I'm not new to visual kei but I'm very new to Malice Mizer. I stumbled upon them through a visual kei youtube playlist and instantly fell in love with Au Revoir. The obsession with Mana is so extra but I get it though. Mana's other band, Moi Dix Mois, slaps. It has similar vibes to Malice Mizer, just more grand in sound. Mana's clothing line slaps. Mana is such an impressive person. Great video!

Personally I just like a few bands and that’s it 🤷‍♀️ I’ve known vkei for a decade and I’ve listened to hundreds of bands but I don’t like most of them. There is one bandman I follow, I invest a lot of time and money into supporting him and I think it’s strange that anyone would invalidate me for this when it’s so common for Japanese fans? Like okay, there are people who like 56 bands, but they are hardly supporting most of them in any substantial way

I've been a diehard vk fan since the mid 2000s. I've just heard about how vk is gaining notoriety through TikTok (which I don't use). The VK overseas fandom DIED in the 2010s. Blame hiatus, rise of k-trash and the what not. A shitload of material made by the community is long gone, consumed by KZfaq's copyright strikes and abandoned livejournal blogs. Public squares, such as monochrome heaven, were also abandoned. In a sense, the zoomers are doing an archeological work. A passing of the torch is not what's happening: they're, in a sense recreating the fandom, quite severed of what came before. And they don't have all the tools (blogs for downloading discography of bands, rare material, translations, which the k-trash fandom mimicked with excellency), and this can led to this new stage of the fandom becoming... unnervingly reconstructivist. I hope this new spark of interest in VK is the jolt needed for the community to get properly organized once again.

I've known vk since like 2003/2004 thanks to my best friend at the time, but I couldn't got into it because I thought it was too violent (she listened to bands like Dir en Grey etc)....eventually I had a love at first sight discovering MM, thanks to someone else...my autistic brain was sparkling and they became my special interest, especially Mana...unlike most female vk fans I saw at the time, I wasn't a edgy, rough and indifferent...I've always been bubbly, girly and fangirl-y, but in the 2000s it was unacceptable among teens, after being bullied for years in school because of it (and autism and hair type) I was also bullied by MM (and by extension VK) fans I knew...they mocked me for fangirling on Mana (hell even the person who got me into MM let me down and refused to advice me on songs/ vkbands to listen to), which was perceived as cringe at the time, and for being excited beyond levels etc, I even was insulted...I didn't even consider myself a VK fan and all of this sickened me from looking for more vk bands. At the end, all of this and my insecurities made me so bruised that I was torn apart my SI and it took...16 years to recover from this...eventually in my life, when I was in need of nostalgia plushie and source of serotonin after years of special interest feels drought, I got back into MM, especially Mana...it felt like I picked up my interest and fanness where I left it, it was so therapeutic, as an adult I was stronger and had built more self-esteem and realized that nothing was wrong with me at the time...I was healing, it was a special interest revival exploding like fireworks, before that I was in 2 year-old whirlwind of anguish, phobia that I couldn't get out of, but I can say Mana got me out of it...fortunately I kept a handful of good friends that I kept from theVK fandom, they supported me, I saw that online, everything were safer...cringe culture was dead, I was allowed to be myself and stop to pretend I moderately cared about MM online. There were plenty of fangirls expressing themselves on social medias which increased even more my fanness, I caught back all the time I lost the previous years, fan content (don't underestimate fangirl content) is so underrated and important for me! the shame of being a Mana fangirl was no longer a majority, eventually, I made an old dream come true and went to Japan to meet him w a friend, it was worth it...teen me have been healed ♥ I'm not on twitter, but my autistic brain is looking for every MM and Mana related pic and rare infos fangirls share on social network. I'm happy the 2000s are over, I'm a full grown adult and I stand by my fangirl-ness and hell even my arousal about it because I can and it belongs to me...also I never ceased to be bubbly and girly despite all the wounds, I wear these features w more pride now. I'm an old b who has been listening to vk for at least 20 years now. I had no idea people only talk about Malice Mizer. I mean, they're good, even my mom loved them (RIP mom), but there are so many great bands in the genre, old and new!

I honestly LOVE your channel. I'm an old head myself, and I used to have friends in high school that I could talk to about Vkei stuff, but not since about 2008 or so. I love that you come from an "old head" kind of perspective, and so I can relate to a lot of things you talk about. I had kinda been feeling like the Vkei thing (in the US) had died out or something- even though it was never really a popular thing to begin with. But lately, I have been coming across a lot of content that's shown me that there are actually a lot of others- like myself- who never really stopped listening, or being into this kind of music. Thank you for the time and effort you put into your channel.

The first 12 seconds XD. I've been a fan of vk for over 18 years. And i was also unaware of the giant vk craze on tik tok. I am liking it a new wave of vkei fans. The Youngins are keeping it alive . The scene is thriving finally. Regardless.of the feedback isnt the best. We have more of a community now. Malice mizer is a great. starter band. R.I.P reita.

I agree! I got into Vkei through Diaura as a teen around 2010 so when I finally dived deeper into the community I was hit with malice mizer hard. I like the band but only certain songs (and tetsu’s era) so it became a headache when I tried finding mutuals online and no one really liked or talked about other classic bands or even the new bands I like.

Fully agree. As a fellow oldhead, I can rarely listen to malice mizer just bcos of how much I've listened to them over the years. If they stay in the scene they will find new bands. They are so unique musically that if they are only interested in finding more of that, they're going to be disappointed I've definitely also seen a weird toxicity towards people who listen to old bands. Idk why, it's good to know the history of the genre. Not like we stop listening to western bands when they disband. gotta say I had to stop using my visual kei twitter account bcos of the community fighting nonstop 😅

I totally agree with fans fixated on one band. I did it when I was 14 or 15. As you get older, you become more open and get exposed to different bands and music. Also, a lot of these whiney little twerps do try to talk smack about age. Its easy to brush it off when you realize and see where theyre stuck 😆 Ive never been into visual Kei.. I LOVE old 80's Japanese goth. Fucking amazing and way better than most stuff already out there but, eventually it all gets old and people either move on and look for more bands or just get over the whole genre.
