My grandma got a call like this and almost fell for it but luckily she remembered me showing her your videos. She had the man on the phone for over an hour. Lol so thank you for what you are doing!!!

I think they do realize that their behavior is terrible, so this is an opportunity to spurt out all the lazy excuses they've been telling themselves. She has no reason to justify herself to you, and anyone in her position would want to hang up the call. She has no money to gain from you, so she's wasting her time. But she voluntarily chooses to talk. Why? I think deep down, it's been bugging her, and she told herself the material gain is worth it. She has nobody else to talk to this about, except other scammers. Discussing it with you is the most genuine talk she can have. So she gives you her origin story and brags with her wealth (and exaggerates). If she can get any form of understanding or jealousy from you, that's confirmation that the money is worth it. You did the right thing by responding unimpressed.
