Awesome Video Brett! One of the things i have always struggled with my Nest is the ability to do a manual override on the temperatures. Like if its too hot inside then i set it to 65. A note of caution to people who do not have a "set" schedule like me. If you work different days each week, or different hours each day, you may be disappointed with a "smart" thermostat, since it really can't learn or be programmed to keep up with your ever-changing schedule.. Great video, Brett. I'd love to see how you installed the C Wire.

I have a Nest Thermostat E and don't really see a huge difference functionality wise. Interface is mich nicer on this one, but I like the turn style dial better. Reminds me of the old turn style thermostats bit with a modern twist. Turn style is what made the circular design necessary, now they may as well offer a different shapes too.

In your final review, the issues you mentioned about the second gen thermostat learning a temp you didn’t want it to learn and then having to go into the app to delete it can be easily fixed by turning off the learning function and manually setting a schedule. That way you’d know what’s happening in the morning and afternoon and when you go to bed and have total control. Also, what’s interesting is the older Nest thermostats have fan control to run it separate from heating and cooling too, and can be done in the app and on the device itself, but the Google Hub doesn’t show that as an option like it does in this video. 🤔

Will it control furnace blower ON/OFF? My humidifier is mist kind and requires heat and blower working together with humidifier. My humidifier also requires furnace blower to work a couple minutes after humidifier switches off automatically to distribute all the moisture collected in the duct. If blower stops the same time with mist humidifier moisture still will sit inside plenum and makes it rust. Will this Humidifier Control have this setting so furnace blower work few minutes after humidifier switched off??

The Home/Away and presence sensing has been a great addition to Google Home. I am not sure why having a C wire would make the thermostat more stable though. Sorry if it's a stupid question but does this thermostat learn about the thermal inertia of the house like other models nest? For example if you ask him 75f at 7 in the morning, can he calculate (after a few days of learning, maybe) at what time it must start heating to reach the desired temperature at the desired time? EDIT: no it does not. So I'll go with a Nest Learning Thermostat (3d gen). I believe it's an important advantage for modern, well-insulated houses that consequently have a high inertia.

Good review. I had a nest 1st gen, then we moved into a new house that came with a fancy Lennox tablet with WAY more useful settings for the furnace so unfortunately not using nest. These are the things my Lennox thermostat can do that I wish Nest would integrate; Half degree temp setting. - i ALWAYS use it. Half degree is noticeable. Fan speed control. - I can set the furnace's max fan speeds (fan only mode, cooling, heating). Humidity control. - Should be able to set this too. As in, what % of humidity goal to set the house at. HRV Ventilation. - I can set when my HRV turns on (for how long each hour), or manually on a timer. I can also set its fan speed as well. For sale; two Nest thermostats new in box. One Black, one stainless. lol

At 7:40, my Samsung S9 would just say "Connecting" and go no further. Restarted everything 3 times, that I let the connecting continue for a long time each time. Contacted support thru chat, too late for phone support. They went thru everything with me a couple more times, even uninstalled and reinstalled the App. Then they asked if I had something else to use as device. There was a Samsung S8 in the house. Loaded it with the App and everything went great after that.

That’s interesting, I don’t have a C wire either but wasn’t prompted about there not being one with possible issues. I did originally have a Rc wire instead of a Rh like yours if that’s the difference.

Does not having a C wire mean it won’t work at all or it just doesn’t sense your presence?
@omi4850
@omi4850 3 жыл бұрын
@@ezra3015 well I haven’t had any problems so far so I’m gonna assume it’s not necessarily needed if you have the others or maybe your second thing about not detecting the presence. Either way, I’ve had no issues at all

Brett thank you for this video. I already followed. I do just want to point out that right in the beginning you read the box and incorrectly(?) call it the Nest Learning Thermostat when in fact it is not the Learning thermostat, the box just says it is “The Nest Thermostat.” Not learning. I just think this is an important clarification. Am I wrong? 😬 Thanks!

How can I remove the voice (Smart Speaker) feature from my Google Nest Learning thermostat? I do NOT want to command the thermostat by voice. But, I still want the app on my phone so I can control/monitor the temperature remotely.

Hello Brett, When I asked my google to turn on the stairs light it also turn on the hallway light, but if I ask to do the hallway light first it only turn on the hallway light, I want to have both lights separate I don’t want to turn on both lights when I’m only asking for one to come on. I’m using wemo lights switch with google speakers.

What room do you have them in? You might want to make separate rooms, one called Stairs and one called Hallway and give that a try.

@techwithbrett Do you have any current thoughts on this thermostat? Im looking at either this or the learning 3rd gen
@TechWithBrett

I liked the newer model of the Nest Thermostat for how simple it was and easy to schedule. That being said, I just bought a 3rd gen so I could use the temperature sensor in a different room which the new Nest Thermostat does not have the capability for.
