Deep in the countryside of western Kenya lies Kogelo, the village where Barack Obama's father grew up, and also until recently, the home of his grandmother. Now, I hate American politics, and I wouldn't call myself a Democrat or a Republican. But this was too damn interesting to pass up. An entire village of people claiming to be related to Obama, former president of the United States? I set off from Kisumu to go check it out.

WHOA I'M ALIVE! I've recovered from my malariacovidebolaids and am back in action. Sorry to keep you waiting, I just wanted to know that you miss me. This is the first of the final 5 videos from Kenya, and each one is somehow more dramatic than the next. And I think you know me well enough at this point to know that's not an exaggeration. Let's start off easy with Obama's family. Sidenote: apparently it's a thing in Kogelo for almost everyone to claim relation to Obama, often without proof. So I can't confirm what everyone is saying in this video (except for the family at the grandma's house). But hell, if you lived there, you'd probably claim relation too, now wouldn't you? Sidenote 2: In case you're wondering if I'm a Democrat or a Republican, I'm neither. American politics sucks. Nacheza kama mimi

@@snowydoovey That is true, although some are more equal than others. This clip reminded me so much of what I love about Africa, in just a few minutes you can go from a bustling town centre where people are trying to sell you just about everything under the sun to rural areas where the loudest noises are the wind rustling through the trees or the sound of a goat bleating. I felt as welcome in Obama's village, despite watching from thousands of miles away, as much as Sabbatical clearly was...wonderful, wonderful people. I have been watching these clips in chronological order, revisiting places I have seen on my travels, this is probably my favourite so far...may there be many more!

What guys need to understand is that in the African set up, families live together in villages. You can't even marry from the same village because essentially you will be marrying your relative. So when you hear almost everyone is related to the Obamas then it's pretty much accurate but definitely some may lie just to be associated with the famous family.

Hi Tommy, Glad to see you back making videos, I am amazed at your ability to speak so many languages. You have a Wanderers spirit and I would like to recommend you reading the “Law of One” material which was channeled in 1981 in Kentucky. Many of your questions will be answered and many questions you did not realize you had will be answered.
