Did a Mac OS X port of the original EverQuest lead to the first MMO "Classic" server? In this episode, we look at the state of Mac gaming in 2003, and how a community developed around an increasingly out-of-date EverQuest server. Digressions include Virtual PC, Halo, and E3 2002.

Firstly good video. Secondly, I do think it wouldn't hurt in the future if MMOs allowed official private servers you could pay for as a service. Fragmented though it may be being able to get the exact tailored experience you want with the MMO as a platform would make the games evergreen not unlike what modding does for single-player experiences.

This is an interesting point! I had never thought about it as a time capsule, but the PS3 version is the one I’m most familiar with, and I was very surprised finally playing the PC version to see that people were playing levels other than 2Fort. To this day I still don’t really understand any of the new features.

Twinks in EQ were low level character with high priced gear. (Over powered and given from your higher characters/friends.)

I remember playing EQ2 and a person in my guild ran it on their Mac using a virtualized Windows OS. It worked fine for them.

Velios was the last classic experience. Could almost say Kunark since the old world was still so big then. Shadows of Luclin was ass IMO. I stopped playing before PoP.

Do you feel that Twitter is exactly as socially relevant as it was two years ago? My overall point is that Twitter doesn't have a singular replacement, so the community is being fragmented as people leave the service. Personally I feel that Twitter was once a place where I could reliably talk to most of my favourite people, but most of them have stopped using microblogging services entirely, and modern Twitter in particular feels flooded by porn bots and Crypto grifters, to the point that it's not a very functional website.

Craziest thing is how Mac was dedicated to making a gaming ecosystem on their platforms for a years but Microsoft just decided to do it pretty much out of nowhere, snatched apple's IP and smoked them out of the water lol
