Very awesome little bastard. I think I have chosen this one. I have been going back and forth with the original and this one. I am confused as to why only the original has five 12ax7s and all the rest have four. I think you are Matt Daemon or Matt Daemon is your clone, as you sound and look nearly the same. Great video Kyle! Appreciate all the practical infromation, as well, with performance, etc...

Cool video! On the drop it sounds metall) I am now racking my brains in search of an amplifier for the bedroom and home recording. Advise that this amplifier is better, 50 watt (for a bedroom?) or PRS MT15, or maybe 6505 MH, Invective MH? Unfortunately, I do not have to listen to them live in my country, only to order.

They just sound so damn thin and strange compared to the larger heads. I can’t get past that. Late comment, but this one sounds great with emgs. I've found seymour duncans aren't very clean sounding pickups for heavy amps; great for more open stuff but for palm muted stuff they suck. On 5150s because they have so much low end instead of using a boost I've found it's better to use tight pickups, more natural sounding. Great video btw.

Suggestion: trade off the drive pedals in front of the amp for an EQ pedal (first in chain sequence) in the FX loop. Boost or cut what frequencies you lack or have too much off. These things become totally different (in a good way) amps.

Kyle, did you mention that the 50 watt Stealth is suitable for bedroom volumes, while still retaining a relatively good tone? I always tought the 50 watt heads were WAYYY too loud for home use. Did they tweak the new models? I am more interested on the 50 watt "Marshall" type EVH head, with the EL34 tubes. Is it also suitable for bedroom volumes? Cheers!

@@belligerentamateur Maybe I'll give the 50 watter another chance. Back when the original EVH 5150 50w first came out, I had the chance to borrow one. I took it home and played it through a 2x12 cabinet with Vintage 30's on. To my ears it lacked low end and the overall sound was very bright, brittle and almost as if I had a some sort of wah wah pedal on. Very "nasal". I tried to adjust the EQ and the resonance knob to make the overall tone thicker and meatier, but it did not do it for me. All of the above led me to believe that the amp just isn't capable of sounding good on a lower volume, which would be understandable.

Why do guys boost everything ?? The metal crowd want to boost every damn thing lol.. I am not being a wiseass or a jerk but i cannot believe this amp would need a boost of any kind, just a EQ tweak.. Lets be honest this is a jam/practice type amp, (home use, garage or recordings etc ) ... lets not compare to our beloved 50 and 100 watters its not a accurate thing to do yet i see people doing this. I am Happy to see all the lunchbox amps and all the different options for guitarists these days, thats a GOOD THING!!
@jmcsquared18
@jmcsquared18 3 жыл бұрын
Actually, by complaining about something so fundamental, you are indeed coming off as a wiseass. For rock or metal, boosting is almost an essential. There is a definitive difference in a sound when you push preamp gain when compared to boosting the clean signal. The former just saturates the signal more and more, to the point of distorting the signal too much and losing definition. The other increases the signal amplitude itself, which creates a more natural clipping, adding clarity and midrange to the sound while giving it that extra bite that we all know and love. This little EVH lunchbox head responds so well to boosts because its EL84 valves are comparatively quite small. They need an extra bit of push to sound "full." But even with some full-sized heads, especially rectifiers, turning down the gain and boosting the front usually creates a more pleasing tone. Amp manufacturers put way too much gain in the preamp, even with the gain dial at noon, making it so that you need to turn the gain down anyways. Putting a boost pedal in front takes advantage of full-sized power tubes and preamps with too much gain to make the sound ideal.
@dethstormpx4
@dethstormpx4 3 жыл бұрын
Nothing wrong with el84"s lol take the shit jjs out and put preferred stock in. On a scope they don't start farting out until over 2 o'clock..... Pretty sure you didn't push it there in this vid..
@belligerentamateur
@belligerentamateur 3 жыл бұрын
On every amp or just this one? It would be different a different spot on the dial for literally every amp. Whether they "fart out" scientifically or not, they just tend to impart a flavor and feel on amps that I don't care for the louder they get.

I have the first LBX and i will say, These are really awesome sounding heads for home use and recording. I run mine thru a Ox Box to my Mac and can get some pretty tight, sweet sounding gainy tones to record with.

Agreed man! I actually prefer the LBX for the blue channel, but the volume sweep on this is much better
