This is a newer model saw that replaces the Rage 3 saw that I have been using and Evolution sent me one to try in my shop at no cost to me.
This video is about the simple assembly of the saw along with a comparison to the rage 3 that I have been using for some time now. It looks like a great space saving addition to my shop and we all will see how it stands up to my everyday use.

Nice tool review, my current saw is a 12” Dewalt I bought in 1998 and is starting to show it use and age. After watching this video I will give the saw serious consideration as I’d like a sliding saw option as well.

It's not a super precise woodworking saw if that is what you are looking for. The limited blade choice for this rpm saw put it in a special niche. It does a good job cutting many different materials at an affordable price point. My dewalt is about that old also and feeling its age like yours. We will see how it holds up to my use. Thanks for watching.

This is a very unique saw that has the ability to cut many different materials. It is not a super high precision saw for glass smooth cuts in wood, but ti does make fairly good accurate cuts in what it can cut. I think the capacity for the price is amazing. My dewalt saw worked good for years but now has wear that affects the accuracy and it just takes up too much space. Thanks for watching.

It's a nice saw for the money. I like my rage3 better because it's quieter and came with a better blade but this one is only half the price. It's a good multiple material cutting saw. No problems with it yet and it has seen quite a bit of use in my shop. Thanks for watching.

I actually have the Skilsaw metal cutting saw (not a slider). I want this saw mainly for wood cutting. At this point in my life, it will only get used occasionally, so the price tag vs amount of use is just right. I don't need a $500 slider at this point. Thanks again.

I'll use my Diablo 80 tooth fine cut blade for wood and save the Evolution blade for my Skilsaw, cold miter saw. Thanks to your good review, I just ordered the Evolution R255 sms+ today. Do you ever use Diablo blades? I come to find out, even though they are a little more expensive, there superior to other blades and last longer, especially the ones made with Cermet carbide.

I gave up on Freud blades after buying a premiere fusion that stunk. I now use Amana prestige blades that are amazing. Remember this saw only runs half the speed of a standard woodworking saw so you won't get an equivalent cut with a blade designed for higher rpms.

This is not a high precision woodworking saw if that is what you're looking for. It's a unique lower rpm saw that can handle multiple materials and does a good job with them. I saw that your saw sawed what other miter saws can't saw :p Good review! Time to get rid of my abrasive wheel saw and the portable 71/4" craftsman miter saw and make room for this guy. Although I have a metal cutting bandsaw and a plasma cutter this will be quicker for dimensional steel/alum pieces. Still keeping my 12" miter saw for crown and base boards.

This one is nice but the rage 3 is a quieter saw. This has a lot of gear noise at start up. I think the rage 3 came with a better blade also. I am going to order a wood cutting blade to try next and see if it helps when using the vacuum. They did some great upgrades on the clamp, fence, and laser switch. They are both great little saws with a large capacity cut and plenty of power. Thanks for watching.

1. Soft-Start feature❓ 2. Blade Arbor Cover coming loose problem❗ I just bought myself an early Christmas gift of this Evolution R255 SMS 120 VAC (Canada) from Continental, a nearby discount store, that sells all kinds of overstock items at good prices. When I came to test the saw I noticed that the blade hesitated when I pulled the start trigger and that it ran rather noisily. So I thought that I would have to use the store's 15-day "no questions asked" return policy. Not wanting to accept that I would have to return my new toy (sorry, essential tool), I checked 4 other R255 SMS review videos and this was the first one that mentioned the slow-start or soft-start feature of this saw... and also mentioned the noisy gear box. Maybe everybody else knew about this but I certainly did not. That means that my saw is OK and that I get to keep my Christmas self-gift after all... good stuff! Thanks for taking the time to mention these small observations. It can really make a difference to some viewers. ⚠ By the way and in the spirt of giving back, I have an observation and a work around to share. That triangular part that partially covers the blade (Blade Arbor Cover) has two hold-down bolts. The lower bolt turns all the way down and locks the cover down and in place while the upper bolt does no turn all the way down and does not lock the cover. Instead, this upper bolt is used to allow the cover to rotate up and out of the way to access the blade hold down bolt (Flange Bolt) when installing or removing the saw blade. Well, on my saw tightening that lower screw causes the cover to push out or cam out! I got very good results by using a simple flat washer that holds that cover down tightly with zero movement or push out. I hope that this information will prove useful to some viewers with similar symptoms. Many thanks and Seasons Greetings, Bill

Interesting saw. Never saw one that needed assembling. When I went to buy a 10" saw, a friend said get a 12", because there would be times I would need it. I bought the Hitachi C12RSH ($330 on sale with coupon at Lowes) and a DeWalt 742 lifting stand. Those two things together are a beast in size and weight. It's really nice, but a nice 12" blade is expensive. The DeWalt and Bosch Glide were on my list, but a bit pricey at $600. I should have given more thought to it, because a good 10" blade could have potentially been used on the saw and table saw.

When I bought the dewalt 12 inch was the only way to cut 4 x 6s . It is big, heavy and can survive construction crews. This saw is the exact opposite. It is light weight with a large capacity. This is not the best saw for precision woodworking but does a good job cutting most materials. Time will tell how it stands up. Hopefully it is as good as the Rage 3 at a lower price point. They broke it down so it fits in a manageable size box and made it very easy to assemble. I should soon have a video about the other saw they sent for a future project I had planned. They have done a great job creating unique affordable tools for homeowners. Not many companies would send me a tool and tell me we want your honest opinion with no restrictions. Thanks for watching.

Thanks for this video. Comprehensive, and the voiceover method works really well. Have been thinking of buying an evolution saw and the extra few pounds/euros/bucks seems worth it for the increased diametre of this one. I just wondered - the adverts claim 3+1/8in depth of cut and you cut a 6x4 - is that a prepared 6x4 that is actuially thinner than that, or does it really cut 4 inches? Cheers

I use it in my shop every day mostly for wood but also cut a lot of aluminum with it. I have the older rage3 in my metal shop and that is used for mild steel and still no problems. The older rage 3 blade has a higher tooth count and gives a cleaner cut on steel and plastic. They are not a high speed super precision specialized saw for wood but do a great job on all the materials they are rated to cut. Watch the evolution videos about how to cut for longest blade life. Thanks for watching.

Great review. Could you shed a little light on mounting the saw to the stand? The mounting holes on the saw have bolt shaped holes which makes it impossible to properly out in a carriage bolt. Did you leave that empty and just use a washer and wing nut instead? Thanks.

Hi, I just bought the evolution r210sms + (my first miter saw). But I have encountered a problem the blade has a slight play I think it is due to the hex bolt that secures the blade to the motor, the bolt has quite a bit of play compared to the thread of the motor block and even if I tighten it well the oscillation to still the blade remains, the cuts cmq are accurate at least on the wood. I was wondering if yours also had the same problem? Sorry for my English

Hello, I just bought the saw but when I read the manual it says that you shouldn't cut galvanized steel and I bought it for that purpose so it's disappointing so I contacted to the company and they explained me that the blade was made to occasionally cut steel, 20 % steel and 80 % wood. That if I want to cut steel, that they sell a proper blade for mild steel and thst to cut steel I should buy another clamp, so to use 2 not just one and that they sell it as well. I just don't understand why they don't say that in the box, not even in the instructions. What I did to cut wood, pine specifically, was to buy a normal wood blade and the results are just like a normal mitersaw I just flipped the disc because the evolution saws spin against a normal saw.
@unemployedredneckhillbilly2023

I have cut a lot of galvanized steel thin wall steel tubing with my Rage 3 and had no problems. The blade on this one was cheapened up with teeth being removed and it doesn't cut as good as the old rage 3 blade. I also bought a wood cutting blade for it because the multicut on this one leaves so many splinters. All the stacks of steel studs they show being cut in videos are galvanized so I wonder why they say you can't cut galvanized mild steel now. This clamp is much better then the rage 3 clamp but isn't perfect if you will just be cutting steel. If you're not happy return it if you can and buy one of the dedicated steel cutting saw. Thanks for watching.

I bought a 110 volt 255 mm evolution saw as we have to use 110 volt on site in Ireland . I am quite dissatisfied with the saw as the soft start delays for approximately 6 - 8 seconds . Also when I pull the trigger it hums for a few seconds .

That's one of the safety features I really like. Keeps the saw head from jumping like my old one at start up. I don't have humming. You may want to call them and see if yours has a problem. This one is still working good. Return it if you're not happy with it. Thanks for watching.

Very important it doesn't matter which machine. always buy a Slide Compound Mitre Saw with the handle in a line above the saw blade,everything has to be in line Slide bar rails,handle,and saw blade. it's better no tilt saw blade, and engine with softstart . Handle vertical or horizontal above saw blade is okay if it is in line above the saw blade and in line with slide bar.Everything has to be in line this is important like this video.

Is it still going ok? made in China? how secure is the blade/arbor lock button when you are fitting the blade, is there a detent it drops into to hold the blade for tightening?

Still works great. You push down and hold the blade lock. Not a precision woodworking saw but does a decent job on what it's made to cut. Thanks for watching.

Dewalt because it had a better blade and turns twice the rpm. This one is more versatile with almost the same cut capability at less then 1/2 the price. plus it takes up a lot less room. I like the rage 3 better. Thanks for watching

how does it do a angle accuracy? in both wood and steel profiles?
@unemployedredneckhillbilly2023

It does a decent job. I think the blade on this limits the accuracy. It's not a super precision high speed wood cutting saw but does a good job on everything it's rated to cut. for really good precision on steel look at the evosaw380. perfect miters every time with mine. Thanks for watching.

@@unemployedredneckhillbilly2023 Thanks, just looking for something versatile (low on space) that can do a decent cut without ~1-2 degree float. I think the R255 will be a perfect match, perhaps with dedicated blades for a better cutting

I noticed by the looks of it you had a 4 inch piece of timber you cut on it but mine (same model as this) won't cut it as will only cut up to 3 inch. What's the secret?

Mine cuts a standard 4 x 6 that is 3 5/8 thick. Check the stop for dados is fully backed off. Sure you don't have the smaller one. Thanks for watching.

@@unemployedredneckhillbilly2023 oh OK, I assumed you can't cut a 4 inch on it. How do you back it off as you say?

You can't cut 4 inches. a 4 x4 is only about 3 9/16 that's the max. Read the specs.

@@unemployedredneckhillbilly2023 so you saying I should be able to cut a 4 by 4 post? I have read the specs but in practice It doesn't physically cut it all the way through in one pass, so as I asked how do I make the right adjustments to do this?
