I've used (and worn out, see the link in the video) an Evolution Rage 3S 210 mitre saw so thought it was time to upgrade to it's new big Brother, the Evolution R255SMS-DB+ 255mm Double Bevel Sliding Mitre Saw. And why stop there? I've added a stand for it to go on! This video shows the unboxing and setting up of both items. Don't forget to check out the repair of the Rage 3S, link below.
**Update April 2022, I'm still very happy with the 255 with no issues so far. Fingers crossed! **

I bought the Evolution Fury 3 XL and I have abused it with chopping up tree wood and even telegraph poles! I've cut metal of many types and even boiler copper and aluminium heat exchangers. The blade is a beast and I've only just changed it after a few years and it's like new! These are a relatively cheap hero of a machine. The only thing that's getting a bit iffy is the electric break. Considering the hammer I've given it I doubt any Bosch or Makita could have done better. It's still an accurate cut too and I've jammed the blade loads by cutting wet tree wood! This is sacrilege abuse I know but it's worth every penny.

Hi Redwolf, my Rage S3 did really well until the armature spindle broke. At that point it got retired! I'm loving the R255 now though and it seems to take anything I throw at it. Hopefully it will do as well as the Rage.Thanks for the comments and of course for watching 👍🏽

Just bought the same, also with the stand. You are taking the saw, from the stand, off wrong. First lift up the backside and then you take off the saw complete from the stand. Doing so, you will be able to fasten the clamps more tighty to avoid sliding left or right on the stand. Good luck....

Hi Wesley. I actually did a video: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/iLChZ5yoqdmteWQ.html on how poor I thought my 210 was cutting but Evolution reached out and directed me to a video they produced about extending the life of a blade when cutting metal. The link to that is in my video linked above. I have been using their method and have been getting a good life from the blades, both 210 and 255. Actually I've done a video on how well my new 210 was performing here: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/mLKkbNOYkrabk30.html Thanks for the feed back 👍🏽

Thank you very much for the video and for explaining your impressions. It has been very helpful to me. I am considering buying the same saw and I am gathering information to make the decision. In general, do you think it is a good option compared to other models on the market? I think that the central motor, in addition to allowing the double bevel, is also very comfortable since you do not have the discomfort on the right side that often bothers to pick up the pieces or put some presses. In addition to coming with two cutting discs, so you can leave one for iron and rest and the other exclusively for wood. Thanks again.

Hi Oscar. I also own an Erbauer chop saw but compared to the Evolution it doesn't come close. As you may have seen I also own an Evolution Rage 3S and only after hundreds of hours have I needed to repair it. The 255 was an upgrade for me so now I can cut bigger pieces which will mainly be metal but having a dedicated wood blade for free was a bonus. The only issue I have had is the length of life of the blades when cutting steel but after talking to Evolution I am now cutting in a different manner (See the Rage3 video) I must say the steel I have cut on the 255 was excellent, very smooth indeed. TOP TIP> Don't forget to sign up with Evolution to gain EVO points. If you do and like them on Facebook etc you get enough points to get a 10% from them! Thats what I did.

Hi Farli. Overall size of the base only is approx 71cm wide and 38cm from back to front. When the saw blade unit is pulled forward from the base back to the front of the movable saw is 69cm and when pushed back it measures approx 70cm from the front of the saw base to the back of the movable saw not including the dust bag if fitted. I hope that helps. There may be sizes on the Evolution web site but I've not been able to check that today. 👍🏽

My new one has a 2 second delay when starting. Screwfix say it's normal for 1010 colt versions. Is that right or is th break blocking it? How to adjust?
@MikeMakesIt

Hi Ray. Mine has a slow start and an electronic brake. It’s all automatic so there is nothing to adjust. Occasionally mine will run on when I stop cutting so the brake doesn’t always cut in. It only does it more and again so I’m not too bothered. It’s my assumption it’s electronic, I could be wrong 😑

@@MikeMakesIt Thanks....I'm looking for a saw that will straight cut 3x3 wood posts, would I be OK with an 8" saw or am I going to need a 10"?
@MikeMakesIt
@MikeMakesIt 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Ang, as a rule of thumb if you halve the saw blade size then take a bit more off you would be in the ball park for it's cutting capacity. In my case the max cut for the 255mm blade is 90mm. On the Evolutions site they claim you can cut 4"x4" posts. Now in my book 4"=100mm so it's a little over the 90mm spec but I did manage to cut those 200x100mm log sleepers seen in this video: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/i8ldorSQxsuaZGQ.html I'd suggest you look up the spec on the machine in question. If it's an Evolution 255 then you would have no problem but if you go by rule of thumb you might be a bit close to the saw's limit. Best check the spec to be sure Ang. I'd always try to go for the next size up, ie. 10" as you never know what project you'll be doing next!

@@MikeMakesIt Hi Thanks for the reply and great advice. I was considering the Evolution 210sms+ as a cheaper smaller alternative which has an 81/4 inch blade. On your rule of thumb, half is 4" and I only need to cut a 3" piece, so I would have thought I was in with a chance. However the spec for the 210 says 65mm.. Sure I could get the 255, but 90% of the time I won't use it's capacity and the 210 apart from one or two cuts would do everything else. What do you think? thanks
@MikeMakesIt
@MikeMakesIt 3 жыл бұрын
The 210 is a very good saw and I've used mine for years. The only limiting factor of course is the cutting capacity. It's only since I've had the 255 do I realise the 210 limits. I think I have cut 3x3 with the 210 but had to turn the wood to complete the cut. Thats fine but the cut is not as smooth as a single stroke cut. None the less it still cuts a 3x3 with some work. Failing that you could always finish the cut with a hand saw. Thats what I have had to do with the 255 when cutting 200x100 sleepers.

Hi Mike can ta help? Every now and then i get a kick back. I dnt know why. Im constantly cleaning it dwn,i cant see anything obstructing the blade. I can do 20 cuts fine then all of a sudden few kick backs right towards end of a cut. Any advise would be appreciated
@MikeMakesIt
@MikeMakesIt 3 жыл бұрын
Hi. When I have had kick back both on my 210 and 255 it's where the work piece has moved. This could be if you are cutting maybe 2 or 3 pieces of wood together and they aren't sitting tight to one another or are warped. I get this when cutting up pallet pieces. They are mis-shapen and when one cuts through it moves and pinches the blade and kick back occurs. Or another thing I do is cut up the occasional tree branch. As they are never straight, when you cut through it moves and again pinches the blade. With metal I always clamp the piece down now as one time I guess I was being a bit lazy and not paying too much attention with the piece and it moved a tad and the blade picked it up. There really is a lot of power behind the blade, it won't take any prisoners. ***VERY IMPORTANT *** ***Make sure there is no GAP behind the work piece and the saw's up-stand back fence or base and it is sitting flat as if there is a gap the work piece could move into this gap as the blade cuts though the piece and you would get your kick back.*** I hope this helps, thanks for watching 👍🏽

@MikeMakesIt
@MikeMakesIt Жыл бұрын
I now occasionally get the problem you had and I found it was because the wood I was cutting has either a slight bow or warp to it so when the blade is nearly through, the wood can capture the blade causing it to jump.

Hi Trevor and thanks for the comments. I've just checked mine and both of the upper slider fences are indeed set back a little. This may cause some inaccuracies when cutting at an angle but I've not noticed any issues with the finished cuts so far but I will be double checking from now on!. It's easy done only have to send them the poorly made part's just undo 4 cap head Allen screws. Hi Trevor, thanks for the update. I hope Evolution aren't turning into box shifters! The machines cost enough money without having to chase the manufacturer when the units turn out to be badly made. I'll look at mine in more detail tomorrow and see if its the same as yours. Unfortunately what I've found is most companies (Amazon included) seem to only want to deal with the complete product being returned where as Evolution could have just sent out the bit thats at fault to you. No very good 😐

@@MikeMakesIt new update after sending Evolution the photo's of the bad machined part. They said technical looked at the photo's and agreed that it is poorly manufactured. He said he would rather me take it back to Screwfix, but honistly I don't like that idea. But he also said they can send me a new part, that's the road I'm going down. I just hope Evolution look into this problem, how many more units are coming out of China with the same shoddy workmanship. One reason I'm not keen on products from there. Same as my Metbo hammer drill only had it a short time the SDS drill got stuck had to take it apart, sent it of for repair all ok now. Metao made in Germany. Wrong made in China. Hi Lenny, well so far so good. I've mostly been cutting wood on it. I've only cut a few pieces of steel but that went well. I must say cutting through the oak sleepers (100x200mm) with the dedicated wood blade supplied with the saw was a breeze. You hardly noticed the wood was there and with a vac attached to the exhaust port this helped keep everything a bit cleaner. I have nothing to report thats bad at the mo and I'm loving the electronic brake. The blades stops in about 2 seconds. When cutting metal I had bad experiences when I had cut though the piece (on the 210) and moved the blade when it was still moving. I learnt to wait for the blade to stop. With lots of cuts this can amount to a lot of time. On the 255 the brake is a time saver. Thanks for watching and your comments.
