Evil West reviewed by David Jagneaux on PC, also available on PlayStation and Xbox.
This refreshing blast from the past from the developer of Shadow Warrior 3 nails the most important parts of its old-school, vampire-hunting action. The combat is smooth and its weapon options are ludicrously entertaining, but low enemy variety and overly similar level layouts can grow somewhat monotonous after a while. This is far from the most complex or innovative action shooter, but every so often you just want to have some fun smashing in monster skulls.

Ever since having a kid, I’ve found linear games to be refreshing. Between work, family, and life, just having something you don’t have to think too hard about and can get through in a linear fashion is super refreshing.

Love the no-ammo feature. Looks proper old school and the perfect kind of 7/10 fun. A little sad there's no couch co-op but I'm looking forward to my pre-order arriving tomorrow!

Length is not the only factor, there are 4hr games that get repetitive and 30hr games that still manage to keep it fresh for most of the ride by slowly developing combat. Everytime something gets called repetitive people seem to take offense and play the "what about that?" game. Instead of comparing completely irrelevant examples its best to explain how something ISNT ehat they claim

If you think the game looks fun already and have not yet played the game then you don't need a review. If you were on the fence about whether you might have fun playing it then this review is a 7 which is basically a decent game just not stellar. Decide for yourself if you think decent is worth your money. End of the day, IGN isn't giving you a refund if you hate it, and they are not going to cheer you on if you love it.

Since when are linear games a bad thing? Games nowadays have gotten way too big, most of the time just for the sake of being big. Empty open worlds are too common, better to have a well crafted linear game than a half-assed big open world with nothing stand-out in them.

Really enjoyed this game - from the beginning to the end. Straightforward - motivating combat system - nice visuals. The game focuses on a few things and it does it great
