I did it for about 15 years. Only towed about 4 times, nothing heavy. Got 19-20 mpg average, 26 mpg hwy. Most reliable truck I've ever owned. 2000 Extended cab 2500. Dashboard cracked of course, power steering leaks, lift pump, alternator, starter, all normal wear items replaced . No engine issues after 324K miles.

First thing you do is delete all of the engine killing junk off of the truck. I always make sure to warm her up and cool her down properly as well. My 2018 Ram Cummins crew cab 2wd drives and runs like it should now. I get 18+mpg in the city, 25-26mpg hwy, and 13-15 towing my 11,000lb 5th wheel. I run it with the rear tires aired down to 60psi and it rides really well. I love my truck and drive it every day.

I've been daily-driving my 2003 3500 Cummins for a little over 2 years now. Gotta say I've had next to zero issues doing so. The little inconveniences like being big on the road, the rougher ride, sometimes having to park further away from everyone to give yourself space, and the like are all just things you get used to after a while. To this day, I still prefer the sound of the engine to the radio 90% of the time! Definitely won't go back to gasoline at this point.

I live in a really small town in Alaska, and only have about a hundred miles of roads. No interstates, and completely isolated. I daily drive my 19’ 2500 CTD with no issues. My last truck was 15’ 2500 6.4, and to be honest sometimes I do miss the simplicity of that truck, but I just love the sound of the CTD.. lol. I work only 4 miles from home and drive another 6 or so miles to get groceries and gas, so the truck does regen a lot; usually about every month or two or 700 or so miles. Especially in the winters were she idles a lot in the cold mornings ( yes, she gets plugged in). I do have to take it on long drives about once a week to burn up the moisture in the oil, but my point being is these trucks CAN daily drive and people shouldn’t worry about it. At the end of the day, if it does break down, just fix it and keep going. No reason to sweat it

Best thing I ever did was have my truck completely under coated by LineX when it was new, takes a good 5-6 years of nasty salty Midwest winters to dry it out and start to do work. But I always repaint or spray that fluid film on any bare parts. But nothings helps if you can’t wash it enough during them cold -degree/single digit winters and it has to sit all covered in salt spray for weeks at a time

Don’t do 15,000 mile oil change intervals people. Manufacturers might say that it’s fine but they really don’t care that much about if once the warranty expires. Yes the oil can be a bit expensive but it is well worth doing. My Cummins lasted 485K miles without ever taking the head off, that would not happen with 15K mile change intervals.

The 1500 had a cargo capacity of 1400 lb and I needed more for the RV that I am getting. The 2500 has a 2200 lb cargo capacity which is well within the 1600 lb pin weight of the RV. I agree with what many actual diesel owners experience about the maintenance not being that bad if nothing goes wrong. Yeah you have a Turbo that can go bad, the actuator on the turbo is well known for failing at 60-80k. Overall it’s not hard at all to do your own oil change for under 50 bucks… Atleast it wasnt before Covid Ofcourse, Oil prices have gone up so it’s more like maybe 60 to 100 bucks depending on oil. . the good fuel filters to use are at around$100 but at least those really don’t need to get changed but once every 25,000 miles, atleast that’s what I’ve done and haven’t had issues in100,000 miles. In total stock form these trucks handle really well and do drive pretty comfortably for a heavy duty… Atleast my Megacab does. suburban lifestyle isn’t bad at all, I mean any longer vehicle can suck like a Tahoe/Surbuban, Expedition, van or 4 door truck. I drive around the Chicagoland area and have lived there for 31 years, it can be a little hairy depending what cities or areas you travel but overall not terrible as people think unless you actually live downtown Chicago or areas like San Diego where there is no space left. just have to know how to drive these things. On my 35x12.5 on 20x10 wheels yeah these truck do have a bad turning radius but again so do all big trucks. As for the weight, I speed around in mine a lot, I treat it like a sports car and with a good tune it sure gets moving well. These love to sit at 80-90mph on the highway for long periods of time. Plenty of cross country trips from Chicago to California, and these trucks,specially the megacab make for a great road trip experience. Super comfy for 30+ hr driving nonstop

I have owned 3 Dodge dually diesels over the past 20 years. I just bought a '21 2500 Laramie diesel. This video really confirms that they're not so bad for DD. I needed the tow capability somewhat infrequently but when you need it you need it. I didn't want the squat or to push the limit of the trucks tow rating on a 1500 and I'm well in the safe zone with the 2500. Looking forward to a long time with this thing.

Reducing tire pressure, especially in the rear helps with ride quality and tire wear, I end up driving with the tire light because ram did away with the light load button for the TPS. Also bushwacker makes a nice sill guard so you don’t scratch the paint getting in or out of your truck.

Yes these new trucks from all the big 3 are too tall for some. I’m 6ft4 and I think it was the 2018 or 2019 year… was at the Chicago auto show and even with the step bar in the bed, on good flat ground I had to lift my foot up pretty high to climb in. Anyone under 6ft next to me was like “dang!!! If you have a slight issue being tall I’m really not gonna be able to easily step up into the bed. I think the next year Ford dropped down the height because of it.

I never wanted a HD truck and really never considered a diesel. It was time for me to get a new vehicle and I was looking heavily at the Tundras. I was requested by a family member to purchase their 2018 2500 6.7 because they were in a tight spot etc. Reluctantly I did so, didn’t want to but financially it made sense and I’ve never really cared what vehicle I drove. Now I will NEVER buy another gas engine. I’ve put 30,000 miles on it in 6 months. I have a 26’ camper and 24’ bay boat that I towed everywhere with my Jeep Wrangler. Always kept it at 60 mph and took it easy and was comfortable doing so. I have to admit surprisingly to me, I think that 6.7 actually tows better than my Jeep! Ha! True story, I had to take the bay boat for work and it’s about a 5-6 hour round trip which we’ve done several times in the past with my Jeep. This last time we used the Ram and my buddy looked at me and said “I really think this is the first time we’ve done this and could talk to each other without yelling, and the fist time we’ve gone the speed limit! I also agree, maintenance isn’t that bad. The truck stands so tall you basically just walk under it to work on it haha. I attempted the fuel filters myself just for fun and cost savings. It was super easy, and same with oil changes. Super easy and diy makes it incredibly affordable.

Pretty spot on Everyday Man. I have a 2018 RAM3500 DRW Big Horn with the 4:10 Aisin. It’s more of an RV at this time (used for pulling my Keystone Fuzion 429 Toyhauler 5ver 44 ft). It’s a beast but makes small work of the Fuzion. Stable as hell, amazing truck. I’m on the severe heavy duty towing schedule but as long as I stay on top of that, she runs PERFECTLY. However, next year my oldest daughter will be getting her drivers license and will inherit my daily driver Chevy HHR. That means my 3500 will become my new daily driver. Not a bad thing at all but just means my maintenance intervals come up much quicker. Great info video so I know what to expect when the daily driver duties start.

Great video. From one Louisiana truck driver to another. Just to let you know, I have 2018 Limited 3500 SRW. It’s the 6.4l liter hemi. I get between 15-18 mpg. It feels heavier than my old truck (a 2013 Ram 1500 5.7 hemi) but the ride quality is exceptionally smooth. The truck feels heavy but the 410hp engine moves it pretty quickly. I have the 6 speed gearbox which I hear that people don’t like, the newer 8 speed is supposed to e a whole lot better. I plan to tow a 12500llb fifth wheel with it soon which will surely be the acids test. So far, I love my truck.

My cousin has the 3500 with the 6.4 and my 2 buddies in the 2500. They both are running 35×12's on their trucks witch would account for the worse mileage. I bought the deisel because my trailer and tractor weighs in at about 13,000 witch is right on the limit for the 6.4 2500. But their trucks are quicker than mine. Bit that diesel power has no end to it. There is always more when its needed. Thanks for watching and commenting. Hope your truck treats you well.

I'm looking at a couple of 2014 2500 laramie longhorns. Both are white with that stunning canyon brown interior. Only problem I have is finding the dadburned laramie longhorn floor mats with the dadgum barbed wire as the anti-slip tread. I'd like to find some that are at least in decent shape, but all I've found are the mega cab mats, not the crew cab ones. And the only crew cab piece I've found is the back half, can't find the front to save my life. Love the video though, and I LOVE these trucks!

I don't care what the factor says I wouldn't go 15,000 miles between oil change
@TheOfficialJuiceMan
@TheOfficialJuiceMan 3 жыл бұрын
My opinion and what I was taught - Anything more than 5k between oil changes is suicide for long term ownership. Problems may show up at mile 500/15,000 and the difference between 4500 remaining miles until inspection/service and 14,500 before the next service may or may not break your truck. Farthest I'd stretch it out is 7500 on a new 5th gen truck, 5k if 2/3/4th gen. I have a 06 5.9 Cummins with 140k on her and doing tons of work to her, looking forward to more on your channel about ownership! Thanks

What I did on my last two diesels was change the oil and filters myself at the 5000 range and let the dealer do it at the long computer indicated changes. This meant no possible warranty claims due to self maintenance but much lower cost. When I had to replace the turbo, no questions asked. The other good thing I said since truck is so high I didn't need to jack it up, I could just roll underneath it.

Bought my 2006 Big Horn Ram 5.9 diesel new in 06. 138,000 miles. Drive it almost every day. Never towed with it or carried super heavy loads in the 8 foot long bed. Has a 900 mile range on interstates and freeways. 48re transmission went out at 135,000 miles. $5000 to repair!! Why Dodge would build such a strong truck and diesel engine and then pair it with such a weak trany is beyond me. The transmission shop told me they rebuilt it with heavier duty parts than the factory so we'll see as the years roll on. Sounds like an old emissions free diesel and rides like the truck it is and it does attract coments in crowded big box parking lots. I had it renovated and it looks brand new inside and out. Yes, parking such a high and long truck takes practice and careful manuvering and the only modern features i wish it had are front and rear sensors.

Great video. I currently daily drive a 2013 Chevrolet 2500 with the 6.0 L vortex gasser. I use it as a daily driver to and from work (80 miles per day). Absolutely love the truck and don’t haul anything. I’m a big guy, 6’3” 265 lbs and the 1500 just did not fit me well. The mpg is 13-14 hand calculated. And it rides like a wagon. I am currently looking at and 2500 Cummins as a daily driver. Thanks for your input on the maintenance. I do worry about the turbo going out.....I’ve heard horror stories.

I've been daily driving my 2003 RAM 3500 4 x 4 dually all it's life. I treat it like a moped. It goes where I want to go with no issues. I go in parking decks without issue. I did add Bilstein shocks (well worth it) and I have 302k on it. Surprisingly to most it's a 5.7 Hemi. In the day I thought I'd do more daily driving than hauling so I opted not to drop the extra 7k (in the day) for the Cummins. I do sort of regret that but it's been a great truck with little to no issues. The worst thing was the transfer case going out. A 1200.00 fix. No big deal given the mileage on it. Otherwise it's been routine stuff, tires, brakes... I just bought a new 2020 3500 single wheel and went all in Laramie Longhorn with the HO Cummins. The only op I didn't get was the Mega cab. Might regret that one day. I love RAM.
