I've been a fan since high school, I'm 35 now and I have been through so much with the support of VK music-- college, living in Japan 6 years, my first marriage and divorce, postgrad degree, the pandemic, a career change, a new marriage and now a baby... I'm now 35. Reita was one of my fave VK musicians of the 2000s, and even one of my old email addresses and fanfic account names back in the day included his name. I will make sure Reita lives on by playing the GazettE's discography in my home. I hope my son likes it, too 😂💜

I am still in disbelief. Seeing the notice of his passing tasted like a bad joke, a hoax, like someone making a belated April Fools gag... This hurts so bad after 16 years of listening to the Gazette and making sure I turn up the bass, I love his sound so much. Amid all the horrible state the world is in, watching their concert DVDs was one safe haven I thought I can enjoy and find solace in... Just shows us how fragile life is and reminds to take care of each other. I hope his family & the rest of the band can find closure. He will forever stay the only tG bassist for me.

I agree with everything you said in this video. It makes me feel sick the way people can act within this community, which is why I largely avoid vkei twitter. Made me so sad to see that Miyavi comment, poor guy jesus christ. Genuinely what goes through someone's head to type out something like that? It really does feel like we are losing everyone, and one can only think "who next?" as morbid as it is. RIP Reita :(

honestly i think most (not all) younger fans who found out about visual kei through tiktok just genuinely do not know how to act with consideration for others. As a young person (19) myself I see a lot of people's posts that are my own age and I'm just baffled at the lack of self awareness they have? Its definitely a tiktok issue and I think its disgusting how its so normalised on that app for people to not show any respect to others, not only that but I see so many younger people trying to gatekeep vkei and calling others new gens as if they're not younger than the subculture itself. Theres just so much toxicity on tiktok and twitter, people are so out of touch with the real world and refuse to acknowledge that others have feelings that are just as significant as theirs. I feel so bad for miyavi, such a horrible way to find out about a close friends passing i hope hes doing okay. If hes at coachella i doubt he will have proper time to sit down and grieve which sucks, i wish he wouldve heard the news when he was able to actually process it.

Damn. I always love hearing his playing in all the songs. On speakers sounds like he in my room playing, he really made sure bass is heard and I always respect that cause I love bass a lot. Very creative musician from one of my favorite vk bands. He really knew how to take you on a ride with that instrument. R.I.P. Reita 🙏🏿 I'll keep memory him when rocking out to the GazettE 🎸🤘🏿

You could not say it better, thank you for this video it made me process it a bit better. Reitas passing has been on my mind since wednesday, I grabbed the bass again after like 10 years Miyavi deserves all of our love for the love he is giving us, this hurts ... I was blessed to see both of them live, Miyavi and also Gazette and it was a dream come true We should go to the concerts, you never know which one is the last

Thanks for your video! As a fellow Reita fan, and GazettE fan since my late teens, I'm still struggling to process his passing, along with getting on with day to day life. As you said, it's hard for the non-GazettE fans in our lives to understand exactly what we're going through since they don't know who he is, so for example, to go to work and act like nothing's happened has been really awful since we're unable to talk about it. I've just been spending a little time each day reflecting on my happy memories of him (as well as the band in general), listening to the songs with my favourite bass solos of his, and writing down my thoughts, as well as making sure to check in with my online friends who are also fans of the band. Having this outlet has definitely helped, and it's great that you have your friend's support too. Sad to see that a part of the fanbase is being so disrespectful, and I hope it stops soon. Take care of yourself

I saw that comment on twitter and I was like wtf. I love what you said, literally said it perfectly. They don’t even know Reita to that type of lvl, and have the audacity to demand something from miyavi. My intake on that was : It genuinely made me upset bc even I didn’t know on Monday of what happened until Tuesday afternoon-ish. It’s like.. people have lives, people never know when their loved ones will die. We can’t control anything, like how was he supposed to know? Wasn’t he at cochella? He was posting not knowing of what happened, obviously he was out and about, not checking up on the latest news on what was happening back in Japan. I did see someone post of them apologizing ( the person who told miyavi ) thing is, how awful of them to say, “inappropriate considering you were his friend”??? I had to go to work with my eyes hurting bc of how much I cried on Tuesday night. I genuinely thought it was a cruel joke people were making. Remember that dumb trend around 2022 of spreading misinformation about celebs dying. And I thought it was happening again.. poor guy.. why does it always happen when a celebrity die, people expect their close ones/ family & friends to post everything on social media to see. Just bc the artist had their life on camera doesn’t mean that even when they die and their casket should be recorded and be broadcasted. Their family members/close friends shouldn’t have to post their grievances and let everyone know what they’re currently experiencing. I understand us fans to do it bc of how inspiring he was, but leave their close ones/family members out of that spotlight.. Omg don’t even get me started on how people are speculating his death and saw others use Reita’s name for some cash grab, selling fake merch onto fans to get a quick buck out of him.

I've been a fan since high school, I'm 25 now. Being a new parent, I didn't get the news until just yesterday. I didn't believe it at first, thinking it was just some sick joke... trying hard to hold on to my own delusion >,< Reita was the first person I liked as well, along with Aoi. Reita has always given me inspiration and I have always felt a sense of awe at his musical skills. I will always be a supporter of the gazette. I will always wish them to take care of their health, to take rest, and to wish them in good health >,< I'm still so dang sad about this. as a fan I can't help but feel conflicted in crying about his death, just because I am just on person and don't know Reita on a personal or fan level as I haven't been to a single concert as an international fan. Although, I am still pretty freaking sad and did cry a little yesterday the second I heard the news. Sorry, if some of this doesn't make sense >,

I agree with you 100% that the fact that we don't know what happened to him makes it more difficult for us to process that he is no longer with us, but for me the worst part is everything related to his last tweet and the fact that we are left imagining the worst, it is It is very hard to think that an idol that many of us admire, love and care about was having a bad time, it is wrong to speculate but how difficult it is when all the circumstances look bad but no one clarifies anything. I'm still in shock wondering why. I'm still waiting for him to show up and say it was all a bad joke.😭

I myself couldn't do much whole week. I grieved so deeply. Even when first learned couldn't move from my spot 4 hours. He was always there about this scene for me. He was as if was the representative of late visual kei. I would always look for the nose band in visuals and listen for the bass to pick up rhythm. He would build the tune so well. Would build audience at show start. Would keep the backstage alive. It is beyond insensitive to judge miyavi so badly. It means, you don't respect to anyone. He could've known as well. Do we live in his head? We don't. But being in this Fandom i hated those delusional weirdos who don't have understanding. They only wanted pretty looking people. But i don't want to think of trash when i think of such great artists. But from a connection i know how dir en grey members feels about such fans which makes them feel stressed and upset. If anyone doing this, i hope they stop following these groups. You're only damage. I know a great group of people from early 2000s got themselves separated from this. I somehow connected to t hose awhile ago myself. I noticed how tired they were and sticking with occasional karaoke. And i know some people keep saying Toshiya is suicidal, not that they know him or ever see them out of the music related promotions. Why are you putting out there as if your call is Toshiya not Reita. Can't we treat these as regular humans outside their costumes? I'm just sad :(

Men also often tend to crieve differently than women. Two of my male cousins went to play salibandy day after their parents died in a car accident. It wasnt that they didn't care, but completly stopping your life can make grieving someone even harder mentally. And person dying is so big thing, often people who lost the person cant fully comprehend it, so they just keep going on.

Yes. I genuinely believe people have their different ways of processing and grieving, ways that go beyond what people want to see (or feel they should see) online. Keeping things moving while trying to process is the answer for many people, as well as dealing with their emotions privately, alone with themselves.

And it was awful way for Miyavi to find out about Reita's passing. I started listening the gazette back when I was 11yrs old, now as a nearly 30 yrs old, it's still my favorite band to exist. I am still shocked. I found out , because i saw your video and just stared dumply at the title. I agree with your words and it is heartbreaking how much some 'fans' demand from the artists. In my opinion, they are musicians, it is their job. Maybe they love their job, but a job is a job. And you need to be a functioning human beeing at work. I don't know how these 'fans' handle their own job, but from my personal experience, i can't go and cry and break down then i am at work. My coworkers and boss knew my father died and they were respectful and tried to be understanding, but i had still a job that needs to be done. No matter how i felt. And as a musician it is the same. How could that person type such a message? No heart, no thought. It is disgusting. I can't imagin how it must be to read that random words about a friends passing... And grief is personal and no one needs to proof their pain. Sorry for my english. I am still a little overwhelmed and it's not my first language... Take care of yourself and stay save. Rest in peace, Reita 🖤

Please tell me he didn't die....so I did the same exact thing by searching his name on Google last month and it said he died so I was not so very happy about it at all I even told my family members and friends about it but i will forever and will always miss Reita I even thought about meeting him in person but its sadly too late, RIP Reita, You'll be missed

The day Reita's death broke out, Yomi and Hitsugi from Nightmare streamed their web video series. They handled it very well but you could tell they seemed a bit off and in the picture afterwards. Idk how close they were to Reita personally but Hitsugi is close friends with Aoi so I imagine it had some impact. And comments in the episode talked about Reita and there were fans saying things like, "I'm glad you guys are in good health" I didn't even watch the episode I was in such a daze the whole day. The 16th when the news broke out was my birthday and I couldn't help but be cynical about the day

As someone with no social media, I only found out about Reita's death because I met a girl at a goth concert who was by some miracle also visual kei fan who let me know. I can't say that I had a particularly strong reaction to it despite having been a fan of the ban since 2012, but I sympathize with how difficult it is to find people to understand/care about what happened, given how niche it is in the West.

The news of his passing hit me so hard cause im musician cause of him he was my first influence to play bass and gazette is one of my main influences to make music, Reita made cool to play bass so i guess he influenced many bass players. Its funny how a man that even speak your language has the power to change your life, its because music is universal to us humans and he made that clear playing bass with all of his soul. I dont know about the band future but it will be difficult to replace him since he was the engine that kept the band going and he had the charisma, its like replacing Steve Harris from Iron Maiden

Performative grief is foremost a US American concept. Not that we don't recognise or acknowledge that it exists in other cultures but unless people know your actual real visceral negative feelings or you are crying obvious crocodile tears or doing an over exaggerated display of sadness and grief, expressing grief and sadness at someone's passing even if it might be a little disingenuous is considered basic politeness in a majority of cultures. You might not feel anything but you express condolences and even express the pain it is on the world,the family or yourself for the loss of someone cherished. It's just considered good manners. In some cultures people will even say "I didn't like them but their death is still a sad occurrence for the family/loves ones/fans/world/myself".
@Savette_
@Savette_ 3 ай бұрын
My thing is basic politeness being transformed into having to make a post. It is very dystopian. Especially 1 day after someone has passed. If we were talking about close family and friends irl, I would understand, but I stand by my statement that fans forcing their own expectations of how someone should display their grief (online) is entitled behavior. Performance and ettiqutte are built into many cultures. They have their negatives and positives, but no, I do not think artists owe grief to their fans in any way, shape, or form online. Especially to those who try to squeeze it out of them in such a disrespectful manner. Family and friends are a completely different subject because these are people you know intimately. Heck, maybe even coworkers and associates. I see what you're saying, I just don't feel it applies to any of the cases I've talked about in this video.
@notyourproblemshh8125
@notyourproblemshh8125 3 ай бұрын
I feel like its's fine to express condolences as it is as far as we can go, otherwise it is not any of our business to speculate/seek attention/contact anyone who was close to a passed person... They don't owe us anything, they are people with a private lives. Cases that were entioned here shocked me, as it's hard to understand why someone would work their way around this as if Reita's passing is just a gossip, which is disgusting and made me almost regret making a condolence post in first place because it feels like I'm almost part of the problem, even though we come from different places, when for me it was a way to process my feelings. It's a good thing to think about though and be critical, as even posting about it is an indication of growing in such individualistic culture which I acknowledge too. But still different than straight up gossiping and ignoring these people's feelings which I can't just believe how people do it.
@cheezarose
@cheezarose 3 ай бұрын
@@Savette_ In many cultures,even for fans it's considered polite and a sign of appreciation of that person for them to express their condolences and grief as soon as possible. In many cultures,it's considered even polite to exaggerate your grief a little especially if the person was someone respected or famous. If the fan didn't post as soon as possible,in some cultures it would be seen as he wasn't "loved"/"didn't make an impact". Back in the day fans would write to the agency or magazines or phone in on radio and tv shows. They would also gather in front of the agency or just on the street. They did that for Michael Jackson around the world, people were on the street mourning him. When the Queen of England died it was also the same. It's just cultural.

@@cheezarose why does anyone be required to make a post ? first of all, people don't post to social media when someone dies and that should be the way. people pay respect in person while some do in otherways. I don't know what point you are trying to make here. Grief is different for everyone and there should be no compulsory need to broadcast it if they don't want to.
@cheezarose
@cheezarose 18 күн бұрын
@@userhjajajaj-pf3ov Nobody said people were obligated. I said it's more common in other cultures to express your grief publicly. It's even seen as a sign of proper etiquette and correct behaviour. Collectivist cultures value outward coordinated expressions of emotions instead of individual expression of emotions. If a collectivist society deems a behaviour to be the correct one,it is for all to take part in it and not doing so is seen as breaking social cohesion. Japan is such a society.
