So its early in the games life and all but... Sol Badguy is pretty much the best character. I am fully confident in saying that. As the protagonist, he's also quite heavily played! This combination of things have lead to me seeing a lot of salt out there on the internet, so this video guide is intended to help you understand what Sol is doing, and your options against him! Knowledge is power and against Sol's gorilla strength you will need every bit of knowledge you can get!

I come from 2024, I'm sorry but they kept buffing Sol, patch after patch. He now have Sidewinder, a real permanent Dragon Install that transforms him into Order Sol and he's the only character of the cast with an Instant Kill. Thanks for this! I've been labbing what to do against Sol's Uppercut, Vortex, Fafnir, and Heavy Mob Cemetery(Dragon Grab), but couldn't figure out how to stop the Far S Stagger or Gunflame on blockstring as Potemkin, so those are what I need to do to stop these two moves. ^^

Sol is as strong as his lore I guess. He literally is The Guilty Gear.

Ky main here, to add something else to the discussion on how to deal with our gorilla brothers At face value, ky does have his difficulties against sol moves, like his dragon instal, but its difficult if you dont use the system mechanic to punish him. A classic example is if ky throws out a heavy stun edge, sol could do dragon instal to punish it. Its true alot of kya moves can be punished, unless you do roman cancel. Bassically if you see sol activate his dragon instal, roman cancel dash up and youll cancel any special you did and become safer then safe And if you want to embrace the unga bunga nature, you can cancel your roman cancel with a special, like kys 214k, the one where he does a vault over kick. Hes technically off the ground, so not only will you dodge the grab, but whack sol in the head with your foot, doing the most rad punish and teaching theae gorillas to respect their king gorilla. Great video rooflemonguer anyway

Just something to point out about HMC, may can clash with the move with dolphin and because it leaves her airborne but low to the ground, you can consistently max damage punish it

For HMC, you can superjump back instead of regular jump to turn around int he air and get a forward airdash. Then you get a better punish

One thing i will ask, as a guy who mains Anji, i have discovered that Chipp, Giovanna and Ramlethal are the bane of my life right now. Especially Ram and Giovanna. If you play Ino and you see sol going for the command grab super you can input HCL anytime during the animation and it will come out as soon as it can and will avoid the grab while putting you into a position to get a full charged dust punish.

All these different ways to handle the stupid moves Sol have is great, I'm assuming Nagoriyuki can pretty much do all the same things here, when it comes to like escaping corner pressure, vortex and the punch spam, except getting a chance to at least poke Sol after his command grab super

For sols super if he catches you pressing a button you can drift rc up. Do a Kara cancel with your dash and rc button and press up

Mini guide for Anji: try to grab his air fire-fist dive (all your buttons are to slow for punish) you can easily punish ground-slide, BLOCK anything after the "big punch", avoid corner at all cost (your buttons are not fast enough for a consistent gunflame punish), your spin is NOT effective against any of his special moves (hard to grab and sometimes doesnt help with normal punish), your 6P doesnt beat far Slash spam. Not playing second game is fine, there no shame in saving your sanity.

Great video thanks man. I dont mind fighting Sol I think his kit is fun. The matchup keeps me on my toes. The problem is knowing when a Sol is just taking advantage of me not knowing the match up.

Hey roofingmonger I haven't seen anybody say this but I noticed something that I haven't seen anybody say. After wall break you don't start in the middle. The opponents start much closer to the side. It would be a great place for people to practice different combos from different starts post wall break since they would be in a consistent spot post wall break.

Sol has always been a notoriously strong character in GG. He has a lot of knowledge checks you have to overcome, but once the game matures and players start to get to intermediate and advanced levels the mind games will be more important than the strength of the moves. Just saying as someone who started with +R and struggled against Sol...you do get used to it and learn to deal with it. I main Venom and getting GV'd under a lot of my options used to drive me nutsss until i learned to anticipate and punish it.

Against heavy mob cemetery you dont have to actually jump. Any move that makes your 2 feet leave the ground counts. Very important distinction for Leo since he cant jump in back turn stance, he can do heavy attack as the overdrive is starting. Since sol has armor it doesnt stop him but it makes you immune to his throw and allows you to punish.

Advice, from a gorilla sol main, look out for night raid vortex specifically when sol has meter, a smart sol will Red rc it, because if you get hit its a combo and if it gets blocked he gets a free mix/close slash because the red RC makes it super plus and the situation when you block close slash is NOT good for you because its hella plus and he can dash cancel it. Vortex can actually be stuffed on the way in with a low on reaction with like a 2k or a down dust for a CH, which is definitely preferable to blocking it with a red RC.

I’m new to this game and play sol. Not because I knew he was top tier but rather like his moveset. Now I know why my mashing has been working lol. This guide not only for how to handle him but I viewed it is how to PLAY him haha

A week late but I feel that, regarding Gunblaze, it's important to remember he has a feint version still (for the Sol player who isn't completely monke) and recovers much faster. Something to think about if you're going for a counter.

Getting into the more common mixups with f.S, if you FD f.S, 5H will usually whiff. If you IFD, a second f.S will also whiff. Either create a good situation to deal with Gunflame. His DP is also extremely unsafe, which should be obvious, but people seem to think it isn't for some reason, so it may be good to make note of.

I had already labbed punishes against that Sol command grab super as May. It is possible to punish with jump into S dolphin and then RC to continue the combo. Wish I could find something a bit better than that.

On the super, could you jump then Roman cansel to stay low to the ground and get what ever punish you want

For sol command grab super what happens if you try to back dash? back dash is invul for a bit, does it count as you being airborne? if so i assume that would lead into a full punish although the risk is high. (i need an option as nago lol)
