I was going to add BJ to the list. I think Ron Harper was the better defender than BJ, but omg BJ was not bad on D and he was SO efficient -- he was a problem both from 2 and 3 -- his 3 point shooting especially when everyone was gassed in the 93 season of the first 3-peat and he was also the main guy who played all 82 games. He doesn't get nearly enough credit for why suddenly it was lethal to not cover the other players on the floor. In fact he was far more dangerous than Pip and Grant out in the 3 point range back then. Paxson was great too and got a ton of cred because he has that one highlight shot that MJ fed him, but I think BJ had SO many in that last season of the 3peat when Paxson was out for a lot of it -- so Paxson gets a lot of the credit BJ doesn't get, even though BJ was there for nearly a quarter of the games that Pax missed. He also hit 50/40/90 in the playoffs... not bad for a nobody on the team, amirite? I mean I think that the Bulls should get TWO dynasty picks -- and I'm fine with Ron Harper being on the list for the 2nd 3-peat, but they won two separate strings of 3 games in that decade and they really were two different rosters. So I think for the first one it's BJ and the second it's Ron. And if you're going to go by who is the MOST underrated I think it's Ron personally... not because I'm comparing the two over who is better. But for real, I think sadly aside from old-heads and nerds that if you ask people who were on that roster they're more likely to remember Kukoc than Harper for sure.

agree, when they first made noise in the post season, it was when they got Bogut. i remember they hated him but for me, he was the best fit C. Defense, hustle, lob threat, no need to hvee the ball. Fit perfectly into the GSW heavy movement offense.

They’ve been looking for a replacement for bogut production for nearly a decade now.

Can't argue Shaw, but really Rick Fox is virtually forgotten by everyone but Lakers fans His wing defense wasn't elite, but he did his job well on that end of the floor, and maybe not as much or Iconic big shots as Fish or Horry, but Rick was a Extremely important key to that entire Shaq/Kobe/Phil era

Switching from Grant to Rodman for the second three-peat was definitely an even exchange, not an upgrade. Grant is criminally underrated.

@@jp3813 Well yeah of course. That was his absolute specialty. I would even say that Rodman was a better defender. Albeit not by much. But Grant was nowhere near as close to a one demential player as Rodman was. Grant could get you 15 on 55% shooting whenever MJ and Pippen (or Shaq and Penny) needed a third scorer. He was a good 3 inches taller (that matters). He never got technical’s. He never got ejected. He never kicked cameramen. He never needed to randomly go to Vegas in the middle of the season. He never had to be benched when he was healthy because his coach couldn’t trust him not to do something that would get him suspended. He never engaged in the type of behavior that made his coach and teammates fearful of what he might do next. I guarantee you you that almost every GM from the 80s and 90s would, if given the chance, draft Grant over Rodman if they knew what their futures would be.

@@joemamma137 Rodman was definitely unpredictable, but his defense alone was multidimensional. He could effectively guard both Magic & Shaq. Plus, his mind games are an underrated asset.

@@jp3813 Oh my God yes! The way he guarded Shaq was insane. None of his negatives were physical, they were all in between his ears. He was the T.O and Randy Moss of the NBA. But his mental problems were absolutely not insignificant. One of the reasons why the Bulls acquired him so easily, was because no one else really wanted him. Think about that. Both Shaq and David Robinson called him the worst teammate they ever had. And they weren’t wrong. The fact that he contributed nothing on offense was irrelevant compared to what he gave you with defense and rebounding. His successful 3 year run with the Bulls has really caused his overall career to be overrated in my opinion. He was a straight up locker room cancer. That’s something that isn’t reflected in his numbers. I’m old enough that I actually saw his career. The average Bulls fan was not overjoyed when they signed him. It was more like “Oh crap, I hope this doesn’t backfire”. And to Rodman’s credit, it didn’t. But as to my original point. He was not an upgrade from Horace Grant. It was really Toni Kukoč and Steve Kerr that made the 2nd threepeat Bulls better than the 1st.

Who would you replace Bowen with though? There literally wasn't anyone else outside the big 3 that was a part of 3 titles. Can't say Kawhi, can't say Robinson, etc.

There doesn't HAVE TO be a most underrated player for every dynasty. Sometimes guys are appropriately rated and people bring up names just to do it. This is especially the case with a franchise like the Spurs which has always done a good job at surrounding their main player with 1-2 good-to-great second options and a bunch of complimentary players that know their role.

You could almost say it was 3 and 4. Since you can divide the 2000’s Lakers into 2 dynasty’s. And the 70’s Celtics, with Jo Jo White, John Havlicek, and Dave Cowens, won 2 rings without Russell, Bird, or McHale.
