One thing that I love about fishing crankbaits is the they work in a wide variety of situations. You can catch bass in really cold water on cranks, as well as really hot water. You can catch them in clear, stained and mussy water all on crankbaits as well.
Fishing a crankbait is truly one of the best ways o find bass quickly because you are able to cover so much water so quickly.
BassFishingHQ is dedicated to teaching people how to catch more and bigger bass. I will go over different bass fishing tips & techniques that will put more fish in the boat or on the shore. Whether you are just starting out or a seasoned tournament angler, my goal is to help you catch more bass.

Dude bass fishing is so crazy. The fact that you can deep dive into 15 different categories of lures plus the rods plus the time of year, plus weather conditions, type of fishery, structure, behavior of the fish… I’m about 6 months in and as a salt water angler this world of bass fishing just blows my mind.

Here’s one for you !!!! Back in the 80’s I read a In Fisherman magazine. Al Linder had a short article on boat positioning. And was suggesting to position the boat on the shallow side of. ((. Well up in Minnesota there’s a lot of weedlines in these lakes )). I went out trying that technique and here the famous L. K. Minnetonka has super deep mill foil lines or edges. I grabbed the biggest deepest cranks I had. Mann’s 20-30 plus cranks. I’d throw it out at an obtuse angle too the weed line and burn it right into the bottom edge of the mill foil Where fish were sitting to ambush. Well!!! It works. Sometime I’d have too let it emerged to the surface. On a cloudy windy miserable day I could work so decided to go out there. A huge Muskie followed it up along with the bait once I saw him I cranked it once. He slammed it. Drove itself right into the side on my boat and got all stunned. I’ve done That ever since and it works. Just saying.

I've always put a round-bend hook on the rear and an EWG style (usually the KVD triple grip) on the front since I figure if they are getting the back hook they are usually swiping at it and if they are getting the front hook they are hitting it hard.

I fish a crankbait more than anyone I've ever met. I always have 2-4 cranks tied on at all times of the year everytime I put my boat in the water. I'm a firm believer that you can always learn so I kept watching and I did pick up something that is going to help me so much. Since moving to Alabama current is much more prevalent. Now I got another bullet in my gun when they quit pulling current. Thanks for a good video.

Check out the Zalt wobbler(took biggest pike I'm Sweden, record still standing), Westin Platypus is insane!! Such a great bait! Both these are evolutions of the swim wizz with their own peculiarity. Everyone interested in crankbaits should check them out. Westin Jätten is s real old killer too, since 1953. I thing many of these ones could be used in bassfishing!!

Appreciate the vid. new angler here from victoria australia so a lot of the bass related things don’t apply to me but the principles certainly do! i do have one question, one that i find pretty much every crank bait vid doesn’t explain at all. How is the crank bait supposed to act and feel underwater, and how are you supposed to make it act the way it’s designed to? the reason i ask is i recently bought a atomic hardz chubby suspending lure medium lip. it has a tendency to float on the surface sideways when i cast it far. when i leave it still to sink, and began reeling it in, it just rises to the surface again. i’ve tried reeling fast, reeling slow, giving it some tugs to dig in to the water (which it sometimes does) but it’s never consistent.

With the exception of the silent versus rattling crank baits issue, this entire video deals with two things, depth and speed control. Depth is depth., period. Steady retrieve, start, stop, pause, sweep, snap. yo-yoing, jerking, whatever you want to do with your lure, they boil down to speed control. Buck Perry, the father of modern bass fishing structure fishing proved without a doubt the two most important factors in fishing are #1 depth and #2 speed. The entire Lindner family preaches depth and speed control on every one of their Tv shows. If you aren't fishing at the depth the fish are using, you won't catch any thing, regardless of who you are and what gear you are using.

How do you determine whether you're going to fish a crankbait, chatterbait or a lipless crankbait? How do you decide which one is going to be the most productive at that moment. I love a chatterbait and catch a ton of fish on it, so it's one of my go to baits because I can fish it in pretty much any kind of water and it doesn't get hung up near as bad as a crankbait or rattle trap. Just curious as to what makes you say, this is gonna be the bait I'm gonna catch them on today?
@Psykout
@Psykout Жыл бұрын
Crankbaits, chatterbaits and lipless cranks - especially with rattles are search baits. They cover a lot of water so they can be excellent to use to build a pattern when first getting onto the water. Use a snap and swap them around to figure out what be hot color wise and if they are hitting it on a pause, what speed etc by how you work the lure. Start off with something similar to the forage and work off from there depending on water clarity. As far as hang ups, in shallow water around timber chatterbait is excellent. Squarebills cranks can be pretty good around rock and rip rap because it will deflect really well. Deep cranks are awesome around submerged weed beds and scattered rocks or wood to zero in on what exactly is holding fish, also for outside deep weed edges - i've boated some good fish running a deep crank parallel to really deep weed edges in very clear water. Lipless do super well around grass like eelgrass and pondweed, as soon as you feel it hit some give it a little rip and it should pull through clean. Lot of times when you rip it free of the grass is when they'll hit it. Jackall Deracoup also does this very well and if you really like chatterbaits you'll probably like those little guys too.

I'd like to know the answer to this as well. Of course if you watch pros on practice day they may have 20 rods on the deck, so you test all three and see which works best. For me, I have no confidence in chatterbaits. Never had any luck on them. I love to use square bills around laydowns and riprap.
@anthonytingle6578
@anthonytingle6578 Жыл бұрын
@TJ Ellis I have caught some monsters on chatterbaits during the spawn, just gotta change up your retrieve. The 2 best ways I've found to trigger the big ones is to slow roll it then speed it up real fast for about 4 or 5 turns on the reel then let it die for about 2 seconds. The other is to try to make it hit stuff then rip it loose and hang on

One of the biggest pains in the ass about cranking, especially in highly pressured waters, is the amount of other people’s line you are going to get snagged on and pull up. I’ll never understand how someone can break off 20’ of leader and then another 50’ of main line…but I see it all the time when I’m cranking.

I use a square bill all year long, the difference being is how I chose to retrieve it!! I am always catching fish while others around me are catching nothing!! Water temp can be 40 -86, it doesn't matter, FOCUS on your RETRIEVE, what ever way your getting the most hits, use it that way all day! Other days, the way you did it prior you might get nothing, then when you change the retrieve style , you will notice what method to use that day, everyday is different! I have the most luck with a quick yank, let it pop up, couple cranks, then small quick , short tugs, works almost everytime!

Hi Man I am in Thailand and actually from the UK originally. My lure fishing here is mostly snakeheads and barramundi. Firstly thank you for the explanation videos I find some of the techniques applicable and all the information is useful. I wanted to ask why do you and the other US guys I see focus on the gear ratio when I think what your actually talking about is the line retrieve per crank of the handle. Example the Shimano curado DC 150 HG has a gear ratio of 7.4-1 and a line retrieve of 31 inch per crank. If you then compare this to the Curado 300k HG this has a gear ration of 6.6-1 so a lower gear ratio but the retrieve per crank is 35 inch so 4 inch more than the 150. With a larger spool this would be expected but its always confused me as to why in the US the focus is gear ratio but it seems it should be all about the line retrieve per crank?
@zero-uz6ok
@zero-uz6ok 7 ай бұрын
Lower gear ratios equate to easier reel cranking. The more resistance a lure has ( larger billed crankbaits, spinnerbaits & in line spinners with oversized blades) the more a lower gear reel is desirable because of effortless retrieves. If you want speed wide sweeps of the rod will move the bait faster than any reeling could produce.

6th sense makes the 77x Swank that's far better in my opinion than the Hybrid Hunter. They also make a smaller 66x. Those are my favorite cranks. They have great hooks so you don't have to change them. I have no idea how 6th sense has not become more popular. There are only a few things I buy that aren't made by them, usually because they don't make them. They are the best by far, I've never had to change a hook or modify anything at all. The colors are crazy good and they aren't that expensive. You can see the quality, they're just better. I'm so glad I found them.

i prefer to swap out my treble hooks for a single hook. i may keep them less, but as a catch and release angler i prefer injuring the animal as minimally as possible.

You can order anything at Tackle Warehouse. My favorite 7ft-9ft diver is a Norman baits Middle N splatter bass 3/8 crank , can't find it unless I order. Although it does need better hooks. As shallow, KVD 1.5 all the way . I have to order certain colors

@@lowlifeangler Color is my issue in the store. They never have what I want or works. The problem with ordering is that I can't listen to the rattle to hear it's pitch.

@@lowlifeangler Me too. Big worm guy, love the lipless cranks. I fish a lot of really clear water with a lot of submerged cover so a little bit of sound is great to draw them out. Too much turns them off completely.
