This little fellow has been seen in tons of nintendo games like super mario world 2 yoshi's island, super mario 64, super mario maker, mario party, paper mario, even the legend of zelda! But how did this enemy, this minion of bowser, change in terms of story, game design, gameplay and use? In what new ways did it assault mario, luigi, toad and peach? Well it's time to find out!

I read that shy guy's look has never changed as it is simple, and the only reason nintendo would change a character's look is if it were flawed. This means that Shy Guy has no flaws. They are perfect in every way.

Oh my god, I love Shy Guy. He is one of my favorite enemies in the series. I think that Shy Guy is so cute!!! I would also love to hug him. He is one of the characters in the series that I would love to hug. The other characters I would love to hug are 1. Koopa Troopa 2. Goomba 3. 4. Koopa Paratroopa 5. Bowser Jr. 6. Shy Guy 7. Dry Bones and 8. Hammer Bro.

You know, Shy Guys look surprisingly similar to the cyclops enemies in Devil World. Considering Yoshi's design was partially inspired by Tamagon from the same game, I wouldn't be surprised if that was an inspiration for the Shy Guys as well.

I think looking back on it Mario Bros 2 was a good thing. It really increased the variety in Mario and I think if the sequel to Mario bros had been the Japanese one which was almost the same game but harder it wouldn't have been as successful. It also vastly increased the amount of enemies and abilities in the games. If it hadn't happened Mario might have stuck much closer to it's roots and might have just been a one hit wonder.

I recall a shy guy appearing as a newscaster in a Donkey Kong game as well. I forget the name of the game at the moment, but it involved rescuing little Mario windup toys from DK.

I want to see Dry Guys. That fits so perfectly, they could act kinda like Dry Bones but they walk away from Mario harassing him with aimed bones instead of straight flying ones.

They also appeared in Super Mario RPG before the Paper Mario series. There were Shysters, Shyguys on pogo sticks, led by Mack, who briefly took over Mushroom Kingdom. Regular Shyguys appeared as normal enemies in Rose Way, and Shyguy grim reapers called Greapers appeared in the Sunken Ship. Then Shy Away, who served Valentina and even had several lines of dialogue.

Nintndeo made a protoptype with vertical scrolling and multiplayer but a fugi telvison offered to give them money if they made a game and since super mario bros 2 was to hard they switched it for doki doki panic

I know it would probably never happen, but I would absolutely LOVE it if Nintendo made a new Paper Mario game that's partner-based, like 64 or Thousand Year Door, and features a Shy Guy partner. I mean, we've seen Goombas, Koopas, Bob-ombs, a Boo, a Lakitu, and a Cheep-Cheep, so why not a Shy Guy? I would totally want them to be named "Shylo", by the way.

Once again, there was a cartridge/chip shortage at the time of SM2. Also, SMB3 and SMB2 was released very close together. And SMB, from what I remember was bundled with the NES.

my headcanon is that the shy guys were originally the mushroom kingdom's soldiers before mario came along and stole their collective jobs. that's why they have padded clothes and use cannons and stuff.

Doki Doki Panic was originally a Mario game. But Nintendo decided to do the Lost Levels and then combined Doki Doki Panic with its former concept.

I guess Dr Wily didn't do his research that would have told him that the real reason Super Mario Bros 2 didn't see as well as the first game was because of a chip shortage which made the game hard to find

Don't forget about the Shy Guy Ghosts from Luigi's Mansion. They're a ghost variation of the Shy Guy. They take two suction attacks from the Poltergust 3000 to defeat. First, Luigi has to suck their masks off, then he can suck them up
