your tips. All of them are solid and I’d hire you in a min lol. What are your rates btw? I’ve been low balling it to gain a client base but I want to know what the standard rates are for most videographers

Hi Dennis, great tips and video. I'm branching into the world of event videography. I've done a few community music festivals over the summer and feel ready now to hit the professional event calendar. I'm on the hunt for a new camera. I'm torn between the Panasonic GH6 and the Sony Alpha IV. Sony for the autofocus, and I'm guessing with your experience you'd be able to offer some solid advice on this. Also great video on the zoom lens vs prime.

Thanks for the comment and praise God for the success so far! I would propbably go for the GH6 for the better frame rate options, the resolution and mainly the stabilization that might even make a gimbal unnecessary for most situations. But take it with a grain of salt because those decisions should always factor in personal preferences, unique things that are important to you, existing lenses, etc. Also, always keep in mind: You will be able to make great videos and horrible videos with both of those great cameras, so don't spend more time on that decision than on leveling up your skills as a filmmaker yourself. Hope it helps and God bless you! Dennis

@@talkingheadfilmschool Hi Dennis, great timing - I find myself browsing KZfaq looking at... You guessed it.. Camera Reviews. I've now ditched the idea of Sony and it's now between the GH6 OR FujiFilm X-HS2. I think I've only changed minds 27 times... Great advice dude, I've spent time working with mobile videography which taught me is to practice, practice, practice and when the time comes, the most important thing is to get the shot!
