Great demonstration but the Ook hook with the oval nail in plate was installed incorrectly. The hole in the plate should be moved up to where the anchor goes into the wall and the hook is centered in the oval plate. Then nailed in. This allows a lot of weight to be placed on the hanger that rests against the plate. It actually worked out well for me. I have a very heavy shadow box hanging on one and it is a solid hook. 🍻

Good video. The metal hollow wall anchors that you hammered in and they destroyed the back side, I agree that's terrible but I've had great results with them holding tremendous loads if a hole is drilled for them instead of hammering them in.

The Pop-Toggle comes with a small prod designed to engage the retention mechanism. After inserting the toggle you push the prod through the hole to 'pop' the wings out. THEN you can drive a screw. The instructions are printed right there on the package. It's amazing how many reviewers on KZfaq miss this.

Interesting vid...but opinion based on fastener installation ease & damage upon removal. The purpose of these drywall fasteners is to mount items on the wall w/o the use of the studs. You should consider a follow up vid testing their lateral (and vertical) strength which is what their intended purpose.
@CdCatastrophe
@CdCatastrophe 2 жыл бұрын
In your intro you had a flip toggle but didn’t show them. I use them all the time as an AV installer when a TV bracket can only hit one stud. They hold more weight than anything, but require a large hole 1/2”. You can also use them on block or steel studs.

I'm pretty sure you installed that first Ook device plate upside down. The plate should be flush against the drywall and works as a stabilizing bracket to the hook. If installed correctly, this one will definitely support more weight than any of the others, so you have to consider what you are trying to hang in determining which fastener is the best option. I wouldn't use it to hang a simple picture frame, but for a large decorative mirror or shadow box this would be a go to device.

You probably already know this but Makita came out with NEW lawn equipment. A mower, a blower, and a string trimmer. The battery lasts 2 days on the mower. 36volts but here's the catch: You can't use two 18v batteries, you power all 3 with the back pack battery. Watch me forget I was hooked up to the lawn mower when I walk away. Pricey inconvenience, I calls it.

I've used most of those before. Not a fan of any of those plastic-bit ones. The Oof with the two push pins are wonderful for me. My wife changes her mind about 80 times when hanging stuff on the wall. Those make my patch work almost too easy. That said, hellllooooo monkey hooks. I have a sculptor buddy who makes stuff with big-ass nails. It is heavy. I have a 3m claw holding that up. Before I found those I had to run a wire between two studs. 99/100 the misses choice to hang things is never on a stud. Most of those can handle little things, but if need something with strength, don't cheap out. It makes a difference.

@Sparkeycarp

I was not aware of the Wall claw. I think that is my new favorite because of strength. Maybe the Cobra. A long time ago we used the Molly anchors which were like the Everbuilt and they were great. The difference is that you have to pre-drill them in not hammer them. I think if you pre-drill the Everbuilt you would not blow out the paper at the back. Then they might be great. I hate the wing nut or butterfly bolt type. Although they are very strong because you spread the wight out on the largest surface area. You have to put whatever your mounting on the bolt before you insert the butterfly into the pre-drilled hole. Mostly I use the metal conical self drill in with a screw gun. Fastest and 50 lbs holding power. Here is a tip. Pre-run a drywall screw of at least 1-1/4" into the drywall to make sure you don't hit a stud or metal. That way you don't get a blowout.

That driller toggle looks pretty sweet. I carry a lot of toggle bolts and the white screw in anchors in my bins. I remember back in the day when toggle bolts sucked ballz and had a flat head slot only. You would always stab the he'll out of your finger with the driver bit trying to get the freaking thing to screw in the wall.

I have a 66" heavy mirror held up with the ook ones with all the nails. You didn't exactly install that one correctly. The slot in the plate goes right where the anchor comes out of the wall. The plate sorta sits behind the hook. The nails although they can be pulled out fairly easy they do actually work very well. I'm gonna give your Amazon ones a try for some smaller pictures. And the anchor that squeeze the center together like a cross actually work very well if a hole is drilled for them vs. pounding them through. That ook wire one is a unique one that looks good to try

Lol I thought those spot markers for the 3M claws were stupid too (not sure if you were being sarcastic or not lol) then I actually used it on the back of a painting that needed two hooks. Before you had to find out where to center it then recheck the measure. Instead you put the marker on the back of the paintings 2 sawtooth hangers take off the adhesive then place it where you want it on the wall. The marker stays on the wall you draw a little dot then line up the hook and press in. Then hang the picture. Done... so much freaking easier!!

Great review! One that you don't show, "Snap Toggles," is a safer alternative for molly bolts, because you can make the spreading back part be vertical which is much stronger than the random position of the spreading part of the mollybolt.
@TheSidneySmith
@TheSidneySmith 2 жыл бұрын
and the one he had on the "table" was the home depot version of Snap Toggles that I don't like. It only has one plastic run down through the wall to hold it in place and in use, they just end up losing the toggle into the wall. The snap toggles, with their dual plastic holders, rarely break off and fall into the wall requiring a second, third, fourth one to finally get you secured - especially when you are putting up and taking off an item a couple of times.
@davefink2326

I use the extra anchors for most things including hanging bathroom accessories. A #3 bit on the gun is the best way to install them. I've used toggle bolts for microwaves and smaller cabinets where only 1 stud is available to fasten to the wall. The larger toggle with the zip tie thing you didn't show using has ratings up to 150lbs. and is nice using 6 of those on grab bars in showers if blocking isn't available. All in all everything has a different purpose. I'm not a picture hanger so not sure on those smaller ones.

Really like your videos. However the ook drywall hanger with the metal plate you installed incorrectly and is extremely strong when installed correctly. I’ve used them many times when I had to hang giant painting or even some mirrors

Over the years I have used many different types of anchor systems. I like the Toggle Bolts, you can get big ones that will hold a lot of weight. But you have to drill a hole and you can't use them for every type of application. Those bright green anchors I have been using for years. They are easy and will hold 35 pounds. Most family pictures you mount won't exceed that. If I'm hanging something heavy, I make sure that I mount the item in a spot where I can use existing wall studs. Once again, if it's heavy, I have mounted a board/cleat across the wall screwed/lag bolted into the studding and used that board to screw hanger hardware into. Just don't use those little plastic anchors, they tend to give you, in a plastic baggie, with some items you buy that have to be hung. They don't hold up anything. Whether it be a wall clock, kitchen knife rack, furnace thermostat, hat/coat hooks, etc. Use at the very least those plastic screw in type anchors. They are okay for some things at least. Good video, demonstrating the available choices you can use to hang around with.

I like the claw but I buy the pack of 3 cause just one M3 cost $5 but the 3 pack cost $11. So you are saving a lil bit of money and they are reusable and made out of quality metal so it's going to last. Awesome video!

Nice. I've never seen those ones from Amazon, either. I'm thinking about getting some, since they're available right now.

soooo, I guess this is testing the hole they leave more than actual holding capacity, as it's actually never tested how much weight any of these can take.
