The thing about VK is that it got a huge hype in the 90s and went mainstream. But the hype is over now and it turned to become a niche genre now. In the 2010s it was even hard to meet normal people in Japan which heard of VK. I met a girl in Japan who heard about a band called girugamesh and that's all. To be fair, even Gazette isn't a huge thing in Japan. Western people think that everyone over there knows them but that's not true, like everyone in the west believe that every japanese is an expert in anime and manga. People need to understand that VK was a larger wave in the 90s and early 2000s but now it's over. Thats why there aren't huge new VK bands which became very popular like gazette or dir en grey.

I discovered the gazette about 9-10 years ago, i'm almost 25 now. the gazette was my introduction to visual kei and reita was my first honmei, and the gazette is still my favorite band. this news absolutely broke me, i disassociated for a couple days, i was not feeling right. i understand why they may not want to disclose the cause of death, but for us fans, i feel like we would have some type of closure if we knew what happened. personally, i think he knew he was gonna go just based on the tweet he made the day prior.

I’ve been a fan of Malice Mizer for about 3 years now and was utterly obsessed with them. I grew a nice collection of their merch. However, I still eventually branched out to other visual kei bands who also make great music. My introduction to visual kei wasn’t even Malice Mizer (it was The GazettE)! I think it’s perfectly okay and normal for fans to be obsessed with a band for awhile as I was myself. Give these fans time to branch out, it will happen eventually!

For me my favourite Visual Kei bands are the symphonic/ power/ thrash/ heavy metal style groups.

The day Reita's death broke out, Yomi and Hitsugi from Nightmare streamed their web video series. They handled it very well but you could tell they seemed a bit off and in the picture afterwards. Idk how close they were to Reita personally but Hitsugi is close friends with Aoi so I imagine it had some impact. And comments in the episode talked about Reita and there were fans saying things like, "I'm glad you guys are in good health" I didn't even watch the episode I was in such a daze the whole day. The 16th when the news broke out was my birthday and I couldn't help but be cynical about the day

I've known vk since like 2003/2004 thanks to my best friend at the time, but I couldn't got into it because I thought it was too violent (she listened to bands like Dir en Grey etc)....eventually I had a love at first sight discovering MM, thanks to someone else...my autistic brain was sparkling and they became my special interest, especially Mana...unlike most female vk fans I saw at the time, I wasn't a edgy, rough and indifferent...I've always been bubbly, girly and fangirl-y, but in the 2000s it was unacceptable among teens, after being bullied for years in school because of it (and autism and hair type) I was also bullied by MM (and by extension VK) fans I knew...they mocked me for fangirling on Mana (hell even the person who got me into MM let me down and refused to advice me on songs/ vkbands to listen to), which was perceived as cringe at the time, and for being excited beyond levels etc, I even was insulted...I didn't even consider myself a VK fan and all of this sickened me from looking for more vk bands. At the end, all of this and my insecurities made me so bruised that I was torn apart my SI and it took...16 years to recover from this...eventually in my life, when I was in need of nostalgia plushie and source of serotonin after years of special interest feels drought, I got back into MM, especially Mana...it felt like I picked up my interest and fanness where I left it, it was so therapeutic, as an adult I was stronger and had built more self-esteem and realized that nothing was wrong with me at the time...I was healing, it was a special interest revival exploding like fireworks, before that I was in 2 year-old whirlwind of anguish, phobia that I couldn't get out of, but I can say Mana got me out of it...fortunately I kept a handful of good friends that I kept from theVK fandom, they supported me, I saw that online, everything were safer...cringe culture was dead, I was allowed to be myself and stop to pretend I moderately cared about MM online. There were plenty of fangirls expressing themselves on social medias which increased even more my fanness, I caught back all the time I lost the previous years, fan content (don't underestimate fangirl content) is so underrated and important for me! the shame of being a Mana fangirl was no longer a majority, eventually, I made an old dream come true and went to Japan to meet him w a friend, it was worth it...teen me have been healed ♥ I'm not on twitter, but my autistic brain is looking for every MM and Mana related pic and rare infos fangirls share on social network. I'm happy the 2000s are over, I'm a full grown adult and I stand by my fangirl-ness and hell even my arousal about it because I can and it belongs to me...also I never ceased to be bubbly and girly despite all the wounds, I wear these features w more pride now. I've been listening to vkei for 8 years, but I mostly listen to the same bands and songs, it was only from 2022 to now that I have tried to discover more bands and I have found some ones that I have liked a lot, I do feel like nowadays songs certainly don't have that sound or vibe from the 2000's or early 2010's that made vkei very special but I see a potential for some of them to become very good in the next few years. Personally I feel like not only in Japan, but all over the world, rock and metal lost their identity and popularity in the late 2010s but I feel like this is slowly changing specially with the whole nostalgia of y2k these days, so I'm hopeful for the future :)

Yeah I remember Reita when I started knowing about him when I was 15 years old, now I'm 26 and I remember posting a video about Reita because he was my biggest fan, I even had a picture of him in a wall years ago and I was very shocked about it too, I even saw someone post in a page in Japanese on Facebook saying that Reita had passed away, and I was like what? nooo!! Please tell me he didn't die....so I did the same exact thing by searching his name on Google last month and it said he died so I was not so very happy about it at all I even told my family members and friends about it but i will forever and will always miss Reita I even thought about meeting him in person but its sadly too late, RIP Reita, You'll be missed

It's very tough for me as well, and I barely sleep because of the news of his passing. I still don't know how to process this information, especially after being a fan of the band for so many years.
