Thursday: 2019 action sins.
Remember, no movie is without sin! Which movie's sins should we expose next?!

@@y4j1981 They didn't notice Danny as a kid, because they were simply in other parts of the country, their "range is limited" and the film explains it. They're in Florida during 1980 chasing the young girl. He's in Colorado Denver. His mom takes him away briefly to Florida to escape Denver, not long after the True Knot has just fed and we see the missing persons poster near the bench. The True Knot tends to chase one victim at a time, and Danny simply never registered to them. It's also obvious that Halloran's ghost and the ghosts from the hotel are shielding Danny. Halloran to protect him, and the ghosts because they still want to eat his shine.

The book explains why Grandpa Flick dies. Basically Brad had measles which when the Knot killed him, passed into them all. This also gave the Knot more motivation in the book to go after Abra, alongside the simple fact that they wanted to kill her or at least come after her and feed on her because she got into Rose’s head and learned everything about them thus being their biggest threat because she knew too much, because she was an older kid with the Shining and by sucking on her steam it would cure them. But then again the book’s don’t matter according to you guys for some reason. Side note: Best horror film, or at least one of the best in last few years. The nostalgia bait in the finale doesn’t feel forced to me, because they have a reason for going back to the hotel, that isn’t JUST “Look at how cool this place is that you remember from this awesome classic movie” , it was so they could have a better chance of offing Rose by being around all the supernatural shit that could consume her, literally. And then, them getting to Dan and possessing him to go after Abra only for him to fight back and burn the hotel down, is adapting the ending of the original Shining novel, into the world that Kubrick set up, so everything on both fronts is caught up if you get me.

The reason her powers don't work on Rose is simple. Rose is an older, more experienced and powerful psychic than Snakebite with several lifetimes of practice. Her powers aren't going to do jack to her. Apart from their old leader, Rose is the most powerful member of their coven. Rose and her Coven get their IMMORTALITY from the life force of psychic children, but they still need to eat normally from time to time. The life force is only used when their immortality is starting to fade, they still need food each day like any other person though. She wrote it backwards so it'd show up correctly in Danny's mirror. The nosebleed happens when they overextend their powers. So yeah, it is like Stranger Things, but unlike there it doesn't happen every time they use their powers. Because the Shining mind reading works when they are close to someone. But in order to find someone on the other side of the country, different powers are needed. Also, before this movie the only person who had psychic powers was Danny, and he was a little kid who didn't know the full extent of his abilities. Rose, a far older psychic, would have much greater abilities than he showed. Including astral projection. The leader of the coven is mentioned that the steam they get is no longer having the effect on him that it had. He's reached his limit, so him starting to die even after recently consuming life force is not to far-fetched. Dan is certain of this because he knows Rose and her coven are a group of child-murdering psychic vampires who would do anything to keep their existence a secret and anything more to get that sweet life force. So why wouldn't they kill anyone who gets in their way? Would the police believe them? Yeah they found the body and maybe Abra could demonstrate her abilities but that's still a lot of ifs. And if the police are connected to the True Knot, then that's a big risk. Again, Danny was five years old the Shining. His powers weren't as developed as Abra, or as practiced. And just like the Force, the Shining is a powerful energy that has many uses. So introducing new powers to keep things interesting instead of having the characters be one-trick ponies is not convoluted. There are lots of different psychics out there just as their are different Force-users. They use their powers in different ways and have different talents. Just because we don't see all the powers on screen in one movie doesn't mean there aren't more. Rose is likely more ready for Abra now after her last two encounters. They need all the advantage they can get, especially when she's now powered up by so much steam. And while shoe-horning the Overlook Hotel into the movie is fanservice, we know the ghosts in the Overlook are ever hungry for the souls of psychics so they likely wouldn't team up with Rose. Also, its poetic in that Rose is killed off being devoured on the ground by a bunch of soul-sucking ghouls. Just as she and her coven had done to all those children. Dan has a lot more experience with this psychic Shining stuff by now, he knows a lot more about this by now.

15:09 - Thank you for saying it! The entire premise for going back to the Overlook in Act 3 makes no sense because Abra has already defeated Rose twice by this point in the story. They should be planning how Abra is going to kill Rose with Danny's help. I assume the book ends differently.
@matperry18
@matperry18 2 жыл бұрын
Oh god, it's a lot different. First of all, the Overlook is already burned at the end of the Shining. In Doctor Sleep, it's now a campground and already the main base of operation of the True Knot cause you know, evil attracts evil. They are all dying one after the other of measles that they contracted from Bradley (completely ignored) and they think that Abra who has had the vaccine, would cure them with her steam, that's their main drive to get her fast, after the fact that she has a lot of steam to begin with. Momo, Abra great grandmother has a bigger role but dies of cancer before the end, but she gives cancer corrupted steam to Dan to lock up in a box. Speaking of boxes, Dan only has 3 in the book. One is Momo, other one is Mrs Massey, the bath lady (who just fades away because she's been in there for so long, when Dan opens it, she's dust.) and Horace Derwent. At the final showdown, he releases Horace who fortuitously kills one of Rose's friends, Silent Sarey (totally ignored in the movie) who seeks vengance for the death of Snakebite Andi, who were a lesbian couple (once again, ignored)). Billy Freeman, who doesn't kill himself is part of the showdown. Speaking off, Dave Stone also didn't die, he was also part of the trap that they set with the bunny. Also Billy wasn't part of the trap, he was on lookout on Abra, and gets knocked out by the Crow when he kidnaps Abra. There was another man in the trap, Dr John, with a much bigger role, who was also in the search for Bradley's corpse (not Billy) In the end, Dan (WHO DOESN'T DIE GOD DAMN IT MOVIE WHY YOU DO HIM DIRTY LIKE THAT!!??) releases Momo steam, kills all remaining True Knotters with it (beside Rose) and finally fights her and kills her. The whole duration of the showdown, Abra is at her home in New Hampshire and assists Dan from there. Bottom line, read it.

I always assumed that the reason why Snakebite's power didn't work on Rose was because Rose was far older and way more experienced with psychics. After feeding off of steam for so many years, her own power was so stacked that Snakebite's power just seemed like a tiny buzzing in comparison. That's why Rose was so terrified of Abra- Abra was the only person who not only could resist Rose but flat out boot her from her mindscape and cause physical injury to her, something that should be extremely difficult with adult psychics and outright impossible with a teenage girl.

This is an incredible movie and it has a special place in my heart. Rose the Hat is such a haunting performing. Abra is an outstanding character and Danny is finally fleshed out

I saw this movie in theaters with my acting club, specifically the cast and crew of our production of “RedRum”, a play adaptation of the Shining. It was like watching Endgame all over again with how nuts we went at all the references!!!

I'm pretty sure I remember them doing Space Jam. These things get taken down by YT and some of them can't be re-uploaded.

Holy fuck dude. I’ve been a fan for a long time. But the last few years your videos have been a bit iffy, the weird not needed sins, etc but this is much better than your recent stuff, we are finally getting back original cinema sins. Thank you!

I thought it was implied that Rose inhaled ALL the steam she had left in the trailer, expecting to get shitloads from Abra to restock.
