A beloved children's book. An acclaimed director. What could go wrong?
Where the Wild Things Are suffers from bloat first and foremost. But also it has lots of sins! And that's what we do here: we count sins!
Thursday: Comic action from the aughts.
Remember, no movie is without sin. Which movie's sins should we count next?

This fucking movie legitimately, fully freaked me out when I watched it in school as a kid. It frightened me in ways horror movies didn't. Something about the way you couldn't fully trust the monsters, ever, and how the boy acted, the dark tones... idk.

It's not supposed to be dark, and it isn't. I dare say it's more realistic than most. The monsters represent Max's emotions, their erratic behaviour represents his own. Movies tend to paint childhood as pure and perfect, which adults tend to forget it isn't.

As a kid i loved this movie and to this day i still do and now i finally know why, i have md (maladaptive daydreaming) and this movie reminds me of it, its about a kid who is unsatisfied with his life and escapes to his mind and lives in his daydreams with monsters who care and love for him, i was like this as a kid i was disconnected from reality and was unhappy with my life without even be old enough to understand that, i created a world in my head full of beautiful forests trails and roads, creatures big and small and castles filled with amazing people to meet who were my friends, and i loved this world and all the people in it with all my heart and soul but, i felt as if i had no connection or love for real life at all, i was so sad and miserable that the only thing that really brought me any happiness or any emotion at all really was being in this make believe world in my head just like this kid, i was able to get past this stage of my life but still struggle to fully immerse myself into real life without wanting to escape to my daydreams but ive gotten better at handing my md and love my life now, i can definitely honestly say this movie resonates with me and has always had a place in my heart truly this movie is a one of a kind masterpiece. also sorry for my terrible grammar and spelling :,)

Problem with adaptations is that it's making something from one medium act like it was made for another, which it isn't. Imagine a TV show that consists entirely of text to be more like a book.
