This episode is pretty special and it took much care. Did you really think I would ignore battles just like that?! I couldn't wait to show you how I wanted Dark Road gameplay to be.
Visually wise, the gameplay was terrible. It was so frenetic that the viewer struggled to follow the action. I myself had troubles to follow the order of the attacks because, visually, battles have the same KHUX animations, but...their speed is doubled. Which is something I never tolerated and it was terrible to see.
This is why I made the battles look as closely as possible like in KHUX, having the same animation speed. Every single tap or sound effect for the attacks in battles have been manually added. It took much time but it was something I've been wanted to experiment since Dark Road was released and I must say, the gameplay flows much better like this.
And, of course, this allowed me to put my own custom music as well.
Enjoy!
NEW Kingdom Hearts Timeline playlist: • [NEW 2023] KINGDOM HEA...
- Explaining the Kingdom Hearts Timeline project -
As many of you already know, the Kingdom Hearts Timeline project started back in April 2018 as a way to prepare all of us for the release of Kingdom Hearts 3. What is the Timeline project? Basically, you'll see all of the story events as they chronologically happen. Which is seemingly easy to do, but...if you're familiar with Kingdom Hearts, then you do know the series is so full of flashbacks, callbacks and retcons, that it's extremely easy to lose track of them.
I always like to think of the Timeline as an experiment. I wasn’t sure if it could be a welcome one but, somehow, it was so well received that it exceeded my expectations.
The original Timeline was just a way to re-live all of the Kingdom Hearts titles leading to KH3, in a different, yet familiar way. I never had plans to go back to it, as I was fully aware of all the flashbacks and callbacks that could be added in the future titles. I don’t really like the idea of uploading new, fixed episodes every now and then-it would just confuse all of you (and, more than anyone, myself!)
Still, the requests and messages I received in the past few years made me reconsider my plans. More than anything, I did plan to complete the KHUX saga, as it was the only incomplete title when KH3 came out.
So here we are! Now that KHUX ended I have everything at my disposal for making the ultimate, complete chronological version of this title.
I can’t stress enough the purpose of this project-this doesn’t want to be the best or the perfect way of experiencing the Kingdom Hearts saga.
All of the titles should be played following their release dates. The Timeline is simply an alternate way of experiencing the story we already know and only players who already played the games should watch it. New players would be spoiled about some plot points, so be warned.
This project gives you a different perspective on specific events, and the adding of new musics, flashbacks, callbacks and secret reports, makes the whole experience even more unique and immersive.
I’ll leave some basic Q&A down here related to the future of the Timeline:
1)
Q: Will you be uploading all of the episodes from the scratch?
A: No. I’ll just reupload the episodes containing flashbacks/callbacks that we got to see after the release of KH3. For instance, the beginning of Birth by Sleep will be reuploaded since I’ll have to add the dialogue between Master Xehanort and Vanitas at the Land of Departure, occurring in Dark Road.
2)
Q: Will the old episodes be deleted?
A: No. All of the episodes will stay, but the new ones will have the text “NEW” in the thumbnail and in the video title. The new episodes will replace the old ones in the Timeline playlist in my channel.
3)
Q: Will you be making KH3 as well?
A: Yes, but my main goal was completing both KHUX and Dark Road. I do have some plans for KH3 but I’m considering of using the PC version of it, so I can disable the music through mods and do some…special stuff. If you are a KH3 modder/you know someone who could help me, please message me on Twitter!
4)
Q: So all of the 123 episodes list will be messed up?
A: No. KHUX will still finish on Episode 11 like I planned years ago. Dark Road will start on Episode 12. Only the beginning of Birth by Sleep might have a small change of numbers in the playlist.
5)
Q: Why did you put Missing-Link in the intro alongside the other titles?
A: Because...never say never. There's no way I can put the whole story of Missing-Link in the Timeline, not in the near future. That game's story might last some years, like it happened with KHUX. However, I did want to include it in the panels titles screen, so we finally have a complete timeline screen, for once.
If you're more curious or you have more questions, please ask!

So Xehanorts final test for Sora was putting him through the same situation Baldr faced, he killed Kiari and then forced Sora into darkness by stripping away his light. fortunately, Sora passed the test with Xehanort handing him the x-blade acknowledging him as the true child of Prophecy.

That IS an interesting way to look at the finale of base Kingdom Hearts 3, though who knows if that was truly Xehanort's intentions.
@Hirokey123
@Hirokey123 Жыл бұрын
I don’t think Xehanort was testing Sora, Xehanort never wanted to train an apprentice to carry on his mantle but I believe the intent of the final scene with Eraqus saying checkmate is Xehanort realizes he unintentionally did train Sora as his successor and handing over the X-blade was his acknowledgement/passing of the mantle. I don’t know if he ever realized Sora was the child, he was absolutely obsessed with getting Sora’s power but he seemed to continuously be disappointed even in DDD “that dull ordinary boy”. I think he had it in his head Sora could be the one, but moved away from that because there was nothing special about Sora. Even his final lines where he so bitterly demands to know who was meant to be the hero, it betrays a sense of hopelessness and desperation. Even at this moment he is desperately searching for that child and trying to be that child, and only Eraqus’s words make him finally snap out of it and accept it’s too late then but one of the others of the new/current generation could still find a way.

Xehanort and Eraqus are the two characters who suffered so much, Xehanort who was once thought to have been the Child of Destiny, was convinced to become a Seeker by the Master of Masters, and Eraqus traumatized by the deaths of his friends and seeing what the darkness is capable of, became convinced that Darkness must be destroyed and was so obsessed with the light that he was going to kill his own apprentice.
@jalenjohnson0339
@jalenjohnson0339 Жыл бұрын
Indeed like one comment said Xehanort and Eraqus are up there in being one of the most tragic characters in the series. With Eraqus due to seeing how dangerous and terrible Darkness could be and seeing his friends die caused him to be the serious strict person we see in birth by sleep. Him being too reliant on light and having that black and light viewpoint costed him in the end. As for Xehanort due to the master of masters manipulations it caused to him to rely too heavy on the darkness and he turned into the dark seeker we come to know in the entire series. If that didn’t happen he could have been the child of destiny due to his gift in connecting with people hearts
@rileyduncan3927

@@jalenjohnson0339 But we all know Sora is the true Child of Destiny, and he may have stopped Xehanort, but he has yet to fulfill his destiny as, well, the Child of Destiny. With Dark Road, I really do believe that Xehanort and Eraqus are among the most tragic characters in the series since the Book of Prophecies sealed these young innocent men we see here into being the broken and rigged absolutists we see in the Dark Seeker Saga

I still give the crown to Ventus. As much as these two were manipulated and set into these situations. Both still made their choices and gained control of their fates at some point. Ventus has not really had that luxury yet and has had two lifetimes of being manipulated and messed with by darkness and the Master of Masters.

@@RFDN0 I also would give the crown for the most tragic character to Ven; like you said, when compared to most of the other tragic characters in the series (and there are many), Ven is the only one who is never given a choice in his situation, aside from his choice to self-sacrifice--and even then, he's faced with terrible alternatives. He doesn't even get the choice of whether to be light or darkness, because Xehanort takes that from him too. In every situation he's a pawn in someone else's game, from the Master of Masters to Darkness to Xehanort himself, and he barely gets a break in between, even travelling through time only to be traumatized some more; every moment of peace he's ever known has been overshadowed by some secret or tragedy hanging over his head.
@kerdunne3422
@kerdunne3422 10 ай бұрын
Not to mention Ven is only a kid, he still hasn't had the chance to grow up because others saw him as a weapon rather than a person. He's what 11 in khux and the last time he sees all his friends is when he's about to face off against the formless darkness alone with Lauriam begging him not to go but already accepting his fate? And when he wakes up it's in the future alone, then a year goes by he's 12 and is nearly killed by Xehanort's malicious ambitions, sequestered away for 4 years, and manipulated again to go out in the world only to be forced into a fight to the death and enter an enchanted sleep for 11 years keeping him frozen in time. And he's lost nearly all his memories too. Ven is 16-17 in KHIII roughly the same age range as the other union members and has already been through so much and lost years of his life.

I hope there’s more lore in the future that explains the kind of people Sora, Xehanort, and Baldr are with their inherent ability to feel and connect to other people’s hearts
@Hirokey123
@Hirokey123 Жыл бұрын
I’m not sure there is lore needed? It’s like a scientific fact empathy is not learned it’s something you’re born with, and different people are born with different amounts. You can sort of grow your starting empathy but for the most part what you have is what you get. Sora, Xehanort, Baldr, potentially others in the series and more are just people born with a lot of empathy. But it’s due to their upbringing, their homes, their families that colors how they handle it. Baldr fears what he sees, Xehanort gets lost in seeing the worst, and Sora never loses sight of the good in people. That simple change in perspective is what separates them all.

@@dragonbornexpress5650 That was a potential point from my observation. But really the entire story of dark road is a warning. One must be careful when dealing with the darkness. This is especially true for those with the empathic gift in universe. Sora so far hasn't fallen despite the dark emotions he has seen or felt. That is already a better track record than the other two time wise. Conversly Sora hasn't been pushed past the breaking point yet like the two before were. We know Sora had a lot of baggage and issues to deal with. That was one of the running themes of KH3 Disney worlds. The power of waking was Sora's get out of jail free card from his collapse. Sora seems to still have a long journey ahead of him. Hopefully he will never be pushed past the point of what he can handle. Unlike the other two he does have a support network built around him. He has done his best to not be alone shouldering the weight of the world. That said we saw a glimpse of how bad Sora could get in Chain of Memories when isolated. He is now alone in Quadradum.
@dragonbornexpress5650
@dragonbornexpress5650 Жыл бұрын
@@RFDN0. I think this is actually worse than Castle Oblivion in Chain of Memories because at least Castle Oblivion still allowed Sora to use his powers; Quadratum doesn't even allow THAT, which means his mind now has no choice but to start processing what has happened over the past year or so. If things continue to worsen, Quadratum may actually break Sora, which is a very scary thought.

Simple way to go about this: Union Cross should be remade with a similar artstyle as Missing Link (minus the Victorian Europe aesthetic until the final scene, of course) while Dark Road would probably get adapted into something more like X Back Cover since the story of Dark Road is far more linear both in gameplay structure and storytelling compared to Union Cross, so turning Dark Road into a full 3D game would basically just turn it into the stereotypical PlayStation exclusive as a result. If a Union Cross remake never ends up on console, then at least put it on PC.

Next episode is probably going to be the path to Birth by Sleep; Many of the projection style cutscenes in Dark Road are set either MANY years before Birth by Sleep, take place not long before the events of Birth by Sleep, or are actually set during the first half of Birth by Sleep altogether, though at least one of the cutscenes is already in full 3D with voice acting as it was first revealed in Kingdom Hearts 3 Re-Mind. (The scene where Young Xehanort meets back up with the Master of Masters in the Keyblade Graveyard.)

And so it has begun. Still, I believed that the game between Xehanort and Eraqus where the latter wins happens before the travel for the Mark of Mastery, because in the cutscenes Xehanort still has his youngest hairstyle, while when he met the Master of Masters, his hair have changed :P

Is it possible that Odin and Yen Sid are the same person? If not, where is Yen Sid during Dark Road? How he's become a Master of Keyblade?

According to Yen Sid himself, he studied under Master Odin a long time ago, so he was probably just a student in a different classroom.

@@robertoiovino1322. Unfortunately, I cannot recall where the exact quote came from in the series, though I'm betting on Kingdom Hearts 3 for obvious reasons. Edit: Scratch that; It was apparently in Melody of Memory.

If Baldr's Darkness was expecting them to gather 7 lights... why kill hermod and urd? Mere foolishness to have just 7 and not 9 lights? Why did they fail supposedly? If Urd and Hermod's heart where released inside the dark corridor wouldn't that make a heartless and a nobody?

No for the last bit; Not how Heartless and Nobodies work. You might need to go back to Kingdom Hearts 2, or simply just look it up.

@@dragonbornexpress5650 That's the game I least remember... but wasn't darkness taking over a heart since KH1?
@dragonbornexpress5650
@dragonbornexpress5650 Жыл бұрын
@@BlaxeFrost-X. Not that simple; A Heartless is specifically created when a person has, well, lost their heart, usually when it's taken from them by force, (Or if you pull a KH1 Sora and outright give up your heart willingly) though their body usually remains intact. Meanwhile, if a strong willed person loses their heart, the body and soul they leave behind are referred to as a Nobody. If a person simply dies, their heart simply goes to the Final World while their body disappears, and the events of Dark Road imply that Hades can outright take hearts out of the Final World and bring them into the Underworld with a physical form for as long as he desires.

@@dragonbornexpress5650 So Urd's and Hermod's bodies should've remained? Wait, I don't get it... how is it any different than being attacked? I remember the first heartless creation shown in the series, a pureblood heartless killed a man by force, and a dark... "point" appeared fusing with the heart making a soldier heartless and then disappearing... so I thought you would need to die and have the pressence of darkness to abduct your heart...
@dragonbornexpress5650
@dragonbornexpress5650 Жыл бұрын
@@BlaxeFrost-X. No; Because of the fact they died, both Hermod and Urd simply ended up in the Final World because they still had their hearts as it wasn't taken from them, yet their bodies completely disappeared in a state of de facto death. Since their hearts weren't taken from them as that wasn't Darkness-Baldr's goal, neither of them ended up as Heartless or Nobodies.
