So I had a guide on this from beta 1 and things have changed a lot since then, so time to update! Learn all the particulars of why you wanna raise the blood gauge, but NEVER EVER go over into berserk. Hopefully with the examples shown in this vid that should put to bed the last few people that think going berserk is any kind of bonus haha. Also for specifics to the frame data changes of his moves according to your blood level, here is the hard numbers, level 0/1/2. Each blood level you are up your heavy attacks get faster! 5HS 20f, 18f, 16f 6HS 17f, 16f, 15f 2HS 19f, 17f, 16f Jump HS 16f, 15f, 14f

cant you make a low high mixup in corners (2S into overdrive combo or forward jump h comes out with enough range for combo into overdrive) if you blood rage when they are stuck on wall after combo or in the air so that activation hits the opponent with no block?

you mentioned that Wasureyuki no longer halts the blood gauge progression like it did in OB1, but you didn't mention that in-between OB2 and release it got buffed to apply 4~ heavy slash worth of blood drain (2 bars), as a sort of middle ground. It won't save you from going berserk, but after using it you'll have a increased drain rate letting you use more supers or reduce your levels.

One thing I think most players didn't consider about Nago: He's a character that focuses on bar management and can chain multiple special in succession. Who else in GG does that? Sin. This makes me think that Team Red doesn't wanna add Sin back at any point, because you know, Team Red likes all characters to feel unique. Tbh I hope I'm wrong.

Good stuff! One thing I think you missed: Despite hitting with his big sword, Dust does not return blood gauge. However, the sword normals you do in the Dust air combo return extra blood gauge (8X according to Dust Loop). Also not sure if it's a bug or what, but sometimes Zansetsu won't exit out of blood rage. I've tested it on block and on whiff, and it's not consistent.

Problem is he cant dash and his normals are easily blockble by just walking backwards or jumping backwards because his long range heavy normals are just forward or tilted. Giving him roman cancel for blood rage would be nice, don't think it'll be broken. After all he can't dash and grab during blood rage. It'll also make his blood rage somewhat useful if your opponent didn't block blood rage you can rc to overdrive, making him live up to being "one shot". This would make the character playstyle revolve around getting two bars fast as possible and go all in, rather than never go into blood rage. Even with RC blood rage, its still extremely punishable because if the opponent blocks your going to either have to lose half health or use your last bar and take the punish.

A few notes: according to dustloop, spamming 5p and 2p can delay bloodrage as well. Due to Nagoriyuki's high guts value, entering blood rage while you're already at low health (20-30%) can help as an equalizer upping your damage resist and damage potential (although it's still risky) Another way to reduce the risk of bloodrage is entering it while the opponent in knocked down or wall pinned If you perform inputs with good timing during Nagoriyuki's blink, he will perform them as he comes out of blink, this includes command grab which can help prevent last minute blood rage, and with other attacks it also creates nice mixup potential Command grab can also be used coming out of quartercircle-back heavy slash dash, but due to the knockback, isn't always viable, but works well against turtling or people that do a lot of instant blocks. The above 2 methods of command grabs can be used to do grabs on wakeup Overall, well done.

I agree that's its suboptimal but there are ways to go bloodrage safely and exert some control over when it happens, particularly in the corner. It's one of the only ways to force someone off a wallsplat while keeping them cornered. Risky as hell for all the reasons you presented but it's worth noting.
@normandygahn
@normandygahn 3 жыл бұрын
And to add, the exiting bloodrage animation kind of acts as a cancel resetting you to a neutral position. It's even possible (though unlikely) to continue a combo after bloodrage ends. Anyways I'm not advocating for it, but as long as these mechanics exist it's better to know them and be able to take advantage when the opportunities arise. As an example nothing kills me more than watching someone land a stray hit in bloodrage and not confirming into super.

@@SeekSeekLest Yeah ! For command grab you can do it after the 5SS natural combo, Nago will go forward by himself and it get you in distance for a grab, as a mixup. Not gonna work on high level or 5P mashers tho ^^ A fukyo dash any hits or combos are the best options imo. The goal is to mix your approches to surprise.

Just wanted to say that there are some uses for going into angriyuki mode. I mean, it's usually to be avoided but it's safer than people think, though it depends on burst, tension, and hp really. If you have one burst one tension, s into hs into super does mad chip dmg and you're safe-ish from a full combo. If you have two tension and can guarantee an on block activation, s into hs into super into fwd dash rc into s into hs does even more. It's about 29% of Leo's hp from full. Furthermore, you can bait out punishes with rc which people don't always expect.

Great breakdown, I like playing Nago with 2 playstyles kinda combined. I play more aggressive when I have low blood since I can afford it by lord if I get a command grab in then the fun starts. When I have 2 bars and I feel like just hanging back and play safe and just poke with 5HS. 5HS is disgustingly good with high blood and I love it. Great video!

It's sad its such a negative state, if the activation was just not that unsafe and the state lasted a bit longer it'd be a really high risk and committal option and it'd make him even more fun. It'd still be something you really don't want most of the time since you're likely to lose more health than you take from them and you can't use any of your specials, but it'd make it an actual option you can sometimes risk to win a round instead of something you'll never purposely go into.

You didn’t mention how his blood rage state on activation is a guard crush, which makes it your turn if they block or get hit by blood rage. You didn’t give any value to his blood rage super which is a bit odd because you can (on reaction) use it against most opponent specials and supers and invuln the trade. Confirming a blood rage super off a near full screen HS or 2HS is super easy to do. Did not mention how his jH in blood rage is an instant overhead that can’t be anti aired because sword hit box is so long it hits their lower body hurtbox.

And even with all of that it's still bad. That isn't a mark against Nago, he's rad as hell, but berserk is a price he pays for being able to play the way he does outside it, not a reward for going ham.
@pdragon619
@pdragon619 3 жыл бұрын
Yeah, but that assumes an opponent who is actually going to bother to engage with Nago while he's in blood rage. Roofle's whole point is that the opponent can literally just huddle at the other side of the screen and FD and completely nullify any advantage his super might have. Yeah his super can trade and combo off a full screen HS, but by the time you're fighting competent opponents that scenario just won't exist because there's no reason to do anything but sit and block while all of Nago's health drains away. Yeah there will be plenty of times where you'll get a hit off of his super, but that's not because the move is good, it's just because the opponent doesn't know how brain dead easy it is to avoid it, and you can't really build a character guide around the premise that your opponent can't figure out how to crouch and block.

@@conorpratt8404 then what's the purpose of playing him when there's other characters that don't punish you like that for playing the character how you want to play him. When you're playing nago you can only play a specific style because you cant use your special along with the fact that you can't dash at all with him then your just handicapping yourself because everyone can do his job equal to him or better without that sacrifice or high risk. He looks cool and has cool moves but if you are forced to play a specific way along with having a character that has more cons than pros when he transforms then why even bother playing him when others can play how they want to

If you’re not getting the full animation it’s because you have to be closer to the opponent. Do note that not every super (overdrive for this game) has this extra animation. For example: Millia’s Septem Voices is a projectile super, and there is no additional cut scene for extra damage when done up close, but she may be able to get a different combo/setup from doing it up close as opposed to mid/full screen.

His blood draining normals do chip damage in and out of rage (of course rage does way more chip). Staying in lvl 2 gauge is definitely where it's at, but if I mess up and go over, I usually go for the super ASAP to stop the bleeding. The logic for me is: I'd rather take damage from a full screen punish than hold the life drain and risk getting opened up into a combo, losing a casual 90%. Of course this changes if I'm already low because either scenario amounts to death, so I may as well hold it and try to clutch it out with beefy normals. Of course, if they do something silly like throw a projectile fire that zerk super!

FYI you can spam P and 2P to prevent going into BR. FD is nice on the defensive or to bait them to get hit, but it costs meter, which can be no bueno. Spamming P is still not ideal, but I mean, you're going into BR. Don't go into BR in the first place.

What's your opinion on 2 points I've heard? 1: When you're Nago and low on health, the spammability of the specials makes going berserk worth it (as well as the HP drain being substantially less since it stops at 1HP) 2: When the opponent is in berserk, it might be worth it to quickly attack them and go for a small combo simply to keep them in the berserk state and from using their special to stop the HP drain? Awesome video though! I did not know about the speed increase and how that creates some nice combos. I knew about the range increase but have been playing him ultra safe by keeping blood gauge really low cause I was thinking the range increase wasn't worth it when he can already hit across nearly half the screen. Now I'll need to learn to more dynamically and intelligently use it.
@KingAfrica4
@KingAfrica4 3 жыл бұрын
There's literally never a reason to go berserk. If you're already low on health, they'll just combo you and kill you when you enter berserk. And for the second point, when you enter berserk mode it's a guarantee punish if you don't hit them with it and once people optimize combos you'll easily lose 90% of your health.
@HystericalHuntress

Nago is a setplay / resource management character combined into one. Blood Rage is a punishment for poor management (or in this case, overuse) of resources, there's never ANY reason you would want to enter it. You completely lose access to all of your specials, the new super is -66 on block, you hemorrhage health like you're being combo'd by Potemkin and the animation for it is the most punishable shit in the entire game. The new super, damage buff and increase on range / speed of HS normals doesn't counteract this. Which is exactly why Nago is meant to be played as an 'edge of seat / ride the line' sort of character where you're constantly managing blood gauge, wanting to keep it filled but never wanting it to get too high. So yeah, all that being said.. no. Blood Rage is bad, don't enter it under any circumstances. It's literally a punishment / debuff.
@KingAfrica4
@KingAfrica4 3 жыл бұрын
@@HystericalHuntress I still don't know how to optimally use Nago. Is it better to stay in lvl 3 blood (between 200-300 of the blood gauge) for the better range and frame data, or is it better to stay in lvl 2 blood so I won't have to risk going into bloodrage in 1 special move and have more options available because of it
@bunbunkitten
@bunbunkitten 3 жыл бұрын
@@KingAfrica4 What blood level you feel comfortable hanging around in depends on you. Every Nago would like to be able to permanently live in the 3rd bar to get the best range/speed for your heavy slashes, but if you're not comfortable with the limits it puts on you (and the amount of 6H fishing it often takes), 1 full bar is a good enough spot. The important bit is knowing what level you are at (or going to be at in a bit, after you've landed a clean HS hit and it starts decreasing the bar) so that there's no surprise bloodrage.

There is exactly 1 case where you MIGHT (a big, massive MIGHT) want to go berserk. You both have low health, the enemy is in the corner and you think you can chip him to death with special spam. And if it isn't enough, you stop the special spam infront of him and hope the transformation burst hits. It is absolutely not worth going berserk, but special spam for a chip kill should never be underestimated. And putting the fear into the enemy that you CAN chip kill them like that is very important for the bites.

I don't think that's a practical idea at all. It requires your opponent to have no meter at all (otherwise they can just FD to negate the chip) and you to have low blood gauge (since you're not going to be able to spam specials if you're already Level 2 or 3 blood). It would be really unusual for either of those to be the case at the end of the round, and you need both. Chip kills aren't as strong in GG as, say, Street Fighter, where you can guarantee a chip kill with a super cancel on block.
@NurseValentineSG
@NurseValentineSG 3 жыл бұрын
@@LeightonsLibrary Oh, no, it's not practical at all, but it is an option. Especially when the meter is low, because FD eats alot in strive. Gotta look if the situation allows it. Just like most of the stuff in strive.

It is probably still better to use the heavy normals as they also do chip damage, using specials mainly to keep the blood up a bit. People faultess defend those a lot less so it's also a more reliable way to get chip kills. At least for now.

That said double jumping while just blocking is a pretty safe way in against him he can't do too much about.
