Get ready, Tolkienites, it's time to tackle the original sacred trilogy, which, of course, contains some sins. We kick things off with The Fellowship of the Ring, the movie that set the record for most scenes of pure walking footage in a major motion picture.
Next Tuesday: Sins of a 3-hour movie. Bet you can't guess which one.
Remember, no movie is without sin. Which movie's sins would you like to see recounted?
Cinema Sins T-shirts can be found here: www.districtlines.com/Cinema-Sins

Oh there are sins in these movies if nostalgia glasses are removed. Plenty of them. Just elvish swords not glowing when they are supposed to glow is all over all six movies. In fact it's in the first montage of this very movie that you are claiming is perfect. Orcs with bad teeth, changing characters, not understanding the plot a couple places, distances way too short etc. MT is supposed to be like 1000 KM from Mt Doom, yet it's clearly visible on the horizon as if it's just nearby when observed from the city walls. Frodo and Sam can clearly see it from Emyn Muil too, which is like 2000 Km from Mt Doom. Have you ever tried looking above 2000 Km of marshland and volcanic desert? You can't see that far clearly even on a good day. At sea level the horizon is about 5 Km, and the higher you go the longer you can see. But not clearly, as if things are toys on your table. Hazy and far away. Everything looks like it was made with CGI in a movie studio rather than real, which is probably because it was. No one who made LotR has ever seen a mountain range in the distance. There's haze and things. Mountains usually look blue at a great distances, because that's the color of the air in between presumably. It looks fake as shit in these movies.

Actually that bit about the rings at the beginning was pretty accurate. The elves figured out what the Ring does and resisted the mind control and the Dwarves didn't particularly care much about the affairs of Sauron and weren't affected. Only men weren't able to resist the mind control and were useful to Sauron in any way.

to be exact: 16 rings were forged under saurons supervision. 3 were made by celebrimbor who happen to be the elven rings. after finding out what sauron planned they gave the 16 away. the 9 of the men turned them into nazgul and 7 to the dwarfes who were too strong to be mind controlled. instead their greed for gold was even greater due to the rings.

I think that the Three, held by the Elves, were made by the Elves without help from Sauron, which means Sauron wasn't able to put his will or magic or whatever into it. That made them less able to be manipulated by Sauron, I think. And then, yes, as soon as they put them on, they figured out Sauron's plan and never used them openly after that.

Did you see my first reply to my comment? I just want to talk up the movie because I love it, I do understand that it's not perfect. But everytime I watch one of these cinemasins videos, half of the reasons are disproven within the film itself, or just nonsensical/ meant to be funny. But why does this upset you so much? I'm representing my favorite movie. I have a right to do that. I actually have seen this video, it was just a long time ago. And I remember, as always, half of the "Sins" are bullshit. But I don't feel like debating this with you. Some are good points, like Sauron reaching out, but the achievement of the movie itself is so much more valuable than a list of a few things that someone with very little effort can point out as "Flaws."

Sin#2 - the one ring did affect the elves - when they knew sauron tried to control them through their rings, they took them off. When sauron was defeated by isildur, they could wear them again. The three rings weren't crafted by sauron - celebrimbor, feänors grandson, forged the elven rings in the same vain as his grandfather forged the silmarils by using his own spirit: the rest of the rings were forged by sauron. The 7 rings didn't work on the dwarves - it did make them more greedier and arrrogant, but sauron couldn't convert them as easily as he did the nazgûl. Sin#7 - The wizards powers (gandalf & the other istari) lies not in magic spells but in the power of persuasion - you see this with Sauruman controlling Theoden through Grima in two towers. You're thinking of wizards as in Harry Potter & JRR Tolkien, who never read Harry Potter because it came out 23 years after his death, modeled his wizards off of Merlin & the Witches from Shakespeares plays. Sin#10 - So there's two discrepancies: the first being that gandalf "saw the eye" and that he left and came back. What you have to understand is that Middle Earth was a land that had "magically" (I use this losely - it's more akin to alchemy) enchanted objects (Sting glows blow, Gandalfs ring Narya, etc.) The time lapse is 17 years in which gandalf leaves the shire and returns - he needed a way to confirm it was the one true ring, which you see in the documents saying to place it in fire to get the inscription. Secondly, gandalf had his suspicions since the Hobbit but couldn't confirm them - it's not like Middle Earth has Google, which I'm using right now to expedite & level these corrections. Sin#14 - The nazgûl cannot detect the ring unless the ring bearer is wearing it - it's a boobytrapped ring, yo. Sin#15 - because the ring answers to sauron, meaning that no amount of magic could stop it from returning to its master, as it is imbued with saurons spirit & has a mind of its own. It's the horcrux of all horcruxes, Harry. And for that matter - Sauron is stronger than all the wizards because he is the mightiest of the maiar, the lesser angelic beings of Eru and the Valar, which is why Sauron paired with Melkor in the silmarillion; who, like Sauron: was the most powerful of the Ainur. Sin#20 - because then the movie would be over. It's the same reason the eagles don't just fly Frodo to Mount Doom, although the eagles are under the command of Manwë and thus do only his bidding. For that matter - the ring isn't fully sentient: it functions like the seeing stones in two towers. What this means is that the entire sequence you just saw was coincidence, just like the ring slipping from Isildurs finger in the Anduin. Hey cinemasins - thanks for coming into work today. Sin#21 - Uhhh, you do know the nazgûl have no eyes, right? And that they're still men, albeit wraiths, so cursed men with special abilities which are tethered to Sauron? Sin#24 - Gandalf wouldn't die atop orthanc: it took a balrog & 24hrs of fighting to "kill" him, and he wasn't actually killed: he died from exhaustion. You clearly saw him manipulate lighting in that scene with Glamdring in two towers. Sin#26 - aragorn was literally guarding them and looking for supplies. He's a ranger, duh! Sin#33 - that wasn't Arwen that did that - it was Elrond, whose ring Vilya is capable of protecting his lands just as Nenya did the same for galadriel and lothlorien: The Ford's of Bruein are within the boarders of Rivendell. Sin#35 - The eagles a moving target: he's not striking it down. The mountain is stationary. Sin#36 - Because isildur had the one ring and knew it's power because of saurons corruption on numenór: Isildur knows the one ring confers the power of invisibility, so he - being possessed by Sauron's spirit inside the ring - could have put it on, killed elrond, sieged Barad-dûr, became the new dark lord and trigger the apocalypse. Elrond made a split decision. Sin#37 - don't be a dick to durins dwarves. Sin#49 - she means the dawn of the elves, when middle Earth was still veiled in night and Melkor was sowing havoc. Sin Corrections: 14, FT: 40ish (there's def a bunch of other stuff you could have sinned but didn't.)

I'm going to point out everything wrong here. Still like the video though: 0:18 the elves took theirs off, and the dwarves are just really, really stubborn. 1:02 wizards have to "save up" their magic before they can do cool things like kill Balrogs. 1:25 it could've been any of the rings of power; Gandalf needed to be sure about what it was and how to destroy it 2:00 it can be difficult discerning the origin of smells; especially if you can't see 4:20 eagles are canonically far more powerful than wizards 5:14 Saruman's a smart guy. He got what the birds saw and figured it out 5:35 word doesn't just travel slow in Middle-Earth. It travels REALLY slow

I understand that this is a satire video. But I'm still gonna correct. 2nd Sin 0:18: The race of Men are easily corrupted. Dwarves and Elves are not. 10th Sin 1:25: He still needs as much information as he can get, 14th Sin 1:57: The Ring wants people making a big deal over it so it prefers remaining hidden than found right away. Not to mention, it's only really easy to detect the ring when someone's wearing it. 15th Sin 2:07: The Ring's too powerful to simply be put into a magical container. Besides, such container may not exist at all. 18th Sin 2:33: Ringwraiths can't touch water because traditional folklore hints that evil beings are derived from fire. Water kills fire. Besides, did you expect him to just jump in the water after them? 20th Sin 2:41: The Ring wants to be fussed over. By returning to Mordor, it limits the amount of people that would have fussed over it. 22nd Sin 2:59: They are less drawn to it when it isn't being worn. 28th Sin 3:48: It's mostly Aragorn that's scaring them. 30th Sin 3:59: If you can't find anything wrong with the film then don't sin it. 33rd Sin 4:14: Yes she does. Why was that sinned? 37th Sin 4:54: He only broke one side of it. It's still a formidable weapon. 42nd Sin 5:31: No one who has been in the mine since then has lived to tell people about the death of the Dwarves. Anyone who was on there was killed by Goblins, Orcs and Trolls. 48th Sin 6:18: It's just Frodo being paranoid. Good video though. But maybe it's better to admit that The Lord of the Rings is pretty damn flawless.

@@dovahkiinchickennugget4182 thats just a speculation though, there is no mention in the books about what the nazgúl were actually more afraid of. Aragorn swang the torch, and they jumped away from it, and when they were set on fire, they ran away. The logical conclusion is that they were afraid of the fire itself, not Aragorn. But then again, I don't really get why ghosts would be afraid of swords, or people swinging swords, they are not living, what would a stabwound do to them? While fire is much more commonly referred to as the purifying element, which makes evil go away.

Senor Jeff At the end of The Two Towers and in The Return of the King, Aragorn commands an entire deceased army due to his ability to properly wield the sword of Isildur. That’s just him and the sword. I’m not saying Ringwrathes are afraid of fire because I highly doubt they are. I don’t even think that in that scene where Aragorn attacked them with fire, they were all that afraid. They didn’t just run away. They fought back for a while before a few were set on fire.

Yes, its lore is kinda interesting, but he doesn't contribute anything to the story, in a movie series with already so much to cram into, did we really need 10 minutes of nothingness with Jolly Ol' Bombadil ? The only concrete contribution he makes to the rest of the story is getting the hobbits to find the ancient blades that will, in term, help Merry injure the Witch King of Angmar. That's one bit that is not explained right in the movie, leading to everyone hating the Witch King's death... But really, that wouldn't make it ok for us to suffer through Tom Bombadil for it.

Cinemasins openly discounts the books when sinning. It makes sense for both a critic and a channel who judges in a comedic and non-serious manner. Honestly, I'd have sinned that awful betrayal of sauron. 2 reasons; -we've only had 10 minutes of seeing him as a 'good guy' so his betrayal is close to meaningless (and you can tell by the tone of the music that the watcher should feel deceived). I'm sure in the book he is fully developed as a character beforehand -what kind of fight makes someone think that two men are slipping on a slippery floor. It honestly looked ridiculous This is all my opinion. Feel free to rebut

I'm sure the book explains it, but to anyone who has never read it, these are sins. Why doesn't Gandalf solve all of their problems by flying them straight there on the back of eagles? Hobbits do smell, the reason why they chose Bilbo (as ConnorM1712 said) was because Smaug was unfamiliar with the smell of hobbits. You are right about the crows, though, it is infact clear that they would go through Caradhras since they were on the road that leads there, the only thing is that the crows didn't actually see them so how would they know which road they took? :)

Eetu Palo And Elrond's ring was initially given to Gilgalad. Basically, the true rulers of the Elven folk at that point were Gilgalad (the last although relatively young king of Noldor), Galadriel the last surviving and ancient elven leader that came from the West and Cirdan the ancient leader of the ship-building elves who had never left Middle Earth. Maybe Thranduil might be entitled to a ring although he was quite independent, unco-operative to the other Elves and normally his people and Cirdan's people have similar roots I think.

The 3 great elven rings were immune to the One Ring because unlike all of the others, Sauron didn't have a part in their creation. Celebrembor forged them in secret and gave them to Galadriel and Gil-Gilad to protect from Sauron. He couldn't control those rings, but I believe he still wanted them anyway to add to his power and to have dominion over the elves.

"Gandalf said it was a 4-day trip through the mines but it takes the Fellowship like, a couple of hours, if that, to get to the other side" Well, actually, when Frodo notices Gollum in Moria, Gandalf says that Gollum's been following them for three days, so they've presumably already spent 3 days travelling through Moria, and are almost at the end. A bit unclear to be honest, but it's there. And the sin for Elrond not just throwing Isildur into the fires of Mount Doom was ridiculous, i get that it was mainly for comedic reasons and these videos are just for shits'n'giggles yaddayadda, but you're essentially trying to make a joke about one of the coolest elves in Middle Earth for not just straight up murdering someone who's essentially now, the HIgh King of Gondor and pretty much the king of you know, the other half of your little Alliance which led to Sauron's death. Also, Saruman knowing where they were headed, is a nobrainer. They have a limited amount of options, he obviously knows they won't take the route through the Gap of Rohan, because that's literally right outside Saruman's doorstep, and, as shown in the movie, Gandalf knows what's in the mines of Moria, and would never willingly risk going down there unless he had no other choice, as he said. Soo really, this movie has about 51 actual CinemaSins valid...uh sins, instead of 54, and that's giving you guys a lot of headway here by not slaughtering you for sinning stuff that's explained in the extended edition of a movie that was released over a decade ago at the time of the release of this video.

Also Isildur was at that moment the hero who had just defeated Sauron, and (alhtough it probably wasn't mentioned in the movies) the elves were created to be good while men were given free choice. So Elrond, as he chose to be an immortal elf and not a mortal man, could not do evil, which killing the king of men who just defeated the dark lord would have been in my book at least.

Even the movie(s) farfetched from the books. 1) Sam Gamgee is a mere servant/slave to the Baggins. 2) Pippin & Merry are not as stupid as they were in those movie 3) The histories of Gollum/Smeagol was told at the first book while in the 3rd movie. The point is, it was a good movie yet still don't do justice to the book.

Im a lifelong tolkien fanatic, but let's face it, the movies were nothing more than mainstream cinema garbage...perer jackson is an amateur cinematographer at best (how many helicopter fly over shots can you have), and even Christopher Tolkien hates the movies and he said "Peter Jackson took my father's story and ruined it by making action movies for teenage boys"...also, just look at the scene on weathertop when the five nazgul go by in the background in a row, they literally look like cardboard cutouts on a clothes line...when I first saw that scene in the movie theater I said aloud: "Where did all the money to make this movie go?"

Okay, another thing about the One Ring. The Ring DID try to roll away to Mordor. The Ring actually moved itself away from Gollum in the caves, but once it leaves one bearer, it has to wait for a new one to pick it up. The farther away from Mordor the Ring is, the weaker that it's ability to manipulate others is, and also the weaker it's ability to move itself about. It takes so long to manipulate and control Frodo, because Frodo is genuinely good, innocent, and honest. However, the closer Frodo gets to Mordor and Sauron's influence, it becomes more and more difficult for him to resist the Ring. I will say though, that with the movies, the books hardly matter at all and the lore was pretty much hacked to shit. The movies are still good entertainment all in all, but fans of the books and the lore of Middle Earth will always be disappointed by them.

Then what gives them the right to criticize the movie based on a book, to the point where they identify things, that are not explained in the movie, but are explained in the book as 'mistakes' or 'sins'? I'll tell you what a true sin is. Ignorance and the stuckup-ness that is born out of it.
@natejacobson4339
@natejacobson4339 7 жыл бұрын
+Hans Esa They don't care about the books the movies were based on. Sometimes, when people see a movie, they do it because they don't care to read the book. If a movie does a poor job explaining things, then it's the movie's fault, NOT the viewers' fault for not reading the books. For example, when I showed my family the first Harry Potter movie, I had to tell them what was going on because they hadn't read the book and the movie didn't explain well enough for them. Movies should be able to stand alone.

Gimli actually used his friend's hammer, instead of asking or being anything but hasty. He probably thought he couldn't destroy the ring with his axe, so he used his friend's hammer. Also, keep in mind that hobbits are incredibly short and Sam only got a short distance before he started sinking into the water, which is how Frodo was able to pull him out. I agree that Tom Bombadill should've been in the Hobbit or LOTR movies. It's been so long since I have read the books, I have forgotten which one Tom was in

Dwarwen rings are lost long ago and elven rings can't be controlled by the One Ring. Sauron didn't even touch them. That smelling thing is suposed to amplify Rings power so that Frodo lose himself and put it on. Rivers are in Elrond's command in the books but Peter Jackson tried his best to give Liv Tyler some role i guess. That 'Why Elrond threw Isildur into the fire' thing does actually make sense. I really don't know why such a supreme elf plays no real part in this adventure.
@madmeddik
@madmeddik 9 жыл бұрын
the elven rings WERE subject to the one. you are correct in saying that sauron himself didnt touch them, but because celebrimbor made them with the craft taught to him by sauron (or as he thought annatar) they were indeed subject to the one, but when the elves wore the rings, as soon as sauron put the one ring on, they 'percieved' him, and did not openly use the rings as long as sauron still held the one
