Baby Bird Chick STUNG by WASP!

A nasty wasp unfortunately found the newly hatched robin chicks. As you will see, it landed on the chicks in the nest quite a few times. It might have even bitten or nibbled on a few of them. Eventually it stung one of them sending the chick flailing into the side of the nest. The parents were out getting food at the time, so this left the chicks vulnerable. The father usually guards the nest when the mother is gone but that wasn't the case this time. The mom returned moments after the wasp sting occurred. She at least gave the food to the baby chick that was stung. At the end of the video I have a zoomed in and slow motion replay of the sting. Looks like it hurt.
If you liked this video please consider subscribing for more baby bird videos! Enjoy!

Looked more like a yellow jacket..... I'm not sure about a sting.... the stinger usually either remains in the victim or is torn from the insects abdomen.
@EverydayCinematicBirds
@EverydayCinematicBirds 2 жыл бұрын
@@friendofcoal I’m not sure what type it was… could have been a yellow jacket as well. Only bees leave their stinger. I think it was stung based on its reaction and if you watch closely it does lower it’s abdomen onto the chick. I watched the chicks a lot and they don’t move like that unless there is a significant stimulus.
@EverydayCinematicBirds
@EverydayCinematicBirds 2 жыл бұрын
@@friendofcoal So I’ve done more research on the subject matter and wasps or yellowjackets do not loose their stinger when they sting. It also seems like they can sting very quickly. I think this chick was indeed stung but very quickly. The reason it is so quick is that a baby chicks skin is practically transparent and very soft. This meant that the stinger didn’t need to go far and was removed immediately when the chick reacted. There wasn’t anything that the stinger would get caught on. Just my thoughts, I’m no wasp expert by any means…

Basically I was letting down a window and did not know their nest was there and they got me good which I have a huge fear of them even though I always had one and especially spiders. I am scared of spiders then wasps. Man do I hate them and honestly I wish we did not have them but the only spiders I use to love was what we call in the south daddy long legs but now I’m older I am scared all mostly all bugs. @@johnsullivan1948 i don't think it's ok to call this wasp a bee because then we are blaming bees for stinging the chicks for no reason when it was a wasp. Why put hate one bees and be angry at them when it wasn't even one of them? Yellowjackets and honeybees aren't the same kinds of insects. There are differences between them. Honey bees tend to be a darker yellow and more fuzzy. The wasps are brighter and not as fuzzy, and the reason why the wasp tried to sting the chicks is because they don't just feed on flower nectar like bees, they eat meat too. Once a wasp was pulling the skin from a poor baby bird to eat. Not something honeybees do.

Wasps and hornets eat meat. Given enough time, it could've likely killed one of these chicks and started carrying off chunks of it. I've seen 3-4 yellow jackets dismantling a dead mouse with ease, they cut off huge chunks. They'll do it to your picnic meat as well if you aren't watching out. Hate yellowjackets and wasps because they get in your business and sting when you try to shoo them off.

wasps are actually a very aggressive for a reason, because when you get close to their nest, they release a pheromone that smells like bananas, and they go right to the smell of bananas, because they see it as a attack pheromone
@jeffreardon9052
@jeffreardon9052 Жыл бұрын
When social wasps get injured/killed, they release an attack pheromone. Residue of this pheromone often ends up on the body of the predator animal that killed the wasp, marking it as the "wasp killer." Other wasps can smell the pheromone and will seek its source, and then attack the predator that killed their kin. I wonder if one of the robin parents previously ate a wasp and/or brought it back to the nest, thus contaminating the nest with the attack pheromone, the smell of which prompted the wasp in this video to find the nest and attack the chicks. The chicks (which were still blind) were certainly not the ones antagonizing the wasp nest.
