Araki has even made some suggestive Chaptwr covers of her if I'm not wrong. Why is this??

Sandman has to be the most mishandled character in JoJo. I get that Araki likes to change his mind and all, but... godDAMN, he did him so dirty. Not to mention, his new Stand power was just a slightly better version of Echoes ACT2.

To be fair, I'd say that Ta4 and infinite spin was set up early enough and requires enough skill to not be a Deus Ex Machina, but yeah, in general the rules of spin are way to loose and Ta4 is the most extreme example of that

In the beginning it seemed like Valentine's Cabinet/ Advisors were all him from different realities he pulled in using D4C. Then they just die.

Hot Pants's death was pretty bad, but what's even worse is that time she apparently didn't die in the Civil War fight. She's just completely forgotten about after she tells Johnny to forget about her, and is only addressed in a single bubble after the fight ends with not even a single panel devoted to showing "Hey, she survived". And I know this is a really low hanging fruit, but after basically being told that "Yeah, Gyro is gonna tragically die, he's just Caesar II and he's having an emotional moment with Johnny", Araki just turns around and inserts his bug bite fetish into the story, kind of taking away attention from the set-up of the most emotionally climactic scene in the entire story. Love Train had a second weakness that was set-up, then never mentioned again (unless it's the weakness you talked about). I think it was Johnny that said "Hey, the president is literally invincible except for when he attacks, where his arms are left vulnerable. Maybe we can get him there"... Araki promptly forgot this realisation and pulled out Ball Breaker and ACT IV. I feel like sometimes the race takes a back-seat and is forgotten about. The battles would improve tenfold if there was more focus on the idea that every second spent in battle is another second they're behind in the race. I seriously think that most of the best chapters in SBR focus on the race or the sacrifices made by taking detours. Scary Monsters is one of my favourite arcs since it takes place in what's supposed to be the downtime of the race, and it forces the heroes to move forward after dealing with the threat.

my biggest issue with steel ball run (especially sbr but this has happened in other parts as well) is that so many potentially great characters like sandman,pocoloco,Blackmore and others were just left like that with no real development while they could’ve been truly amazing added points to a part that has an already solid foundation like an exceptional antagonist and overall good stands

I wouldn't say Tusk Act 4 was an asspull. Sure, he did have just the right power to beat Love Train, but to be fair, the spin was said to wield infinite power back with Act *2.* Gyro also set up previously that the spin has control over gravity and could penetrate the barrier, and while that itself may seem like the setup for an asspull, I still think it was reasonable how it was explained

Sandman deserved way better. I thought it was interesting to see the part begin right with his conflict, and because of that (also because I want more representation of indigenous characters in a protagonist role) I would’ve been happy to see part 7 follow Sandman’s journey throughout the race. I know it’s not meant to be, as it is called JOJO’s Bizarre Adventure and not Sandman’s Bizarre Adventure, but could’ve definitely still given Sandman a better conclusion to his story.

I was also not a fan of how characters would force themselves onto Lucy Steel, especially Mountain Tim bc he was a cool cowboy and he just suddenly forces himself onto her and it's like no bro you were one of the boys. And with AU Diego, it's like Araki was like "How do I make sure people don't like him" and chose that, which I get it it's to show this Diego is more despicable and like the OG one but cmon man we already didn't like him.

I really don't like one thing about SBR and it's that boy that was sentenced to death, I think his name was Marco. It's his sad but weird end, in the final chapters we find out that later monarchy failed in Naples and he was released from prison and later he died of cold?! It was weird because just imagine that Gyro survived and he won the race and he redeemed him from punishment and then he will just die. I don't know it's just weird for me. Tell me if it's just my misunderstanding or it was really that important to the story Thank you guys for some answer❤

I agree with your points on Sandman and Hotpants. Sandman was the first character we met when the part began, I expected him to be a JoBro, or at the least very important. His stand it weird, but that's honestly fine. Araki learning comanche script for his stand would be a crap load of work that would require translating anyway, so maybe its an issue of it being a japanese manga. Hot Pants died so suddenly and off screen that my personal fan theory is that its a misdirect so she could save Dio and that's how Jodio in part 9 is related to him. Like its that out of left field that my crazy ass fan cannon actually makes sense somehow. Your takes on Valentine and Tusk are crap though IMO, and I like the slow opening. America had just as tubby presidents prior to Valentine's election, and during that period it was really easy for a president to control their image and how the public saw them, see FDR 60 years later. People said this with GER too, when the entire crux of an arc, fight, or character is about gaining a power up, that power up is not a Deus Ex Machina. GER did not come out of nowhere, they fought to get it. Tusk Act 4 did not come out of nowhere, Johnny had been building to it the entire part, we just didn't know what it could do. But given that Johnny is this fantastic foil to Valentine, being the counter to him makes a load of sense. Especially after Jojolion, it seems that the Joestar bloodline has this inherent connection to creating spins that can break the laws of reality, mark my words, Jodio will make something spin that cuts through some reality warping boss stand, it will happen. When it does, everyone will say Deus Ex Machina, and that just isn't true. In Jojo, when a main villain has a big mega unbeatable power, you can bet that the Jojo of the part will develop a ability to stop them, and that this ability will resonate with the major themes of the story. This was established in part 3, and its happened in most parts. Combine this theme of personal growth and the determination of the human spirit with the fact that there is always an in-universe reason for the power up- Jotaro didn't realize his full potential till he fought Dio, Giorno and his team fought tooth and nail for the arrow, Johnny has been slowly advancing the whole part- not expecting something like this to happen in every finale is odd. Jousk8's spin came outta nowhere tho. I got no defense for that one, aside from it setting up the Joestar spin being genetic in this universe, he walked so Jodio could run, I bet. For such a grandiose part that spans a continent, a slow opening that sets up disparate characters, explains the plot context, and puts the story into motion is very necessary from a literary perspective. The first few chapters build steadily to the first length of the race, which is this explosive release of tension and a fantastic arc. Everyone forgets, that section is a freaking Stand Fight, its Gyro against Hey Ya, its a weird one, but its also amazing. That arc is one of my favorite in SBR, and it would not work at all with a faster pace to set everything up.

I love SBR, but one of my biggest complaints about it is how slow it starts. If you're not interested in horse racing (which I'm not), the first 20 chapters are so god damn boring. Even the first major fight is boring. It really doesn't get good until The Duty of Gyro Zeppeli. (Admittedly though, when it DOES get good, it gets really good) I also agree with your takes on Johnny's dad and Hot Pants' death. That said, SBR is still one of my favorite parts. It's in my top 3 (alongside Stone Ocean and JoJolion)

There is remarkable shift in mood in Tusk storyarc (Holy Corpse and Valentine's introducement), while before that shift, manga was clearly focusing on bounty hunters for some reason trying to get Gyro Zeppeli Yeah, I'm suggesting araki quickly realised that he doesn't feel in shape to handle travel-only focused story so he added overpowerd mcguffin to it

I actually really like the beginning of Steel ball run. It's a chance of pace but it honestly does a great job to introduce you to its world. It's also gives you the right mindset for this part of not being all about the stand fights. But on the other hand, many of the first fights are pretty bad. Toon Boom family, "we have killer queen at home", bug man, "we have beach boy at home". For the other points, hot pants deserved way better (just like my boy Jobin), Tusk is not a deus ex machina (because i say so, mic drop), fat Valentine was funny and it makes the reveal that he is actually buff great, pd are bad but i like seeing them be kill so its fine in my book. Pd: Ok but in terms of deus ex machina i would rank all parts. 1: part 8, (go beyond is complete bs, and not really fun to watch because it's invisible lol) 2: part 5, (i just don't like deus ex mcguffing, it's a boring way to defeat the main villain) 3: part 3, (extremely bs but it is countered by having one of the best fights in the series) 4: part 7, (Tusk is a 4 acts stand, having the 4 being the answer to a imposible problem feels cool, it also looks sick as hell) 5: part 2, (random luck but it's actually kinda set up properly by Joseph being a lucky guy) 6: part 4, (no deus ex here, just kinda simple) 7: part 1, (anti deus ex machina? this is a pretty weird one) 8: part 6, (inverse plot armor? multiple anti deus ex machina. At first i kinda hated that but overtime i started to like it. Pucci finally being beaten by just a good use of stands and its own hubris, gained for noticing how much plot armor he had, is a really satisfying ending)

I'm impressed. Bro gave legitimate criticism of his favorite part, mad props. 8:14 Araki does love doing that at the end. A good example is Gold Experience Requim. GER is EVERYONE'S favorite stand but it's literally a deus ex machina plot device too. GER is the arrows wish power more than Giorno's stand being amazing. It doesn't matter what your stand was at all before hand, the moment you use the arrow and make a wish, your stand becomes the perfect tool to execute whatever that goal is. It's dissapointing too, because Giorno's base stand is really cool.

I gotta say, that after introducing Poco Loco and Sandman at the beggining, it was really dissapointing seeing they didn't play any particular important role. Gotta agree, why is Sandman using japanese characters? I would accept english, his native language, heck, even arabic (considering Jesus could have thought it to the native). To me, he was the most wasted character, he just flips into a generic bad guy for no reason. Also, agree regarding Hot Pants, when Valentine mentioned Hot Pants died, I inmediatly went back to re read the fight. I could have sworn I skipped a chapter by accident, her death came out of nowhere. Although I have no problem with Tusk Act 4 and Ball Breaker, I admit, it is odd that it just so happen, that the Spin can counteract Love Train, and not only that, that only the spin, with a Horse's help, can do the trick. I can accept the Golden Spin doing it by itself, but why did it specifically needed to be activated by a Horse's power? and how does being kicked transfers the power from the horse, which mind you, is laying on the floor NOT on a golden rectangle position, to a Johny who out of nowhere, is suddenly in all sorts of golden rectangle positions. But, I am willing to let it slide because the "rule of cool".

I know a lot of people don't get this but it is pretty easy to explain how hot pants died, the branch that killed her wasn't just some random branch, it was being manipulated by a early version of D4C love train and because love train saw her as a threat to the corpse ( aka Lucy Steel ) she was considered a calamity thus why love train ( or pre-pubescent love train ) killed her, love train is a shield of good fortune and anything it deems bad luck will be projected to somewhere else but if it's a person it will just kill them or badly injure them ( we saw this happen when love train was first used ). ( We also saw a similar phenomenon happen to Gyro after he was bitten by the fish and the cut started moving to his vitals, that's what happened to hot pants the branch move to her vitals but as we saw it went to her brain )

Sandman needed money, maybe he was convinced that if he won't win the race, he will still get the money by taking the corpse parts + Sandman = Soundman is weird only in English translation, in Japanese it's more smooth + he creates japanese text for readers to understand + yes, he dies, but he died convinced that he was doing it for his people 6. it may be forgetable because she died offscreen + she was left in the train alone without any help, maybe she bled out 7. better late that never don't You say? + even after all of this he is his father + he didn't come here just for the money, Johnny didn't win Steel Ball Run 8. it's a good fight, infinity vs infinity, that's why Valentine was defeated, it's fair, since the beggining we know the Golden Spin reaches infinity, we know D4C has access to inifinite number of universes, so when Johnny reachesz infinity, he can defeat Valentine's infinity

I'm not arguing that tusk act 4 isn't an asspull, it kinda is, but its alot less of an asspull than go beyond and star platinum the world. Spin and the golden rectangle was being built up ever since the beginning of the part, and it was slowly introduced to you as it got stronger and stronger, until it came to the logical conclusion of a perfect infinite rotation. The golden rectangle was perfect in nature, so it isnt too much of a stretch to make the connection that the infinite rotation is the final, fairly achieved form of the spin. especially with lesson five and the whole way it was slowly introduced with the hair on the steel ball, and everything it took to get it, everything had to be perfect, all the stars had to align to create tusk act 4. And it made complete sense, infinite spin energy was always the endgame of the zeppeli family, and it was power brought from already established sources. So, is it an asspull?? Well, really specific weakness and all that, so YEAH, kinda, but only KINDA, and its really fucking cool and was written well, and the emotion of it stayed true, so me personally? Im giving it a pass.
