@@peterschaefer1665 ok but the Stealth was made with more gain. You simply have to turn down the gain. 2 o'clock on a Marshall is pretty toasty as well. Rockinchippy just had to dial back the gain and turn up the master to balance the volumes. Both amps sound good green and blue but the red channel on the stealth destroys the EL34 What blew me away was the sound of the Green channel on the stealth with everything dimed. Perfect comparison. Most just want to show how metal an amp can get, but you also want to know how classic the amp can sound when playing blues, or classic 70's and 80's rock. These companies would sell way more amps if they'd show how to get AC/DC to ZZ tops tones out of their amps instead of the abrasive metal tones all the time, JMHO,.....

Maybe not too much headroom in comparison with second and third channel, but very surprised about this! Second channel is better for me ( less vintage). Third channel is very good. In general I like the depth on the rear... for me a very good amp like the original but with some different sounds. Maybe too much compression but in line with the type of amp. I hope this will help some of you. Dave

As for the Green channel the schematic shows on the 100S 6L6 is more like a hot rodded black face Bassman with the normal Fender tone stack EQ. Blue is most definitely formulated from the Bogner XTC there's no doubt about that but the Treble taper is Linear and not Audio tapers like the XTC. Red channel is SLO all the way but with a tad less bass in the preamp and with an extra gain stage compressing it more. Again this is all according the the Fender EVH schematic 100S 6L6 version. EL34 schematic isn't available to the public yet. They are fantastic amps and I've owned and still own a hell of a lot in the last 22 years.

My two cents- 12AY7 in V1, V2, and V4 of the Stealth. Can still do molten gain all day long, but the whole amp is far more usable and the cleans clean up if you want them to. Love the channel 'Chippy!

Getting my Stealth back today. May try a 12at7 to tame the clean channel a bit.
@divebomb99 Жыл бұрын
@@jroc6166 I had a chat with the designer of the amp a few years ago, Howard Kaplan, specifically asking about how to simmer down the gain. He told me to *not* use 12AT7's. He recommended 12AY7's or 12AU7's. I didn't ask why regarding the 12AT7. My basic understanding is that the 12AT7 is better suited to stages that serve reverb and vibrato, like in a Deluxe Reverb, not so much for gain stages. For some reason "the internet" has latched on to the idea that the 12AT7 is the go-to gain reduction tube (I thought so too for a long time) but there are other options. A 5751 might be a good choice as well. Either way, have fun!

Stealth sounded snappier and a bit more clear, but I felt it was missing some of the mid to low end. Both sounded great but I think the EL34 is maybe a more well rounded amp with more tones. The blue channel on El34 was a little less clear but it didnt sound bad by any means. It would sound perfect if you were playing some Deftones or something like that. I liked the cleans on the EL34. How would you compare them to say a Mark V, a Lonestar or a good Fender clean? Also, did they fix the volume discrepancies between channel 1 and channel 2 that the older amps had. I heard that's a thing with the 50-watt versions that the 100-watter didn't have. Definitely el34 has more of that British feel, both are amazing but I'm glad you uploaded this video, 99% of the vids of this amps (specially the Stealth) just play way over the top on riffs with too much gain, and this amps you don't need it, I had the first evh 5150 3 and I played metal with gain on almost 3. There has to be a mod for the Stealth. The 50 watt version fixes the clean channel. I just ordered a stealth 100... Having trouble finding info to fix that clean.. My block has trwted me well for a lifetime, but needed something more flexible.. Looks like I opened a can of worms though! Need those mods! Oh yeah.. The 50 watt also changes something about the blue channel, but the stwrkest contrast is the green of course.

The 50 watts are quite a bit different. The 100 watt 6l6 and el34 are a lot closer. The 100 watt stealth has alot more low end than the 50 watt, and the el34 100’s blue channel is not nearly as flubby as the 50 watt version.

@rockinchippy Sorry man, you must get asked this all the time, what reverb and delay setting do you use to make your tone sound so classic 80s and just great? Please, thanks
@rockinchippy4 жыл бұрын
I’m using the SDE3000 delay which can be found on the Boss DD500. In this case it’s built into the Waza Tube Amp Expander. Also in this video you are hearing the Fx in stereo which really makes it pop 🤘🏻

Both sound great to me. What reverb/delay were you using with them?
@rockinchippy4 жыл бұрын
Hi Scott, I’m using the FX built-in to the Boss Waza Tube Amp Expander. I believe it was the SDE-3000 stereo delay with light modulation.

@@rockinchippy Thanks! I swear you had a video where you were talking about using the RV-6 in +delay mode and I have been racking my brains trying to find it!

would of been a good comparison but you had the delay on and it coloured the sound cant tell anything

I‘m torn between the EL34 version and a peavey invective... What are you guys thoughts on that, besides the EL34/6L6 difference?
@InfamouslyCantankerous3 жыл бұрын
What style of music do you mainly play
@christopher.k.guitar3 жыл бұрын
@@InfamouslyCantankerous I’m mostly a hard-rock/classic rock guy, but my amp collection is pretty solid in this regard. Since a couple of months I’m more and more interested in heavier styles in the metal realm. It would also be cool if the amp would cover later EVH territory (my Friedman Small Box and my Marshall Super Lead struggle doing that). Thanks for your reply, really appreciated

Great video. Passive cab or Waze TAE or Reactive Load?

Waza TAE

Man after this review I'm really torn between the two. The 6L6 is like you say creamier while the 34 is more crisp.
@ambrooks52 жыл бұрын
I hear that. I was set on the 6l6 at first but the more I listened to videos the el34 just sounded better for my style of music. You really can’t go wrong with either though. Great stuff!
@vintagetrk2 жыл бұрын
@@ambrooks5 I ended getting both mostly cause I'm a gear whore but I love the tones both these amps offer.

The Boss TAE is used on which amp? I bought one listening to the first clips you posted but was under the impression that it only does one amp at a time
@rockinchippy4 жыл бұрын
I was using an amp switcher with the shared “speaker cabinet” being the Waza

Have owned both…kept the stealth. I just find it to be slightly clearer and brighter sounding. The el34 was a bit darker and maybe a touch fuller sounding, but I thought they sounded damn near the same and the el34 sells for more used. The 6l6 I can get clean by lowering the gain to less than one and compensating with volume knob.

So, these amps are dialed in with the same settings. How close can you get them if you wanted to make them sound like each other? Can you do it easily?
@rockinchippy4 жыл бұрын
They have different voicings so they wouldn’t really ever sound exactly the same. That’s kind of the point of having the two versions.

GREAT VIDEO!!! both sounds amazing. But are my ears or the EL34 can cut better in the mix when sounds in a band together with the bass, drums, etc...?
@rockinchippy4 жыл бұрын
I tend to agree that the EL34 has more presence in a mix. It really jumps out.

I know this was a couple years ago, but how would you compare the evh 5150 III 's to something like the Suhr PT100? I've owned a PT100 and wish I had kept it, but I've been looking at EVH recently. Thanks
@rockinchippy Жыл бұрын
There’s two versions of the PT100 but Suhr amps and EVH amps are so different that it’s a little difficult to compare. I’ll leave you this little nugget: I owned both versions of the PT100, sold them both. I have both versions of the 5150iiiS and will never sell them.

@@rockinchippy That says a lot. if you had to pick 1, el34 or stealth?
