I feel like the 1 Fuck being shifted towards Gina’s story is really well done and hits harder the more you look at it. Where before it’s said every time Bojack really hurts a relationship and then Bojack goes to physically, mentally, and emotionally traumatize Gina by strangling her (after having trusted him enough for to have a pretty sweet relationship I imagine is an extra knife in the wound beyond just being assaulted by a coworker, so it’s like every level of fucked), then the 1 Fuck stays with her because now Bojack is NEVER not hurting her.

I think the f word was supposed to symbolize a relationship with bojack that had been broken his friendship with herb, Penny, and Todd, and then his relationship with his mom, and then his girlfriend Gina idk what season 6 is tho maybe solidifying ginas idk because after that there relationships were never the same

GJP I didn’t like that one because I liked the theory that the f bombs signify Bojack irreparably damaging a relationship so I didn’t even realize Gina’s co-star dropped the f bomb of the season

but the sad thing is... she HAS become more difficult to work with. Her trauma does harm her and she harms the projects she is in because of it. Gina has become a hazard and an inconvenience to every single show or movie she works in. It's not that she was a false reputation, she had a true bad reputation because she is difficult to work with, but what people don't see is that it's the reason why she is so difficult to work with and the even sadder thing is that even if they knew it's irrelevant: she is difficult to work with and therefore she won't get many roles, and it's not a surprise, a movie or show takes a lot of time, money and effort, and she is not entitled to put projects in danger only because of her trauma. Bojack horseman is a show that defends this idea, your trauma is not a free pass to be shitty.

Swift Swalow she is stuck though, she can’t get her trauma addressed because she believes by telling the public that Bojack did indeed strangle her on set, that would be all she is known for. She wants to further her career while pushing this real problem aside. And she’s right, I think. Scandal does tend to be the first thing you think of with some celebrities. Her Trauma is no excuse to be a shitty person to others, but I feel for her. There’s not much she thinks she can do. If she had it addressed privately that might help, but the risk of it leaking to the public eye might still be a fear ... poor Gina.

Swift Swalow shes going to give herself a bad reputation all because she doesnt want to be seen as a victim. Shes overcompensating and putting up defenses. I hope she can get some real help.

I don't think it was a joke at all. The F bomb is always used when a relationship is damaged beyond repair. and by that point, it's clear that Bojacks relationship with his mom is way beyond salvageable. it hits less hard because it doesn't show the moment that their relationship broke, but it's still significant.

@@jodgee2374 It's more that the F bomb marks the end of that relationship, at least it marks the end of that era. After the scene where Todd says "F*ck man, what else is there to say?" their relationship is never the same, Todd moves out and isn't as close of a friend as he was before to Bojack. And in the final episode you can see how although Todd doesn't have any ill feelings towards Bojack he knows that their relationship as friends can't carry on since it would be toxic for both parties.

I also think it gives a subtle hint that when Bojack's mom finally recognizes him, he would NOT use the F-Bomb like he is planning to. Because the F-Bomb for that season is already done.

Fully agree. The ending of Time's Arrow is one of my favourite scenes in the whole show, and it gets so much of its power from the F-bomb we get here. The fact that it's played off for laughs almost makes us dismiss it, but its such a powerful concept (tearing into an aging woman with dementia in a moment of clarity) that it sticks with us and informs how we expect Bojack to act. When he's kind to her instead, it's the proof we need that Bojack actually can be redeemed. I've heard some people say she didn't deserve that kindness, but in a way, it wasn't for her. It was for him. He broke the cycle of hate.

One thing that many people don’t notice is Beatrice’s lucidity. After bojack describes the ice cream, Beatrice struggles to remember the taste of it (since she never ate ice cream before), looks around the room and realizes everything. But she goes along with it. And it hits so much harder.

I mean, as far as Charolette knows, her (still 17) daughter was about to do the nasty with BoJack. She reacted like any sane parent would in that situation.

There's no other way to interpret that scene she walked in on. What the hell else were they doing sitting on the edge of a bed starting to undo their clothes? There's no way that wasn't what was about to happen and thank fuck she caught it before it started.

I remember seeing this really hard hitting scene in a movie with a famous director, later I found out, it was basically like that. The actress was actually being attacked and crying because she didn’t know it would happen and they just filmed... I rewatched and Flip says and writes so many sexist things about women through the season. When he’s into the choking scene, it adds a whole level of ick to how he views women. Just... incredible writing (by the writers of Bojack, not Flip).

I think it's brilliant. Every time the f bomb is dropped in Bojack, it actually feels like an emotional bomb. People and shows nowadays use it so often that it has less meaning. Words lose their meaning if they are overused, especially swears and slang. I'm not sensitive about cursing, I do it more than I should. But I think swearing is more meaningful when it is reserved for emotional moments, especially the heavy ones like fuck.

Right? I was so sure there were waaaay more. So I'm surprised it was used sparingly. Kind of amazing.

Yeah, i never considered that Gina scene to be the one. Maybe to portray and show that they didn’t forget the “f-bomb” tradition, they made that scene. But deep down, i know the f-bomb was in Hollyhock’s letter. He ruined her.

Herb's was loneliness and regret. Charlotte's was rage and guilt. Somehow Todd's cut the deepest with his tone of immense disappointment and sadness upon realizing that he had to abandon his toxic best friend.Aaron Paul is an amazing (voice) actor, that scene is so convincing.

Todd needed to do that and afterwards he really grew. I’m glad he broke free of Bojack’s toxic treatment.

I think the one in season 6 is another subversion. Throughout part 1, Bojack is finally getting his life together. He's finally found solice and happiness with himself, at least a little bit. But despite that, he's still caused damage to people, and that damage still resonates with them. That's what the last episode is about. The "fuck" highlights this resonating damage, even though Bojack isn't in the episode at all. The fact that it's verbatim what Gina said to Bojack also emphasizes this. No idea if they'll surprise us with a second "fuck" in season 6, but part 2 is REALLY going to be interesting.

@@uknownada It's interesting to note how when in S6P2, when the guy said "What the fuck is wrong with you?" to Gina, she kind of paused in shock for a second and grasped her neck. This is because that's the same thing she said to BoJack, when he strangled her. When the guy said this same phrase, the traumatic strangling moment came back to her via PTSD flashback, because that phrase was associated with the incident. Just thought it was worth pointing out.
