-- Holosmith is an aggressive but fragile damage profession that is capable of generating some of the largest DPS spikes in the current World vs. World meta, and has a surprising amount of build diversity and flexibility, depending on the preferences of the person playing it. In this guide, I'll cover the essentials of what you need to play Holosmith for your first squad, discussing gearing and trait choices, basic rotations and skill combos, and your role in a larger squad. The goal of these guides is to give you the knowledge and skill to play a profession effectively, and discover the finer points and advanced techniques later on.

The April 16th balance patch changed a few things with regards to Holosmith. Photonic Blasting Module's coefficient got nerfed, and Prime Light Beam's target cap got nerfed. This build is still fine as-is, just note that the tooltips are going to be slightly different in-game than what you see in the video.

@@sheffplaysgames Following your instructions and with a good opening on the enemy zerg I can easily put 400 - 500k dps in an encounter between blobs.

It's an ongoing process -- keeping everything up to date with balance patches is tricky. But I'll do my best.

Strips are not LIFO or FIFO. They are kinda random (at least on wells of necromancers), with video proof. Just record yourself 4 times with same setup (necro vs FB for example) to check it out.

This is something that I plan on formally testing, because in talking to other people, I have heard different things. Most common explanation is that strips are FIFO, but corrupts are random. Going to grab some friends and test in Armistice when I have a chance.

Every skill has a priority list which boon it removes first. There is a very old forum post going over every single skill/trait

That's showing corrupts, which are supposedly random. But strips (remove a boon) and corrupts (convert a boon into a condition) are two different categories of skills. I did (very limited) testing of this today, with some friends in the guild hall, and it looks like both strips and corrupts are FIFO, but I need to do some more exploration of it. I think sometime in the next month or two we'll do a "WvW Myths" video, that explores some of these weird, niche topics in a structured way. :)
